United, however, stepped up the tempo after the restart and broke the deadlock in the 65th minute through B. Mbeumo. The Red Devils sealed the win 11 minutes later when P. Dorgu found the back of the net, ensuring maximum points for Carrick’s side in the derby encounter.

Seun Kuti, Peter Okoye end feud after two-year

0

Nigerian music stars Seun Kuti and Peter Okoye, also known as Mr P of the former P-Square, have officially resolved their public feud.

The dispute dates back to the 2023 general elections when the two artistes clashed over the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi. The tension began after Seun Kuti labeled Obi an “opportunist,” prompting Peter Okoye to question Kuti’s relevance and success in the music industry. The disagreement quickly spiraled into a heated social media confrontation.

The former rivals were recently spotted putting their differences aside at a Lagos nightclub, where they shared a warm embrace. In a video from the meet-up, Seun Kuti tells Okoye, “We are artistes, we can’t be fighting over politicians,” a sentiment Mr P echoed as they shook hands, signaling the end of their feud.

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has opened up about his preference when it comes to choosing a partner.

Speaking in a recent interview with People Gallery, the 25-year-old singer said he would rather be with a stylish and fashionable woman than a wealthy one.

The Calm Down hitmaker explained that since he already has financial stability, a woman’s sense of style is more important to him than her money.

When asked by the interviewer, “Would you rather have a girl with style or funds?” Rema responded simply: “I already got the funds, so style.”

AFCON 2025 sets new highest goal-scoring record

0

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco has set a new benchmark in the tournament’s history, emerging as the highest-scoring AFCON ever with 120 goals recorded so far.

The record was achieved ahead of the third-place playoff between Nigeria and Egypt, as well as the final showdown featuring hosts Morocco and Senegal.

The latest tally eclipses the previous high of 119 goals set at the last AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire. Prior to that, the 2019 edition in Egypt produced 102 goals, following the tournament’s expansion from 16 to 24 teams.

Several of Africa’s leading stars have played key roles in the goal-fest at the 2025 finals. Morocco’s Brahim Díaz currently tops the scoring chart with five goals.

He is closely trailed by Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, who have both found the net four times to contribute significantly to the historic scoring run.

Manchester Derby: Carrick faces test as Man United hosts Man City in blockbuster Old Trafford clash

All eyes will be on Old Trafford on Saturday as Manchester United welcomes rivals Manchester City in what promises to be the standout Premier League fixture of the weekend.

The much-anticipated Manchester derby is scheduled for 1:30 pm Nigerian time, with both sides looking to make a strong statement at a crucial stage of the season.

City heads into the contest sitting second on the Premier League table after 21 matches, while United occupies seventh place with 32 points from the same number of games.

Pep Guardiola’s side are coming off a 1-1 draw against Brighton in their last league outing. United also shared the spoils in their previous fixture, playing out a 2-2 draw with Burnley.

Recalls that the last meeting between the two sides took place in September at the Etihad Stadium, where City claimed a dominant 3-0 victory. Erling Haaland scored twice, with Phil Foden also getting on the scoresheet.

That defeat came during Ruben Amorim’s spell as United manager. Amorim has since departed, with former midfielder Michael Carrick now serving as interim coach. Carrick faces a major test as he seeks to avoid a repeat of that heavy loss in his first derby against City.

Bayern will be without center-back Matthijs de Ligt due to injury, while Noussair Mazraoui remains unavailable as he continues international duty with Morocco at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

City, meanwhile, are chasing a league double over their neighbors as they continue their title pursuit, with Arsenal still firmly in the race. Guardiola, however, will be without Oscar Bobb and John Stones, who are both sidelined.

Saturday’s showdown is expected to play a key role in shaping the momentum for both clubs as the season progresses.

Fubara impeachment: Rivers Assembly members collected N350m each for constituency project – Aide

0

Darlington Orji, Special Adviser to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has alleged that members of the Rivers State House of Assembly received N350 million each for constituency projects, despite complaints by some lawmakers that certain payments made to them were not captured in the budget.

Orji made the claim on Friday while speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, amid rising tensions between the executive and the legislature over the impeachment moves against Governor Fubara and disagreements surrounding the budget process.

According to the governor’s aide, the N350 million payments were disbursed during the tenure of the former Sole Administrator of the state, Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, after the signing of the Appropriation Act.

He also addressed the controversy surrounding a N100,000 payment made in December to civil servants as an end-of-year appreciation, which was reportedly extended to members of the House of Assembly. Orji said some lawmakers rejected the money on the grounds that it was not appropriated.

Questioning the lawmakers’ position, Orji argued that they had earlier accepted far larger sums for constituency projects without raising similar concerns.

“You cannot reject N100,000 because you claim it was not appropriated and then remain silent about N350 million given to each lawmaker for constituency projects,” he said.

Orji insisted that the payments were made after the budget had been signed into law, adding that the lawmakers did not object at the time, including when other benefits such as official vehicles were provided.

He maintained that the governor acted within the law and accused the lawmakers of applying double standards in their claims over budgetary appropriations.

Rivers: We’re proceeding with Fubara’s impeachment—State Assembly

0

The Rivers State House of Assembly has declared it will press forward with the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara despite ongoing tensions and intermittent delays in legislative activity, lawmakers said on Friday at a press briefing in Port Harcourt.

The move intensifies a long‑standing political face‑off between the executive and legislative arms of government in the oil‑rich state. Mostly ignited tension between Fubara  and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The state Lawmakers, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, originally commenced impeachment proceedings last week, serving formal notices of alleged gross misconduct against Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu. The allegations reportedly include excess spending without legislative approval and refusal to present the 2026 budget bill to the Assembly.

However, the House failed to reconvene on Thursday — the date it had previously set to resume consideration of the impeachment — raising questions about the pace of the process. This followed appeals from several Assembly members urging a political solution to the crisis and calls from civil society organisations challenging the constitutional basis of the impeachment notice.

This latest standoff is rooted in a deeper conflict that has gripped Rivers politics for over a year. In March 2025, then political tensions between Fubara and Wike led to a six‑month state of emergency declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during which the governor, his deputy, and all members of the State Assembly were suspended and a military administrator was appointed. That emergency rule was later lifted, but discord between the Assembly and the governor has persisted as lawmakers resumed legislative functions.

The current impeachment effort comes as some lawmakers withdraw support for the process, even as others insist it should continue on constitutional grounds. State political actors and civic groups are urging calm and dialogue as the crisis unfolds.
