It’s Over — TikToker Jarvis confirms Break-up with Peller

0

TikTok personality Jarvis has announced the end of her relationship with fellow influencer Hamzat Habeeb, popularly known as Peller.

Jarvis made the disclosure during a live broadcast on Tuesday, amid growing reactions to Peller’s recent hospitalisation following a crash on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos, which reportedly occurred during a livestream.

Addressing online comments linking the accident to their relationship, Jarvis said the ridicule circulating on social media was worsening an already painful situation. She urged the public to stop mocking Peller, noting that some of the reactions lacked empathy.

She explained that the incident should not be used to judge Peller’s character, stressing that she had never portrayed him as a bad person. According to her, Peller’s main challenge is emotional regulation rather than malicious intent.

“Yes, he cannot control his emotions. That’s the problem. I can control mine, but he can’t control his. We need to join hands together to help him,” she said.

Confirming the breakup, Jarvis stated that the decision was necessary and should not be seen as abandonment or hostility. She described Peller as a kind person and admitted that she did not wish for the relationship to end.

“The relationship is not the thing now. It’s not about going back to who we were,” she said. “The solution is for us to put our heads together to help him become better. It’s not space because we are not talking; it’s space from the relationship. It is over for now.”

Her comments have continued to generate mixed reactions across social media platforms.

Recall that Peller crashed his car recently in Lagos state over alleged break-up with Jarvis.

Senate approves 2026–2028 MTEF, clears path for Tinubu’s N54.4 trillion budget proposal

0

The Nigerian Senate has approved the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), setting the stage for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill, estimated at N54.4 trillion, later this week.

The approval followed deliberations on a report presented during Tuesday’s plenary by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa.

Announcing the passage, Senate President Godswill Akpabio described the MTEF as a statutory requirement that must be concluded before the presentation of the national budget. He, however, noted that the framework does not represent the final position of the legislature.

“The Medium-Term Expenditure Framework is only a prerequisite before the presentation of the budget. What we are discussing here is not a finality. If circumstances change, it will be brought back to us to rejig, react, or act,” Akpabio said.

According to him, the approval will enable the National Assembly to receive the 2026 budget proposal between now and Thursday. He added that the framework remains subject to review once the full budget is formally presented to lawmakers.

Akpabio expressed confidence that the projections contained in the MTEF would be realistic enough to support the effective implementation of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

President Tinubu had earlier transmitted the 2026–2028 MTEF and Fiscal Strategy Paper to the National Assembly, officially kicking off the 2026 budget process.

Niger sacks 30 SAs

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has approved the disengagement of 30 special advisers as part of a move to restructure and strengthen the state’s governance framework.

The decision was disclosed on Tuesday by the governor’s chief press secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, who said the action is aimed at revamping the administration and enhancing efficiency in line with the governor’s New Niger agenda.

According to the statement, no details were given regarding fresh appointments or possible reassignments of the affected advisers.

Governor Bago reportedly announced the decision during his maiden State Executive Council meeting with the newly inaugurated commissioners at the Government House in Minna.

Bologi explained that the disengagement was necessary to enable the governor to rejig and reposition the advisory portfolios for improved effectiveness and efficiency.

He added that the governor expressed appreciation to the affected advisers for their sacrifices and contributions to the administration while wishing them success in their future endeavors.

Senate orders NSA Ribadu to investigate viral death rumours about Akpabio, Gowon

0

The Nigerian Senate has directed the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, to investigate widespread social media rumours claiming that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, had died.

The resolution followed a motion raised during plenary by Senator Titus Zam (APC, Benue North-West) under Order 42 of the Senate Rules.

Moving the motion, Zam expressed concern over what he described as dangerous misinformation circulating online, including reports alleging that Akpabio collapsed and died in a London hospital. He noted that the claims were clearly false, as the Senate President was alive, well, and presiding over plenary.

The senator also decried a similar rumour concerning General Gowon, which spread on social media on the same day the former leader attended a Christmas carol service in Abuja.

Zam urged the Senate to order an investigation into the sources of the fake reports, stressing the need to identify and hold accountable those behind the misinformation.

Responding, Akpabio acknowledged the growing challenge of regulating content on social media, remarking that people often post what he termed “garbage in, garbage out.” He cited instances where funerals of prominent Nigerians were shared online while the individuals involved were still alive.

The Senate President subsequently upheld the motion and directed that the matter be referred to the office of the NSA for thorough investigation.

“Your Point of Order is sustained. I think all we can do is to refer it to the NSA for investigation,” Akpabio said.

$5m Swiss tuition: Dangote drags NMDPRA Boss Ahmed to ICPC

0

The Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has refused to back down as he formally submitted his petition against the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, Ahmed Farouk, to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, accusing him of corruption and financial impropriety.

In the petition submitted on December 16 through his lawyer, James Onoja, SAN, Dangote demanded the arrest, investigation, and prosecution of Ahmed for allegedly living above his means as a public servant.

The petition was received by the office of the Chairman of the ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN.

The Dangote Group chairman specifically accused the NMDPRA boss of spending, without evidence of lawful means of income, sums amounting to over 7 million USD on the education of his four children in different schools in Switzerland for a period of six years upfront.

Dangote, in the petition, named the four children and their schools in Switzerland, including the amount paid for each of them, to establish his allegations.

