It’s untrue- Dangote  opens up on Trump’s displeasure over his $20bn refinery

President of Dangote Refinery, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has dismissed reports suggesting that United States President Donald Trump is unhappy with the establishment of the $20 billion Dangote Refinery.

Dangote was reacting to claims circulating on social media that Trump’s recent threats to take action against certain locations in Nigeria were linked to the operation of Africa’s largest refinery. The speculation followed comments by Trump warning of possible strikes against terrorists responsible for killing Christians in parts of Nigeria, which triggered widespread online reactions and propaganda.

Speaking to journalists, Dangote described the claims as unfounded, stressing that the United States remains one of the refinery’s major crude oil suppliers.

“The US has been one of our major suppliers of crude. So when people say President Trump is not happy with our refinery, that is simply not true,” Dangote said.

He added that the refinery consistently purchases crude from the US, noting that, on average, it buys up to 100 million barrels annually, a relationship he said reflects positive engagement rather than hostility.

Meanwhile, Dangote reiterated that Nigerians now have the option of purchasing high-quality, locally refined petrol at a more affordable price or opting for blended imported fuel sold at higher rates.

According to him, the increased availability of locally refined petrol has given consumers a clear choice, while fuel importers may continue to record losses as Nigerians benefit from cheaper and better-quality products.

He emphasized that the Dangote Refinery’s operations are aimed at improving fuel quality, reducing costs, and strengthening Nigeria’s energy security.

Nigerian Newsphere reports that Dangote slashed out the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Farouk Ahmed, in his latest briefing.
