Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has called on the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukayode, to step aside from an ongoing investigation involving him.
Malami accused the EFCC boss of bias, personal vendetta and political persecution, which he linked to his recent defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement issued on Monday by his media aide, Muhammad Doka, the former AGF alleged that the EFCC was engaging in illegal detention, media harassment and abuse of due process in the handling of the probe.
He maintained that the investigation was not motivated by genuine law enforcement concerns but by what he described as long-standing animosity within the leadership of the anti-graft agency.
“I have been clearly pre-judged and cannot receive a fair, objective or lawful investigation under the current leadership of the EFCC,” Malami said.
