Police annouces new resumption date for Tinted Glass Permit enforcement nationwide

0

After suspension, the Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to resume the enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy nationwide from January 2, 2026.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, explaining that the move is aimed at addressing growing security concerns across the country.

Hundeyin said intelligence reports revealed that some individuals and criminal groups have been exploiting the suspension of the policy to carry out crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent activities.

He clarified that the enforcement was not halted by any court order, stressing that no court restrained the police from implementing the law on tinted glass usage. According to him, the suspension was a voluntary decision by the Force to give motorists sufficient time to regularize their permits.

“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to inform the general public of the planned resumption of the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy pending the final determination of the matter currently before the court,” the statement said.

“This decision follows a careful review of emerging security concerns and the need to ensure the safety of all citizens.”

The police added that enforcement must resume in view of prevailing security challenges while the legal process continues, urging motorists to comply with the regulations to avoid sanctions.

Nigerian Newssphere recalls that the Police suspended the tinted glass permit enforcement in Octobef 2025 amid outrage.

2027 election: Why Tinubu will be defeated—Nigerian Senator, Abaribe

0

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who represents Abia South, has explained why President Bola Tinubu will lose the 2027 presidential election.

Abaribe made the assertion on Monday during an appearance on Politics Today, a current affairs program on Channels Television.

According to the lawmaker, public sentiment across the country is not in favor of the president, insisting that the outcome of the 2027 election would reflect the will of Nigerians.

“Everybody loses elections at some point, and Tinubu will lose the 2027 election because I know how Nigerians are feeling outside,” Abaribe said.

He further claimed that President Tinubu did not genuinely win the 2023 presidential election, although he acknowledged his position as the country’s leader.

“Tinubu never won the 2023 election; everybody knows that. He was declared the winner, and we accepted him as president,” he stated.

Abaribe added that the opposition would be better prepared ahead of the next polls, warning that what he described as past irregularities would not recur.

“We will meet him on the field, and he won’t be able to put together what will make him win again. This time, everyone will be ready. There won’t be any late-night announcements. The masses are more prepared now,” he said.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has ordered the immediate prosecution of popular Nigerian TikToker, Peller, following a recent car crash involving him.

According to reports, the social media personality was allegedly involved in a deliberate road accident on Sunday afternoon, shortly after his breakup with his girlfriend and fellow content creator, Jarvis.

A video of the incident, which later circulated widely on social media, sparked outrage among Nigerians, with many condemning the act and urging authorities to revoke his driver’s licence.

Reacting to the incident on Monday, the FRSC, in a statement shared on its official X handle, directed its Lagos State Command to commence legal action against the TikTok star.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Muhammed, expressed concern over the increasing misuse of public roads by entertainers and content creators, warning that such actions pose serious risks to lives and property.

He also called on entertainment industry stakeholders, including the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), content creators, and other associations, to rein in their members and discourage dangerous behaviour on the roads.

Muhammed specifically instructed the Lagos Command to prosecute Peller for reckless driving, use of a mobile phone while driving, and distracted driving, in line with existing traffic laws.

The FRSC further cautioned that fame does not place anyone above the law and cannot be used as a justification for unsafe conduct on public roads.

Nigerian Newssphere reports that Peller involved in a car crash after his Girlfriend Jarvis brokeup with him.

Malami Accuses EFCC chair of bias, demands withdrawal from probe

0

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has called on the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukayode, to step aside from an ongoing investigation involving him.

Malami accused the EFCC boss of bias, personal vendetta and political persecution, which he linked to his recent defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement issued on Monday by his media aide, Muhammad Doka, the former AGF alleged that the EFCC was engaging in illegal detention, media harassment and abuse of due process in the handling of the probe.

He maintained that the investigation was not motivated by genuine law enforcement concerns but by what he described as long-standing animosity within the leadership of the anti-graft agency.

“I have been clearly pre-judged and cannot receive a fair, objective or lawful investigation under the current leadership of the EFCC,” Malami said.

The Igbo Community Association in Abuja has outlined the reasons behind its endorsement of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Obinna Simon, popularly known as MC Tagwaye, ahead of the February 2026 Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election.

The association’s President-General, Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, disclosed this during a press conference on Monday in Abuja, where he described Simon as the most qualified contender for the position.

Ellis-Ezenekwe said the endorsement followed a comprehensive review of the manifestos and policy proposals of all candidates contesting the poll, including the incumbent AMAC chairman, Zaka Maikalangu, who is seeking re-election.

According to him, Simon’s vision, competence and deep understanding of governance issues distinguished him from other aspirants. He noted that the SDP candidate demonstrated a clear grasp of the challenges facing AMAC and presented practical solutions to address them.

“After a thorough assessment of the campaign manifestos and policy directions of the candidates, we found that Obinna Simon’s vision and expertise best align with the needs of the diverse communities in the Federal Capital Territory,” Ellis-Ezenekwe said.

He added that Simon’s pledge to reduce multiple taxation within AMAC was particularly appealing to residents and small business owners.

The Igbo leader further commended Simon’s commitment to community development, social welfare and economic empowerment, stressing that his integrity and credibility were beyond question.

