Former Secretary to the Benue State Government (SSG), Prof. David Salifu, has died after reportedly sustaining gunshot injuries during an attack by suspected kidnappers.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Thursday in Wukari, Taraba State, while Prof. Salifu was travelling to Makurdi.
The former SSG was said to have escaped from the attackers but sustained gunshot wounds during the incident.
He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Makurdi for treatment but was later confirmed dead on Thursday night.
Details surrounding the attack remain sketchy as of the time of filing this report, while security authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command for confirmation were unsuccessful, as calls placed to her phone were not answered.
