Rivers: Wike drowning, always on news for wrong reason—Former Commissioner, Nwibubasa on tension with Fubara

0

A former Commissioner for Employment Generation and Empowerment in Rivers State, Leloonu Nwibubasa, has described the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, as politically overwhelmed and searching for scapegoats.

Nwibubasa made the remarks on Friday during an interview on Arise Television, where he accused the former Rivers governor of refusing to allow peace and effective governance to take root in the state.

According to him, Wike has continued to attack his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, while also directing blame at individuals and groups he said have no real involvement in Rivers State politics.

“He is not only attacking his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, but also throwing tantrums and blaming outside actors that have nothing to do with politics in Rivers State,” Nwibubasa said.

He further stated that Wike has remained in the news for the wrong reasons, alleging that the FCT Minister deliberately stirs political tension in Rivers State despite leaving office as governor eight years ago.

“It is difficult to understand why someone who left office eight years ago would not allow Rivers people to rest by letting governance take place,” he added.

Nwibubasa concluded that Wike appears to be politically “drowning” and blaming everyone around him, describing the situation as unhealthy for the state’s political stability.

He advised the FCT Minister to reconsider his approach, particularly as he allegedly does not belong to any political party at the moment, stressing that Wike cannot continue to dominate Rivers politics without clear party affiliation.

Rivers: APC National Chairman ignores Wike, backs Fubara’s second term bid

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has affirmed Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the leader of the party in the state.

Yilwatda’s declaration comes amid renewed political tensions between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over control of the political structure in Rivers State.

After defecting to the APC, Fubara had earlier described himself as the party’s “number one” member in the state. However, Wike dismissed the claim, insisting that he remains in charge of the state’s political machinery, citing the alliance between the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in support of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

Speaking on Hard Copy, a Channels Television program, Yilwatda maintained that while Fubara is the APC leader in Rivers, inclusive coordination remains necessary.

“Governor Fubara is the leader of the APC in Rivers State, but he must work with all other stakeholders in the state,” Yilwatda said.

The APC chairman also clarified his position on the party’s governorship primaries, stating that his support would be determined by the outcome of the process.

“I do not choose who to support in a state primary election. If Fubara emerges as the APC candidate, I will support him. If he loses, I will sympathize with him and support whoever wins the primary,” he added.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has hit back at Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara following the governor’s recent “barking dog” comment amid their lingering political rift.

Nigerian Newssphere recalls that Governor Fubara, while speaking at the New Year banquet on Thursday, had remarked, “If you have a dog in your house and it knows you, does it need to bark?” The comment was widely seen as a response to the renewed hostility between him and his former political benefactor.

Reacting on Friday during a visit to Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA), Wike dismissed the remark and claimed credit for Fubara’s emergence as governor.

According to Wike, the same “dog” Fubara referred to was instrumental in making him governor when others distanced themselves. He said he was unbothered by the governor’s comments and wished him well.

“This dog that is barking now barked even when Rivers people did not know who he was. That same dog made him governor when others ran away,” Wike said. “I am not afraid that the same dog is now barking. I wish him good luck.”

The FCT minister also reiterated his political stance ahead of future elections, declaring support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We have decided to support Asiwaju Tinubu. There is no discussion about that,” he said. “But there is one decision we must take: we will not make the mistake we made last time. We will correct the mistake.”

Wike further took a swipe at some political actors who recently returned to the fold after working with former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, questioning their political value.

“I heard him say those who worked with Atiku are back. They couldn’t even give Atiku 10 percent. So what is the political advantage?” he added. “I won’t mention names, but you all know them.”

The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has formally collapsed its structure into the faction led by Aaron Chukwuemeka, which is aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The development was announced on Friday by Robinson Nname Ewor, the factional chairman of the Turaki-led PDP in the state, during Wike’s visit to Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.

Ewor declared that the party was no longer factionalized in Rivers State, stating that the leadership of the Turaki-led group had been handed over to Chukwuemeka, whom he described as the sole chairman of the party in the state under Wike’s leadership.

Recalls that Ewor had, during a media briefing in Port Harcourt on Thursday, accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of misleading PDP members by claiming he had the political capacity to defeat Wike in the ongoing political contest in the state.

Speaking at the event, Ewor said he was relinquishing his position as chairman of the faction, stressing that the PDP now operates under a single leadership structure in Rivers State, loyal to the FCT minister.

According to him, “PDP is no longer factionalized in Rivers State. It is under one chairman and one leadership.”

Sexual relationship scandal: Pastor Chris Okafor officially steps down[VIDEO]

The founder of Grace Nation International, also known as Liberation City, Pastor Chris Okafor, has announced a temporary withdrawal from ministering on the pulpit.

The decision follows growing public calls for him to step aside from his pastoral and leadership roles amid an ongoing relationship controversy.

Speaking during the church’s New Year service on Thursday, Okafor disclosed that four pastors would take over church ministrations throughout January 2026. He named Pastors Sylvester, Kelvin, Oliver, and Shadrach as those who will minister on all four Sundays in the month.