Ellis-Ezenekwe concluded by affirming that the Igbo Community in Abuja had resolved to support and vote for the SDP candidate, while calling on other AMAC residents to rally behind Simon’s candidacy.

Nigeria’s headline inflation rate eased to 14.45 per cent in November, down from 16.05 per cent recorded in October, according to the latest Consumer Price Index and Inflation report released on Monday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The data showed that inflation declined further by 1.22 per cent in November, compared to the 0.29 per cent drop recorded in the previous month, signalling a continued moderation in overall price pressures.

However, food prices continued to rise. The NBS reported that the food inflation rate stood at 1.13 per cent in November, representing an increase of 1.5 per cent compared to October, when food inflation was negative at -0.37 per cent.

The statistics agency attributed the uptick in food inflation to higher average prices of key items, including dried tomatoes, cassava tubers, shelled periwinkle, ground pepper, eggs, crayfish, unshelled melon (egusi), oxtail and fresh onions.“On a month-on-month basis, the headline inflation rate in November 2025 was 1.22 per cent, which was 0.29 per cent higher than the rate recorded in October 2025 (0.93 per cent),” the NBS said.

It added that “on a month-on-month basis, the food inflation rate in November 2025 was 1.13 per cent, up by 1.5 per cent compared to October 2025 (-0.37 per cent).”

The latest figures align with projections by Financial Derivatives Company Limited, which had earlier forecast a further decline in Nigeria’s inflation rate in November.

$5m school fees could build modular refinery — Olubiyo reacts to Dangote’s claims against NMDPRA boss

0

An energy expert and President of the Nigeria Consumer Protection Network, Kunle Olubiyo, has weighed in on the renewed dispute between Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Refinery, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed.

Nigerian Newssphere recalls that Dangote, during a media briefing in Lagos on Sunday, alleged that Ahmed paid about $5 million—estimated at over N7 billion—as secondary school fees for his four children in Switzerland. Dangote, however, did not provide further details to support the claim.

The billionaire industrialist also accused the NMDPRA boss of economic sabotage, alleging that regulatory actions were being used to encourage fuel importers to undermine his refinery operations.

Reacting to the allegations on Monday, Olubiyo described the reported sum as enormous, stating that such an amount could comfortably be used to establish a modular refinery in Nigeria.

“That is humongous. That amount can conveniently establish a functional modular refinery in Nigeria,” Olubiyo said.

He further urged relevant anti-corruption agencies to thoroughly investigate the allegations made by Dangote against Ahmed in the interest of transparency and accountability.

As of the time of filing this report, Ahmed, who oversees the regulation of Dangote Refinery and Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector, has not officially responded to the accusations.

The latest exchange follows an earlier public disagreement between Dangote and Ahmed over claims that the $20 billion Dangote Refinery produces petrol with high sulphur content.

I’m single, open to ’love’—Shallipopi confirms break-up with girlfriend

0

Nigerian singer Crown Uzama, popularly known as Shallipopi, has confirmed that he has ended his relationship with his British-Ghanaian girlfriend, Lilani Lowe.

The Oba Pluto crooner disclosed the breakup during a recent interview with popular streamer Carter Efe, where he stated that he is no longer in a relationship.

According to the singer, he is currently single and open to starting a new romance. “I’ve broken up with my girlfriend, so I’m single now and ready to mingle,” he said.

Shallipopi and Lilani Lowe first sparked dating rumors in 2024 after sharing cozy photos together on social media. However, both parties neither confirmed nor denied the relationship at the time, leaving fans speculating about their status.

The singer’s recent comments have now put an end to the speculation, confirming that the relationship has come to an end.

It’s untrue- Dangote  opens up on Trump’s displeasure over his $20bn refinery

0

President of Dangote Refinery, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has dismissed reports suggesting that United States President Donald Trump is unhappy with the establishment of the $20 billion Dangote Refinery.

Dangote was reacting to claims circulating on social media that Trump’s recent threats to take action against certain locations in Nigeria were linked to the operation of Africa’s largest refinery. The speculation followed comments by Trump warning of possible strikes against terrorists responsible for killing Christians in parts of Nigeria, which triggered widespread online reactions and propaganda.

Speaking to journalists, Dangote described the claims as unfounded, stressing that the United States remains one of the refinery’s major crude oil suppliers.

“The US has been one of our major suppliers of crude. So when people say President Trump is not happy with our refinery, that is simply not true,” Dangote said.

He added that the refinery consistently purchases crude from the US, noting that, on average, it buys up to 100 million barrels annually, a relationship he said reflects positive engagement rather than hostility.

Meanwhile, Dangote reiterated that Nigerians now have the option of purchasing high-quality, locally refined petrol at a more affordable price or opting for blended imported fuel sold at higher rates.

According to him, the increased availability of locally refined petrol has given consumers a clear choice, while fuel importers may continue to record losses as Nigerians benefit from cheaper and better-quality products.

He emphasized that the Dangote Refinery’s operations are aimed at improving fuel quality, reducing costs, and strengthening Nigeria’s energy security.

Nigerian Newsphere reports that Dangote slashed out the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Farouk Ahmed, in his latest briefing.
