Laila doesn’t live on social media—Ned Nwoko chides Regina Daniels

0

Senator Ned Nwoko has spoken out in defense of his wife, Laila, amid renewed public scrutiny and social media conversations surrounding his failed marriage to Nollywood actress Regina Daniels.

In a lengthy statement shared on his X handle on Wednesday, Nwoko described Laila as a woman of “quiet strength” who prefers a private and peaceful life away from the noise of social media.

He noted that although unkind words and false assumptions have been circulated online about her, they do not reflect her true character.

“Laila is not someone who lives on social media. She has never been the type to chase attention or respond to every passing opinion,” he wrote. “She is thoughtful, patient, respectful, and incredibly caring. She gives without expecting anything in return.”

Nwoko added that his wife’s calm nature and maturity often go unnoticed because she does not publicly display her life or engage in online disputes. According to him, she has consistently chosen authenticity over public validation.

“It can be hard to watch unkind words or false assumptions being thrown around online… But I know her heart. I know the honesty she carries and the way she handles even difficult moments with calm dignity,” he stated.

The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to standing by her, saying he would speak for and protect her whenever necessary.

“As her husband, I will always stand by her. I will protect her name with pride,” he emphasized, describing Laila as a source of peace, stability, and wisdom in their home.

He also thanked those who had shown compassion and fairness amid the ongoing chatter, noting that their support “brings light into difficult spaces.”

Concluding his message, Nwoko expressed deep admiration for Laila: “You are valued, you are loved, and you are far greater than anything said about you online… I will always stand with you, today and every day.”

The statement comes as discussions around Nwoko’s family continue to trend on social media, especially regarding issues surrounding his failed marriage to Regina Daniels.

Nigerian music legend, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has spoken out for the first time since the ongoing controversy involving him and his wife, Edo State lawmaker Natasha Osawaru, began dominating social media.

In a brief post shared via his Instagram Story on Wednesday, the award-winning artiste wrote simply: “Help me.”

His statement came just hours after his brother, Hyacinth Idibia, expressed concern in an emotional Instagram message, referencing lyrics from one of 2Baba’s songs.

“You’ve always been ahead, always been brilliant. Lyrics meant to inspire, but somehow it’s unfolding in real time… painful reality. Allow us to save you. You’ve been suffering for too long. God knows,” Hyacinth wrote.

The latest development adds to weeks of public tension between 2Baba and Osawaru.

Trouble reportedly started in the United Kingdom, where the couple allegedly had a heated altercation that led to police intervention and the musician’s brief arrest.

The matter resurfaced during an Instagram Live session with broadcaster Daddy Freeze, during which the pair exchanged words on camera.

The series of incidents has intensified speculation about a deepening marital crisis, with many fans expressing concern for 2Baba’s emotional and mental well-being.

The newly nominated Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa had earlier this year, raised alarm over the activities of Jihadists, alleging that they are hell bent on taking over Nigeria.

Musa, who spoke during a live church service with Bishop David Abioye of the Conqueror Global Assembly said the country is in a serious security crisis.

He appealed to Nigerian Chriatians to continue to pray for the nation, ensuring that with God, peace will return to the country again.

He said, “We are going through challenges, it’s not only in Nigeria but I want to assure you that the Lord Almighty loves this country and will never let this country go down.

“We are facing unprecedented challenges by the Jihadists and they are hell bent on taking over but God will never allow them to succeed.

“We serve a living God that will never let us down. But as Christians, we need to pray consistently and ceaselessly to ensure that this country remains one and the same.

“This is a blessed country. Everybody in the world knows Nigeria is great and some who are not happy with Nigeria are still standing.

“In 2015 some people said Nigeria was going to pack up, this is 2025 and we are still standing”.

‘Undoubtedly racist’: Trump praises rich oil arab nations but slander black countries- Shehu Sani

0

Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has condemned United States President Donald Trump for what he described as racially offensive comments about Somalia.

Sani said it was “unconscionable” and “undoubtedly racist” for any world leader to refer to a “dignified people as ‘garbage’” or claim that their country “stinks.”

