The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is set to host the inaugural Digital Economy Awareness and Sensitization Forum, a major event designed to drive innovation, inclusion, and equitable participation in Nigeria’s growing digital economy.

This was disclosed in a statement by NCC’s spokesperson, Nnenna Ukoha

Scheduled for November 13, 2025, the forum, themed “Leaving No One Behind: Digital Assets, Equity, and Empowerment,” will bring together policymakers, industry experts, innovators, and community leaders to discuss strategies for closing the digital divide and expanding access to digital resources nationwide.

Championing a Digitally Inclusive Future

The NCC says the Digital Awareness and Sensitization Fora will serve as a platform to build Infrastructure for Innovation and Inclusion (I4I) — a key step toward strengthening Nigeria’s digital transformation framework.

Key discussion areas will include:

  • Designing inclusive digital policies

  • Promoting affordable and accessible infrastructure

  • Developing digital literacy programs for underserved communities

  • Ensuring affordability and digital equity across all demographics

Empowering Nigeria’s Youth and Digital Workforce

Africa is home to the world’s youngest population, with more than 60 per cent under the age of 25. Recognizing this, the NCC aims to leverage Nigeria’s youthful demographic as a catalyst for innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth.

With over 140 million Internet users, the NCC remains committed to ensuring a safe, accessible, and inclusive digital space, encouraging full participation in Nigeria’s digital economy. The forum will engage stakeholders from government, academia, the private sector, and civil society to explore solutions for empowerment, digital equity, and national development.

INEC declares Soludo winner of Anambra governorship election

0

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared and returned Prof. Chukwuma Soludo as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State.

Soludo, who contested on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for re-election for a second term, was challenged by 15 other candidates, including close rivals Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Paul Chukwuma of Young Progressives Party (YPP), John Nwosu of African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Dr George Moghalu of Labour Party (LP), among others.

Declaring the final results of the election, the state collation officer, Professor Edoba B. Omoregie, SAN, the vice chancellor of the University of Benin, announced the total tally for the election.

He said, “The total registered voters in the state is 2,788,864; the total accredited voters for the election which was held yesterday is 598,229.”

He also announced the total valid votes for the election as 584,054, while rejected votes stood at 11,244, and the total votes cast, 595,298.

Announcing votes garnered by the candidates, Omoregie announced that the APGA candidate, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, scored 422,664 as the highest figure in the election. Three of his challengers, Ukachukwu of APC, scored 99,445; Paul Chukwuma of YPP, 37,753; Moghalu of LP, 10,576; and Nwosu of ADC, 8,208.

Omoregie, after computing the results, said 10,481 total voters were affected in areas where there were skirmishes, but when the figures were added up for the number of votes by the leading candidate and the runner-up, it was discovered that the error margin did not affect the winner.

He said, “I hereby certify that I’m the returning officer of the election. I also certify that the election was contested and a winner emerged. I declare that Soludo Charles Chukwuma, having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared elected.

“I must add that the winner scored the required votes in two-thirds of the local government. There are 21 local government areas in the state, and the candidate scored two-thirds in all the local governments

Regina Daniels accuses Ned Nwoko of Holding Her ‘Sex Tape’, vows legal battle

0

Embattled Nollywood star Regina Daniels has stirred major controversy after alleging that her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, is in possession of her private bedroom tape.

Daniels made the claim while reacting to Nwoko’s public accusation that she was involved in drug abuse. The actress took to Instagram to refute the allegation, insisting that the narrative was deliberately crafted to destroy her reputation.

According to her, she had placed total trust in Nwoko during their marriage, even to the extent of sharing her most private and vulnerable moments with him.

“Yes, the world now believes Regina Daniels did drugs because that is the story my husband pushed,” she wrote. “I trusted you completely — even with my sex tape. I only pray it never gets leaked. You were always one step ahead of me negatively.”

Daniels said she married Nwoko at 17, stressing that she had no history of substance use before the relationship. She accused the senator of ruining her name and image, but vowed to rebuild her story and reputation.

“My name may be dented for now, but I will rewrite my narrative,” she declared.

Regina Daniels concluded by announcing that she is prepared to take the battle to court, saying she will “fight with all of me.”

EPL: Arsenal drop point against Sunderland

0

Arsenal drew 2-2 against Sunderland on their Saturday English Premier League fixtures.

The Gunners travelled to the Stadium of Light, knowing that a win will widen the gap at the top, ahead of Manchester City’s game against Liverpool tomorrow.

But it was the hosts who took the lead, with former Arsenal defender Daniel Ballard ending their clean sheet run with a vicious finish from a long ball.

Mikel Arteta’s men fought their way back in the second half, with Bukayo Saka pouncing on a defensive error to level the scores.

Arsenal then went ahead with a long-range strike from Leandro Trossard.

However, their winning run came to an end after Brian Brobbey volleyed in a late equaliser for Sunderland.

Arsenal now have 26 points, seven ahead of City and Sunderland.

BREAKING: Anambra election result: Shock as APC wins Peter Obi’s Polling Unit

0

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a surprise victory over the Labour Party (LP) in the polling unit of former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during the ongoing Anambra governorship election.

Official results announced around 3 p.m. at Polling Unit 019, Agulu Ward 11, in Anaocha Local Government Area, showed the APC candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, leading with 73 votes.
The Labour Party candidate, George Moghalu, trailed with 57 votes, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) finished third with 38 votes.
Peter Obi, who voted earlier at the same polling unit, had vigorously campaigned for his party ahead of the election.
This development is notable as Obi enjoyed overwhelming support in Anambra during the 2023 presidential election, where he secured more than 95% of the votes in the state.