He alleged that Farouk Ahmed was using the instrumentality of the NMDPRA to embezzle and divert public funds for self-gain and pursuit of private interest to the detriment of the Nigerian people, which orchestrated uproar and protest by different groups recently.

The billionaire businessman claimed that Farouk Ahmed, throughout his lifetime as an adult, worked in the public sector in Nigeria and that the totality of his earnings over the years was nothing close to 7 million USD, allegedly diverted from the public coffers to pay for the education of his teenage children abroad.

Parts of the petition read, “It is without doubt that the above facts in relation to abuse of office, breach of Code of Conduct for public officers, corrupt enrichment, and embezzlement are gross acts of corrupt practices for which your Commission (ICPC) is statutorily empowered under section 19 of the ICPC Act to investigate and prosecute.

“Upon a successful prosecution of such a person, under section 19 of the ICPC Act, the person is liable to imprisonment for five years without an option of a fine.

“We make bold to state that the ICPC is strategically positioned along the sister agencies to prosecute financial crimes and other corruption-related offenses, and upon establishing a prima facie case, the courts do not hesitate to punish offenders.

“In view of the above, we call on the Commission under your leadership to investigate the complaint of abuse of office and corruption against Engr. Farouk Ahmed and to accordingly prosecute him if found wanting.

“We have no reservation that being a matter that is in the public domain, the Commission will not close its eyes to it but act decisively to ensure that justice is done and the good image of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is protected.”

Dangote vowed to be on the ground to proffer evidence in proof of his allegations of corrupt enrichment, abuse of office, and impunity against Engr. Farouk Ahmed.

Recall that Dangote had published the details of his allegation in a document he personally signed on Tuesday.

$5m Swiss Tuition: Dangote publishes fresh Details in Allegation Against NMDPRA Boss

0

Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Refinery and Chairman of Dangote Group, has released further details of his allegation concerning the foreign education expenses of the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed.

In a document that surfaced publicly on Tuesday and was personally signed by Dangote, the billionaire businessman alleged that Ahmed spent about $5 million on the secondary and tertiary education of his four children abroad, particularly in Switzerland and the United States.

The disclosure comes less than 24 hours after Dangote called for a probe into Ahmed, accusing him of living beyond his legitimate income.

According to the document, Ahmed’s children allegedly attended some of the world’s most expensive schools, including Montreux School, Aiglon College, Institut Le Rosey and La Garenne International School, with each child reportedly spending around six years in these institutions.

The document provided a cost breakdown estimating tuition fees, upkeep, air travel and living expenses at about $200,000 per child annually. This amounts to roughly $800,000 per year for four children and an estimated $4.8 million over six years, with total secondary education expenses put at about $5 million.

Dangote further alleged that one of Ahmed’s children, identified as Faisal Farouk, recently completed an MBA programme at Harvard University, with tuition reportedly costing $150,000 and an additional $60,000 for upkeep and related expenses, bringing the total to about $210,000 in 2025.

As of the time of filing this report, Engr. Farouk Ahmed has not publicly responded to the renewed allegations, and no official statement has been issued by the NMDPRA. However, when similar claims surfaced months ago, the regulator dismissed them as false.

Nigerian Newssphere recalls that the coalition of civil society organisations under the umbrella of Lawyers in Defence of Good Governance, which initially made the allegation against Ahmed, later retracted it, describing the claim as misinformation.

Meanwhile, the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) has earlier urged both Dangote and Ahmed to halt further public exchanges over the matter.

‘I think Church  is a business’ – US rapper T.I

0

American rapper Clifford Joseph Harris, Jr., popularly known as T.I, has explained why he doesn’t attend church despite being a Christian.

The Alanta star said he was raised in a Christian household and believes in the “realness” of God, but the church, to him, is a business.

Speaking in a recent interview with Gospel musician Kirk Franklin, T.I accused Christian clergy of “twisting” the Bible and exploiting their congregations.

“I have never been a church person. I grew up in a strong Christian household. My grandma and auntie were very strong in prayer. So, I know how to pray and I know the word. And I know God is real, I’ve seen his presence and his hands in my life. But I have never felt the connection with the church,” he said.

“To be honest, I don’t think the church is real. I think it’s a business. It’s like a show. It’s like public-speaking, like TED talk. And sometimes, the clergies try to twist the word of God to benefit them.”

T.I also said that he doesn’t believe that he needs to pay tithe or make any financial commitment to a church before God could bless him.

“Y’all telling me.. I gotta pay this joker.. for my God to hear my prayer ??? Mehn i’m outta here,” the rapper said.

He added that he doesn’t believe there need to be a middleman in his relationship with God in the form of a clergy.

Bellingham gets two-month match ban

0

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jobe Bellingham has been suspended for two matches following his red card in Sunday’s Bundesliga clash against Freiburg.

The 20-year-old was sent off in the 53rd minute for a foul on Philipp Treu after Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel lost possession, leaving the Freiburg player clear on goal. Dortmund were leading 1-0 at the time, but the match eventually ended in a 1-1 draw.

On Monday, the German Football Association ruled that the incident constituted “unsporting behavior,” confirming the two-game ban.

Bellingham, who joined Dortmund from Sunderland in June, will miss his first Bundesliga fixtures for the club. He is set to sit out Friday’s match against Borussia Monchengladbach and the away game at Eintracht Frankfurt on January 9.
