Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jobe Bellingham has been suspended for two matches following his red card in Sunday’s Bundesliga clash against Freiburg.
The 20-year-old was sent off in the 53rd minute for a foul on Philipp Treu after Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel lost possession, leaving the Freiburg player clear on goal. Dortmund were leading 1-0 at the time, but the match eventually ended in a 1-1 draw.
On Monday, the German Football Association ruled that the incident constituted “unsporting behavior,” confirming the two-game ban.
Bellingham, who joined Dortmund from Sunderland in June, will miss his first Bundesliga fixtures for the club. He is set to sit out Friday’s match against Borussia Monchengladbach and the away game at Eintracht Frankfurt on January 9.
