Arsenal tightened their grip on the top of the Premier League table after Manchester City were held to a goalless draw by Sunderland on Thursday night.
City missed the chance to narrow the gap on the leaders, drawing 0-0 with the newly promoted side at the Stadium of Light.
Earlier in the week, Arsenal had surged five points clear at the summit following a convincing 4-1 win over Aston Villa.
Pep Guardiola’s side went into the encounter on a nine-match winning streak, but that run ended on New Year’s Day as they failed to find the back of the net.
The result leaves Manchester City on 41 points, four behind Arsenal at the top of the table.
City will next host managerless Chelsea in their upcoming league clash, while the Gunners are set to travel to Bournemouth.