According to the former senator, Trump’s remarks about Somalia were even more derogatory than his previous comments directed at Nigeria and South Africa.

In a post on his X handle on Wednesday, Sani accused the U.S. president of openly praising oil-rich Arab Gulf nations while reserving slander for Black countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

He wrote:

“What Trump said about Somalia is actually worse than what he said about Nigeria and South Africa. How can a world leader call a dignified people ‘garbage’ and even say their country ‘stinks’? This is unconscionable and undoubtedly racist. Praises for oil-rich Arab Gulf states and slander for sub-Saharan Black countries is unacceptable.”

2Baba: Natasha summoned over clash with husband

0

The Edo State House of Assembly has summoned Egor constituency lawmaker, Natasha Osawaru, to appear before its Ethics and Privileges Committee following a series of viral videos showing her in heated exchanges with her husband, Nigerian music icon Innocent “2Baba” Idibia.

Osawaru was given one week to appear before the committee to address concerns about her conduct in the videos, which have stirred widespread public debate.

The controversy began during an Instagram Live session hosted by media personality Daddy Freeze. During the session, 2Baba’s former managers, Kaka Igbokwe and Lori Tosan, accused Osawaru of attempting to take “full control” of the singer’s finances and career. Their comments prompted 2Baba to abruptly join the livestream, warning them to stop discussing his personal life. Moments later, a heated off-camera exchange between the couple was overheard.

Another clip that has circulated widely appears to show Osawaru shouting at 2Baba inside a London store, further fueling the discussion online.

At Tuesday’s plenary, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku condemned the lawmaker’s behavior, stating that her actions had “dragged the name of the House into the mud” and caused the assembly to trend negatively on social media.

“This is a very decent house with responsible and intelligent members,” Agbebaku said. “The conduct of a member cannot bring the assembly into disrepute. We frown at this and we will not take it.”

The Ethics and Privileges Committee is expected to present its findings to the House within two weeks.

Nigerian Newssphere reports that 2Face was arrested in UK after clash with wife Natasha in London.

Trump bans Immigration Applications from 19 Countries

0

United States President Donald Trump has ordered an immediate freeze on all immigration applications from 19 countries, a move that also halts citizenship ceremonies nationwide.

According to The New York Times, the suspension could impact more than 1.5 million people with pending asylum applications and over 50,000 individuals who were granted asylum under the Biden administration.

The administration is also weighing an expansion of the travel ban to include more than 30 countries.

The new policy directive, released Tuesday night, cites last week’s “terror attack” in Washington, D.C., as a key factor. The incident involved the arrest of Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who is accused of killing a National Guard member and injuring another.

Under the order, full entry bans will apply to citizens of Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

Restricted access measures will apply to individuals from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.

“The Trump administration is making every effort to ensure individuals becoming citizens are the best of the best. Citizenship is a privilege, not a right,” said Matthew Tragesser, spokesperson for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

“We will take no chances when the future of our nation is at stake,” he added.

Nigerians demand Matawalle’s removal as old video of him defending bandits, terrorists resurfaces

0

A growing number of Nigerians are calling for the resignation of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, following the circulation of an old video in which he defended some bandits in Zamfara State.

The Channels TV clip, recorded in 2021 when Matawalle was governor of Zamfara, shows him explaining that “not all” bandits were criminals. He made the remarks at the State House, Abuja, after a meeting with then-President Muhammadu Buhari.

Responding to reporters’ questions on banditry in Zamfara, Matawalle suggested that some of the attackers were reacting to injustices allegedly carried out by local vigilante groups.

“Not all of them are criminals,” he said. “If you investigate what is happening… sometimes they were cheated by the vigilante group. They go to their settlements, destroy property and take their animals. They didn’t have anyone to speak with, so they go for revenge. When the vigilante group attacks them, they go for reprisals.”

The resurfaced video began circulating shortly after the resignation of Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru, heightening public scrutiny on the Defence Ministry.

