They’ve forgiven me—TikToker Peller announces breakup with Jarvis

0

Popular Nigerian TikToker and content creator Peller has confirmed that he and his girlfriend, Jarvis, have ended their relationship.

The announcement comes weeks after Peller was involved in a car crash that drew public attention and led to his hospitalization and subsequent arrest by authorities for traffic-related offenses.

Speaking during a TikTok livestream on Thursday, January 1, 2026, Peller said the breakup was mutual and urged fans to respect their decision.

“Jarvis and I have officially broken up. For now, we’re just friends. We kindly ask everyone to respect our decision. Please don’t bully anyone,” he said.

Peller added that he had reached out to Jarvis’s family to apologize and seek reconciliation following the incident.

“I’ve spoken with her family and asked for forgiveness. They were angry at first but later forgave me. We’re still friends, but she asked that I stay away for now,” he explained.

The TikToker appealed to the public to show understanding as both parties move on.

Fuel, food price reductions to ease Nigeria’s inflation to 12.94% in 2026 — CBN

0

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has projected that Nigeria’s inflation rate will fall to 12.94 per cent in 2026, supported by expected reductions in fuel and food prices.

The projection is contained in the apex bank’s 2026 Macroeconomic Outlook released on Wednesday. According to the report, Africa’s most populous economy is forecast to expand by 4.49 per cent next year.

The CBN attributed the anticipated growth to sustained benefits from broad-based structural reforms and a gradually easing monetary policy environment.

“Headline inflation is projected to moderate to an estimated average of 12.94 per cent in 2026, driven largely by declining food prices and lower premium motor spirit (PMS) costs,” the bank stated.

The outlook follows recent reductions in fuel prices across the country, triggered by an intense price war in the downstream oil sector. Dangote Refinery, in a bid to outcompete fuel marketers, significantly cut its gantry price, pushing pump prices to between N739 and N910 per litre nationwide.

Meanwhile, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) for November 2025 showed that Nigeria’s food inflation eased to 11.08 per cent, reinforcing expectations of a broader slowdown in inflationary pressures.

Rivers: Dog barks when it doesn’t understand—Fubara speaks amid fresh tension with Wike

0

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has called on his supporters to remain calm despite the ongoing political face-off between him and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The governor gave the assurance while speaking at the New Year banquet held on Thursday at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

Fubara said his camp has chosen not to react noisily to the situation because they fully understand what is happening, adding that those making noise are doing so out of confusion.

He assured his supporters that necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure the smooth running of his administration as well as his re-election ambition.

Using an analogy, the governor explained that reactions often come from a lack of understanding, stressing that his administration remains focused on its direction and objectives.

Fubara reiterated that his team knows where it is headed and has already put all the required measures in place to ensure a smooth political journey.

Don’t be disturbed by what is happening. Caesar, in one of his quotes, said the only reason the dog barks is when it doesn’t understand.

“If you have a dog in your house and it knows you, does it need to bark? So when the dog starts barking, maybe it is seeing something it doesn’t understand.

“We are not barking because we understand. We know where we are going, and we have set all the things that are needed to make the journey smooth.”

EPL Table: Arsenal extend lead into January 2026 as Man City held by Sunderland

0

Arsenal tightened their grip on the top of the Premier League table after Manchester City were held to a goalless draw by Sunderland on Thursday night.

City missed the chance to narrow the gap on the leaders, drawing 0-0 with the newly promoted side at the Stadium of Light.

Earlier in the week, Arsenal had surged five points clear at the summit following a convincing 4-1 win over Aston Villa.

Pep Guardiola’s side went into the encounter on a nine-match winning streak, but that run ended on New Year’s Day as they failed to find the back of the net.

The result leaves Manchester City on 41 points, four behind Arsenal at the top of the table.

City will next host managerless Chelsea in their upcoming league clash, while the Gunners are set to travel to Bournemouth.

Nigeria not as Dangerous as US- American Rapper DDG tells Trump

American rapper and social media personality Darryl Dwayne Jr., widely known as DDG, has said he believes Nigeria is far less dangerous than the United States.

DDG shared his view on Thursday via a post on X while visiting Lagos, pushing back against the long-standing perception that Nigeria is an unsafe country.

According to the rapper, the United States poses greater security risks, particularly due to the frequency of gang-related violence.

“I think America is the most dangerous country there is, to be honest. I don’t think Nigeria is as dangerous as America, nowhere near,” he wrote.

Drawing from his experience in Nigeria, DDG noted that his time in the country did not reflect the negative narratives often associated with it. He also urged potential visitors not to be discouraged by stereotypes and misleading reports about safety in Nigeria.