According to him, the services in January will be “prophetic Sundays,” during which the pastors will preach and minister to members while he takes time off.

Okafor explained that the break would allow him to rest and embark on a personal retreat, as well as spend time with his wife. He noted that since their wedding, they had not taken time to rest or go on a honeymoon.

The controversy surrounding the pastor began after a video allegedly showing him with a younger partner surfaced online. Following his engagement, several women, including Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, publicly accused him of promising them marriage and having intimate relationships with them.

Despite the backlash, Okafor later married his partner in another church, after actress Ogala reportedly threatened to disrupt the wedding ceremony.

‘We’re going to war’—Bauchi Gov. Mohammed warns Tinubu, APC against witch-hunt

0

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has warned that opposition figures would push back if the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government continues what he described as the misuse of state institutions to target non-APC members.

Mohammed spoke in Bauchi on Friday while receiving an award as Safety Ambassador from the Safety Institute of Nigeria. He said the nature of politics in the country had taken a troubling turn.

The governor claimed he was recently accused of terrorism and expressed concern over the continued detention of one of his commissioners by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He also faulted the mention of his name in a court motion despite enjoying constitutional immunity as a sitting governor.

According to him, the federal government was deploying institutions such as the courts and anti-graft agencies to harass and prosecute political opponents.

“Politics has become something else in Nigeria,” Mohammed said. “The APC-led federal government thinks it can use the courts and institutions of government, like the EFCC, to persecute and prosecute Nigerians who are not in their party. If they don’t stop, we’re going to declare war,” he said.

ISWAP terrorists threatening Christian to covert Islam don’t represent Muslims— Bashir Ahmad

0

Former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has condemned the threats issued by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) against Christians, insisting that the group’s actions have no connection to Islam or its teachings.

Ahmad made the statement in a post on his official X handle on Friday, reacting to reports that ISWAP had threatened Christians with death unless they convert to Islam or pay a jizyah tax.

Nigerian Newssphere reports that the terrorist group recently circulated images of a Christian community in Adamawa State set ablaze, alongside a message declaring Christians in Nigeria as legitimate targets while offering them the option to convert or pay tax to avoid violence.

Responding to the development, Ahmad said the actions of ISWAP amount to a gross distortion of Islamic principles, stressing that Islam does not permit coercion or violence in matters of faith.

According to him, the Qur’an clearly states that there is no compulsion in religion, noting that Muslims historically lived peacefully alongside non-Muslims during the time of Prophet Muhammad in Makkah and Madinah, guided by justice, mutual respect and shared humanity.

Ahmad described ISWAP’s campaign of intimidation and violence as a betrayal of Islam and humanity, adding that such acts are wholly condemnable and stand in opposition to the true values of the religion.

‘Obidients’ not in ADC are ‘DisObidients’ — Kenneth Okonkwo

0

Nollywood actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has said supporters of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who are not members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) should no longer be regarded as Obidients.

Okonkwo made the remark while urging Obi’s supporters to join the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections. He spoke on Friday during an appearance on The Morning Brief, a programme on Channels Television.

According to him, it was a strategic error for Obi’s supporters to be spread across different political parties. He added that Obi has since adjusted his approach.

“When I was in the Labour Party, I said it was a tactical mistake to tell your followers they could join all political parties. I’m glad that my brother, Peter Obi, has changed that tactic,” Okonkwo said.

He referenced Obi’s recent comments during an X Space interaction, where the former presidential candidate reportedly asked Obidients to register as ADC members.

“If you are an Obidient and you are not in the ADC, sorry, you’re not an Obidient — you are a disObidient,” he stated.

Okonkwo further described the ADC as a platform for credible individuals, noting that the party enjoys strong support in the South-East. He added that internal democracy remains a core principle of the ADC and would not be compromised.

The lawyer also welcomed Obi’s recent defection to the party, stressing that he would support whoever emerges as the ADC’s presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.

‘Nobody Has Monopoly on Madness’—Shehu Sani mocks Trump after Mali, Burkina Faso slam Visa Ban on US

0

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has applauded the decision by Mali and Burkina Faso to impose visa restrictions on United States nationals.

Reacting in a post on his verified X account on Friday, Sani described the move as a bold and symbolic response, insisting that “nobody has the monopoly of madness.”

He said the action taken by Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger was a courageous retaliation to visa bans and restrictions introduced by former US President Donald Trump, calling it a proud moment for Africa.

According to Sani, attempts by Africans to disown their identity or demean their countries in order to please imperial powers often end in rejection.

“No matter how the Black man tries to disown and demean his country and lick the boots of imperialism, he will never be embraced or loved by the ideologically far right,” he stated.

Nigerian Newssphere recalls that Mali and Burkina Faso recently announced travel restrictions on American nationals, explaining the rationale behind their decision in response to US policies affecting their citizens.
