After suspension, the Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to resume the enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy nationwide from January 2, 2026.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, explaining that the move is aimed at addressing growing security concerns across the country.
Hundeyin said intelligence reports revealed that some individuals and criminal groups have been exploiting the suspension of the policy to carry out crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent activities.
He clarified that the enforcement was not halted by any court order, stressing that no court restrained the police from implementing the law on tinted glass usage. According to him, the suspension was a voluntary decision by the Force to give motorists sufficient time to regularize their permits.
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to inform the general public of the planned resumption of the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy pending the final determination of the matter currently before the court,” the statement said.
“This decision follows a careful review of emerging security concerns and the need to ensure the safety of all citizens.”
The police added that enforcement must resume in view of prevailing security challenges while the legal process continues, urging motorists to comply with the regulations to avoid sanctions.
