AMAC Poll: Why Igbo Community endorsed SDP’s MC Tagwaye against Wike’s candidate

The Igbo Community Association in Abuja has outlined the reasons behind its endorsement of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Obinna Simon, popularly known as MC Tagwaye, ahead of the February 2026 Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election.

The association’s President-General, Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, disclosed this during a press conference on Monday in Abuja, where he described Simon as the most qualified contender for the position.

Ellis-Ezenekwe said the endorsement followed a comprehensive review of the manifestos and policy proposals of all candidates contesting the poll, including the incumbent AMAC chairman, Zaka Maikalangu, who is seeking re-election.

According to him, Simon’s vision, competence and deep understanding of governance issues distinguished him from other aspirants. He noted that the SDP candidate demonstrated a clear grasp of the challenges facing AMAC and presented practical solutions to address them.

“After a thorough assessment of the campaign manifestos and policy directions of the candidates, we found that Obinna Simon’s vision and expertise best align with the needs of the diverse communities in the Federal Capital Territory,” Ellis-Ezenekwe said.

He added that Simon’s pledge to reduce multiple taxation within AMAC was particularly appealing to residents and small business owners.

The Igbo leader further commended Simon’s commitment to community development, social welfare and economic empowerment, stressing that his integrity and credibility were beyond question.

Ellis-Ezenekwe concluded by affirming that the Igbo Community in Abuja had resolved to support and vote for the SDP candidate, while calling on other AMAC residents to rally behind Simon’s candidacy.