EPL: Amorim Blasts Man Utd Players after 2-2 draw with Tottenham, reveals what went Wrong

0

Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has expressed frustration over his team’s lack of intensity, after they allowed a 1-0 lead to slip in their 2-2 Premier League draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

United took the lead in the first half through Bryan Mbeumo and appeared to be in control. However, Tottenham came back strong in the second half, with late goals from Mathys Tel and Richarlison turning the game around.

Matthijs De Ligt, who was initially at fault for Tel’s equalizer, later made amends by scoring a powerful header to rescue a point for the Red Devils.

Speaking after the match, Amorim admitted his side became too relaxed and failed to maintain their pressing rhythm.

“During the game we felt like the three points were there to take home,” Amorim said.

“But then with everything that happened — Harry Maguire and Casemiro going off and conceding two goals — we managed to score again and got a point. When you cannot win, you don’t lose.

“But we need to look at ourselves. We were not pressing with the same intensity. We felt comfortable, but we needed more bravery to kill the game. Today was our day to win.”

The draw adds to growing concerns about Manchester United’s inconsistency this season, as Amorim insists the team still has “so much to grow.”

Panic Hits Nigerian Stock Market as Trump’s Threat Triggers N2.8trn Loss in Five Days

0

The Nigerian stock market witnessed a sharp and sustained downturn last week as investors reacted to heightened geopolitical tensions following U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent warning to Nigeria.

Investors at the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) recorded a staggering loss of N2.8 trillion between November 3 and 7, 2025, marking one of the most turbulent trading periods of the year.

Market data shows that equity capitalisation plunged to N94.9 trillion during the week, while the All-Share Index (ASI) dipped by 2.99 per cent, slipping from 154,126.46 points to 149,524.81 points. The market remained bearish throughout the five-day trading period.

The sell-offs were severe across all sessions. On Monday alone, investors lost N245.88 billion. The decline deepened on Tuesday with an additional N611.96 billion wiped off market value. Wednesday saw the steepest fall, recording a massive N1.31 trillion slump — the highest daily loss for the week.

Losses continued on Thursday and Friday, with declines of N347.75 billion and N318.78 billion respectively, bringing total losses for the week to N2.8 trillion.

Trading activity also slowed as investors adopted caution. A total of 3.575 billion shares valued at N107.011 billion exchanged hands in 146,429 deals, sharply lower than the 7.479 billion shares worth N145.429 billion traded in the previous week.

The financial services sector maintained dominance, accounting for 2.946 billion shares valued at N65.904 billion in 62,817 transactions. Fidelity Bank Plc, FCMB Group Plc, and Aso Savings & Loans Plc led trading by volume with a combined 1.288 billion shares valued at N19.3 billion, representing 36.03 per cent of the total trading volume and 18.08 per cent of overall value.

Market breadth weakened as only 20 stocks appreciated, down from 29 in the previous week. Meanwhile, 75 equities declined compared to the earlier week’s 70, while 51 stocks closed unchanged.

Top gainers included NCR (Nigeria) Plc with a 20.94 per cent rise, Eunisell Interlinked Plc with 20.17 per cent, and Union Dicon Salt Plc at 9.93 per cent.

On the losers’ list, Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc led with a 28.21 per cent drop, followed by C & I Leasing Plc falling 20.16 per cent, and Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc down 18.99 per cent.

The heightened market volatility follows President Donald Trump’s recent announcement designating Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged persecution of Christians.

Trump subsequently warned of possible military action, a development analysts say may have shaken investor confidence.

The geopolitical tension, combined with ongoing macroeconomic pressures and profit-taking activities, contributed to the sharp sell-offs witnessed during the week.

Market watchers say investors will closely monitor upcoming domestic policy signals, diplomatic engagements, and global reactions before returning to aggressive positions in Nigerian equities.

Christian genocide: CAN youths back Trump military action in Nigeria, demand arrest of Sheikh Gumi

The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) has raised a passionate alarm over what it described as “systematic genocide and government silence” against Christian communities across the country.

Speaking during a convention held in the Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State, the National Secretary of YOWICAN, Elder Bako Elijah, made this call alongside YOWICAN leaders from Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, and the North-east.

He lamented the rising wave of killings, kidnappings, and destruction of Christian communities in parts of the North and Middle Belt, accusing government authorities of failing in their constitutional duty to protect lives and property.

Quoting Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution, which states that “the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government,” Adashu said the situation on the ground paints a picture of neglect and impunity.

“Killings, kidnappings, and destruction of communities have become daily occurrences while those responsible walk freely,” he said. “Despite overwhelming evidence of targeted attacks against Christian communities, government action remains weak or nonexistent.”

The YOWICAN scribe challenged Nigerian leaders to reflect rather than react to the recent comments made by the United States President, Donald Trump, on terrorism and genocide in Nigeria, describing the remarks as “a wake-up call, not an attack on sovereignty.”

He named numerous incidents of violence in Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa states — citing mass killings, destruction of churches, and forced displacement of Christian communities. Adashu also referenced the tragic cases of Leah Sharibu and Deborah Samuel, describing them as symbols of faith and courage amid persecution.

“These are not isolated incidents,” he stressed. “They form part of a deliberate pattern to erase Christian presence from the region.”

YOWICAN further demanded an end to the integration of so-called “repentant terrorists” into the military and the prosecution of Islamic clerics Sheikh Ahmed Gumi and Yahaya Gingril for inciting hate speech.

“Our call is simple: Let there be justice, let there be peace, and let Nigeria rise again as a nation where faith is not a crime and human life is sacred,” he declared.

This comes as President Trump recently designated Nigeria as a ‘country of particular concern’. The US thereafter threatened military action on Nigeria if the federal government did not do something about addressing alleged killings of Christians.
