Ambassadorial list: Tension as APC Senator Ndume asks Tinubu to withdraw nominees

0

Fresh tension is brewing ahead of the Senate’s screening of over 64 ambassadorial nominees submitted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, has demanded the immediate withdrawal of the list.

Ndume, who issued a statement on Saturday, insisted that the composition of the nominees violates the Federal Character principle as mandated by the Nigerian Constitution.

According to him, several states were either underrepresented or completely excluded, while some states had multiple nominees.

The Senate President had earlier read the list during plenary and referred it to the Committee on Foreign Affairs for legislative scrutiny.

Citing Section 14(3) of the 1999 Constitution, Ndume stressed that all federal appointments must reflect Nigeria’s diversity to promote national unity and prevent dominance by a few states or ethnic groups. He warned that disregarding this constitutional requirement could heighten ethnic tension and further erode public trust.

“My sincere appeal to President Tinubu is to withdraw this list,” Ndume said. “At this critical time, he should avoid decisions that could endanger national unity. I know him as a cosmopolitan leader who values every segment of the country. He should present a fresh list that aligns with the Federal Character Principle.”

President Tinubu had earlier nominated several high-profile figures, including former aides to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, a former Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman, ex-Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, among others.

On Thursday, the President also transmitted an additional list featuring the immediate past Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, and several other nominees.

Ndume’s objection has set the stage for what could become a heated debate as the Senate prepares for the screening exercise.

CAC annouces nationwide crackdown on unregistered POS operators in Nigeria

0

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced a nationwide enforcement exercise that will see all unregistered Point of Sale (POS) operators shut down beginning January 1, 2026.

In a statement issued on Friday and signed by the CAC Management, the commission warned that security agencies have been directed to seize unregistered POS terminals and close any outlet operating without proper documentation.

According to the CAC, the surge in unregistered POS businesses contravenes provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020 and the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Agent Banking Regulations.

“The Commission has observed the rising number of POS operators running without registration, violating CAMA 2020 and CBN Agent Banking Regulations,” the statement said. “This reckless practice—often enabled by some fintech companies—puts Nigeria’s financial system and citizens’ investments at risk. This must stop.”

The CAC outlined the following directives effective January 1, 2026:

No POS operator will be allowed to operate without CAC registration.

Security agencies will enforce nationwide compliance; Unregistered POS terminals will be seized and shut down; Fintechs enabling unregistered operators will be placed on a watchlist and reported to the CBN.

The commission urged all operators to ensure immediate compliance, stressing that registration is mandatory.

I’ll spill alot of truth- 2Baba breaks silence on crisis with wife, Natasha

0

Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has accused some family members and associates of running a dangerous smear campaign aimed at damaging his reputation and personal relationships.

In a video shared online, the award-winning singer said he could no longer stay silent as the situation had escalated far beyond normal family disagreements.

“I’m okay. I’m perfectly normal. Please stop painting me as mentally unstable,” he said.

2Baba alleged that the same interference that strained his marriage to actress Annie Idibia is now being targeted at his current partner, Natasha, who he claimed has been receiving death threats.

“My family destroyed my marriage with Annie. Now they are after Natasha,” he alleged.

“Natasha is getting death threats right now. This has gotten dangerously out of hand.”

He expressed frustration that those claiming to act in his best interest were instead putting him and Natasha at risk.

“You say you’re trying to save me, but you’re killing me. You’re killing us,” he lamented, stressing that he has the right to choose who he wants to be with.

The singer also dismissed claims about his mental health, pointing out that he recently performed in Abuja and has been seen publicly by fans.

“Everybody has been seeing me out there. Anybody that has eyes knows I’m okay,” he said.

Condemning what he described as false narratives being circulated about him, 2Baba said the situation had reached an unbearable level.

“What my family is doing—fabricating so many lies—has become so dangerous. It’s not funny anymore. I’m totally devastated,” he said.

He appealed for an end to the alleged attacks and pleaded for privacy.

“Please, just stay out of my private and personal life. Just let us be,” he said.

2Baba added that he will be sharing more details soon, stating that he has endured enough.

“I’m not going to be quiet anymore. In the next couple of days, I’m going to speak a whole lot of truth,” he vowed.

‘Dem dey ground’-Wizkid mocks Davido as ‘Morayo’ becomes most streamed African Album of 2025

0

Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has thrown a subtle jab at fellow singer Davido after his album Morayo topped Apple Music’s list of most-streamed albums of 2025 in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Morayo clinched the No. 1 spot ahead of Davido’s 5ive, which ranked second.

Before releasing 5ive, Davido had boasted that his project would outshine every album released around the same period — a comment widely seen as a dig at Wizkid, who also dropped an album at the time. “Album go swallow album,” Davido had teased.

But with Morayo leading the charts, Wizkid appeared to fire back. In a recent tweet, he wrote:

“Dem say album go swallow album, dem dey ground dey smell now! 😂😂”

The post has been widely interpreted as a direct swipe at Davido, sparking fresh reactions from fans who fear it might reignite the long-running rivalry between both camps.

Every Igbo Person is a Biafran- Kcee

0

Nigerian singer Kingsley Okonkwo, better known as Kcee, has described himself as a “Biafran,” stressing that the term represents an ethnographical identity rather than a separatist movement.

Speaking during an interview on Yanga 89.9 FM, Lagos, Kcee said the word Biafra historically refers to the Igbo people, just as Arewa and Oduduwa describe northern and Yoruba identities.

“As far as I am concerned, every Igbo man under the sun today is a Biafran. I am a Biafran. I am an Igbo man and Biafra is where we are from. It is just like the Arewas and Oduduwas,” he said.

He explained that the name Biafra was adopted in 1967 after being suggested by Frank Opigo from Bayelsa. “Before 1967, who were we? Igbos. Being Igbo means you are still a Biafran,” Kcee added.
