Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly open to returning to management as speculation grows over the future of Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann following the country’s disappointing 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
Nagelsmann is facing an uncertain future after Germany’s exit from the tournament, with reports indicating that the German Football Federation (DFB) is considering a change in leadership.
Germany’s elimination came after a penalty shootout defeat to Paraguay, marking the four-time world champions’ third consecutive early exit from the FIFA World Cup, following group-stage eliminations in Russia in 2018 and Qatar in 2022.
Klopp, who currently serves as Sporting Director at Red Bull, has not managed a team since leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2023/24 season. However, the 59-year-old is said to be interested in taking charge of the German national team if the opportunity arises.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano shared an update on X, writing: “Jürgen Klopp would be open to considering return to management if German Federation decide to call him.
“Nagelsmann wants to stay but final decision in DFB hands, Klopp would be open to listening and keen on project.”
While Nagelsmann is reportedly eager to remain in charge, the final decision rests with the DFB as it evaluates Germany’s disappointing World Cup performance.