Nigerians on X (formerly Twitter) have since expressed outrage, with many demanding Matawalle’s removal. Some reactions compiled by Nigerian Newssphere include:

@A6udawud: “Matawalle always approaches bandits with negotiation rather than fighting them… Tinubu should take out Matawalle who turns the Defence Ministry into a campaign hub.”

@tkayose: “No wonder the APC Tinubu government keeps using bandits in place of terrorists. Why hasn’t Matawalle and Gumi been arrested?”

@engr_shaibu_: “Matawalle said bandits aren’t criminals… Now he’s Minister of Defence. This empty head and terrorist sympathizer is now writing our security policy. He needs to be sacked immediately!”

@RealQueenBee__: “You knew who he was and still gave him the job. I blame you, not him.”

This comes after Abubakar Badaru recently resigned and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu nominated former Chief of Defence Staff, Musa Christopher as Nigerian Defence Minister.

FIFA set to introduce major VAR change for 2026 World Cup

0

FIFA is planning to implement a significant change to Video Assistant Referee (VAR) protocol at the 2026 World Cup, despite initial resistance from football stakeholders.

The global football body is moving forward with plans to expand VAR’s scope to include reviews on corner-kick decisions during next year’s tournament.

In October, the International Football Association Board (IFAB) met and agreed to widen VAR’s remit to cover incidents such as wrongly issued yellow cards that may warrant upgrades. However, the proposal to allow VAR to review corner-kick situations was rejected at the time.

According to BBC Sport, FIFA has decided to proceed regardless and will push ahead with the corner-kick review system for the World Cup, even though domestic leagues have declined to adopt it for their competitions.

Nnamdi Kanu has become ‘Celebrity’ in Sokoto Prison- Sowore

Nnamdi Kanu

Activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has claimed that detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has become a “celebrity” at the Sokoto Custodial Centre.

Sowore made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday. He insisted that the Federal Government would eventually realise that sentencing Kanu to life imprisonment was a grave error.

According to him, the judge who delivered the sentence, Justice James Omotosho, would one day “beg” Kanu for what he described as a monumental mistake.

“Nnamdi Kanu is already a celebrity in prison. They said he has become the president of the prison, but I doubt it—it must have been conferred on him out of respect,” Sowore said.

He argued that transferring Kanu to the Sokoto facility had backfired on the authorities: “When they were taking him to Sokoto, they thought they would ridicule him, but when they got there, he turned Sokoto into another Mecca.”

Sowore also alleged that those previously mobilised to protest Kanu’s conviction were now trooping to Sokoto to visit him. He said he was seeking permission from Kanu’s family to coordinate visits.

“They don’t have people who can reason in government. Look at where we are—you jailed Kanu, and he’s now a celebrity in prison,” he added.

Nigerian Newssphere reports that Nnamdi Kanu was sentenced to live imprisonment by Justice Jame Omotosho over terrorism related offences.

Recently Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti paid him a visit.

Pope Leo XIV  ignores Nigeria, lists African countries to visit

0

Pope Leo XIV has revealed plans for a potential 2026 visit to Africa, naming Algeria as a key destination on a tour that could mark his next major international trip.

The pontiff disclosed this on Tuesday during a press conference aboard the papal plane as he returned from a six-day visit to Turkey and Lebanon—his first overseas journey since assuming office in May.

“I hope to make a trip to Africa, which could be my next trip. Personally, I hope to go to Algeria to visit the places from the life of Saint Augustine,” he said.

The Vatican later confirmed that the prospective itinerary may also include stops in Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea.

However, Nigeria is not listed as part of the countries that Pope Leo would visit.

Pope Leo, who leads the world’s 1.4 billion Catholics, also expressed a strong desire to visit Latin America, including Argentina, Uruguay and Peru, where he spent more than two decades as a missionary.

A member of the Augustinian order—which traces its roots to the 13th century and has nearly 3,000 members in about 50 countries—the pope said a visit to Algeria would support ongoing efforts to strengthen dialogue between Christians and Muslims.

“The figure of Saint Augustine plays an important role as a bridge because in Algeria he is highly respected as a son of the nation,” the 70-year-old pontiff noted.