University of the Gambia renames faculty after former Nigerian minister Adesina

0

The University of The Gambia has renamed its School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences in honor of the former president of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina.

The recognition is in appreciation of Adesina’s outstanding contributions to agriculture, food security, and economic development across Africa.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by his media aide, Mr. Victor Oladokun, and made available to journalists on Thursday in Lagos.

President Adama Barrow on Wednesday unveiled a plaque officially designating the faculty as the Dr. Akinwumi Adesina School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.

Speaking at the ceremony, Barrow said the renaming symbolized The Gambia’s gratitude for Adesina’s “visionary leadership and enduring impact on Africa’s agricultural transformation.”

Adesina served as AfDB President from 2015 to 2025, a period marked by sweeping institutional reforms and major development initiatives across the continent.

Under his leadership, the Bank introduced the High 5s agenda—Light Up and Power Africa, Feed Africa, Integrate Africa, Industrialize Africa, and Improve the Quality of Life of Africans—which, according to AfDB data, positively affected over 535 million people.

During the same period, the bank’s capital base expanded from 93 billion dollars to 318 billion dollars, the largest in its history, while maintaining its AAA credit rating and earning multiple international accolades.

Adesina also championed the Feed Africa Strategy, which improved food security for more than 104 million people and boosted agricultural productivity continent-wide.

In The Gambia, the AfDB financed the Senegambia Bridge, a landmark infrastructure project that has eased movement between The Gambia and Senegal, enhanced trade, and strengthened regional integration.

The decision to rename the faculty was conveyed in a letter dated November 27, 2025, from the Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology, Prof. Pierre Gomez.

Gomez described Adesina’s tenure at the AfDB as transformative, noting that his leadership drove economic growth, poverty reduction, and sustainable development across Africa.

He added that initiatives such as the Feed Africa Strategy and the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) program had revolutionized agricultural productivity and food security.

The university said the honor was intended to inspire students to emulate Adesina’s vision, resilience, and commitment to Africa’s development.

In his response, Adesina thanked President Barrow for the recognition, describing it as a rare and deeply humbling honor.

“It is with great humility and profound gratitude that I appreciate the renaming of the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences in my honor,” he said.

It will be recalled that President Barrow, in 2023, conferred on Adesina The Gambia’s highest national honor—the Grand Commander of the Order of the Republic—in recognition of his contributions to the country and the African continent.

Why we suspended tinted glass permit enforcement nationwide again – Police

0

The Nigeria Police Force has explained the reason for the suspension of the nationwide enforcement of its tinted glass permit policy following an interim court order restraining the action.

The Force had earlier announced on December 15, 2025, that enforcement of the policy would commence on January 2, 2026, citing its mandate to safeguard public safety and internal security.

However, the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that the police were served with an interim court order on December 17, 2025, directing the suspension of the enforcement.

According to Hundeyin, the policy will remain on hold pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit or until the interim order is set aside.

“The Nigeria Police Force was served with an interim order of court in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, issued on December 17, 2025, restraining the Force from proceeding with the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit or the vacation of the order,” the statement read.

The police also revealed that they have entered an appearance in the matter, filed preliminary objections, and formally applied for the interim order to be vacated.

The case has been adjourned to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings.

Gabon govt suspends national team, bans Aubameyang

The Gabonese government has suspended the country’s national football team and dissolved its technical crew following a disappointing outing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Sports Minister Simplice-Desire Mamboula announced the decision during a broadcast on Gabonese television, describing the team’s performance at the tournament as unacceptable.

As part of the sanctions, senior players Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bruno Ecuele Manga have been banned from the national team until further notice, while the entire coaching staff has been relieved of their duties.“Given the Panthers’ disgraceful performance at the AFCON, the government has decided to dissolve the technical staff, suspend the national team until further notice, and remove players Bruno Ecuele Manga and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang,” Mamboula said.

The announcement came on the same day Gabon were knocked out of the competition. A 3–2 defeat to hosts Ivory Coast sealed their elimination from the tournament.

Gabon finished bottom of Group F, behind Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Mozambique, bringing their AFCON 2025 campaign to an abrupt end.

Akpabio made this known on Thursday in his New Year message to Nigerians, explaining that the decision followed personal reflection.

“After I listened to the priest, I suddenly realised he was speaking directly to me. As a result, I have directed my solicitor to withdraw all lawsuits against them,” Akpabio said.

The Senate President did not give further details on the cases but emphasized forgiveness and reconciliation as the motivation behind his decision.
