Tinubu appoints Abe, Adeniji as chairmen of NUPRC, NMDPRA, and others

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded letters to the Senate seeking confirmation of 21 nominees for the boards of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday.

In the first letter, Senator Magnus Abe was nominated to serve as chairman of the NUPRC board. Abe, a two-term senator representing Rivers South East, is a former NNPC board member and currently chairs the National Agency of the Great Green Wall.

Other nominees for the NUPRC board include Engineer Paul Yaro Jezhi, former Trade Union Congress chairman in Kaduna, and Mr. Sunday Adebayo Babalola, a former deputy director at the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR). Both will serve as non-executive commissioners.

President Tinubu also proposed several executive commissioners: Muhammed Sabo Lamido (Finance), Mr. Edu Inyang (Exploration and Acreage), Justin Ezeala (Economic Regulation and Strategic Planning), Henry Darlington Oki (Development and Production), Indabawa Bashari Alka (Corporate Services and Administration), Mahmood Tijani (Health, Safety and Environment), and Ms. Olayemi Adeboyejo as Secretary and Legal Adviser.

Some of the nominees, including Lamido and Adeboyejo, were originally appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari, while Alka was appointed by President Tinubu in 2023. Others are new appointments by President Tinubu.

In a separate letter, President Tinubu nominated Mr. Adegbite Ebiowei Adeniji, a lawyer with over 30 years’ experience in energy and natural resources, as chairman of the NMDPRA board. Adeniji previously served as Special Technical Adviser to the Minister of State for Petroleum on upstream and gas issues and was part of the World Bank Oil & Gas Policy team advising the Nigerian government.

Other nominees for the NMDPRA board include Chief Kenneth Kobani and Mrs. Asabe Ahmed as non-executive members. Executive members nominated are Abiodun Adeniji (Finance), Francis Ogaree (Hydrocarbon), Oluwole Adama (Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure), and Dr. Mustapha Lamorde (Corporate Services and Administration).

Additional board members include Mr. Yahaya Nasamu Yinusa (Distribution Systems), Adeyemi Murtala Aminu (Corporate Services), Ms. Modie Ogechukwu (Economic Regulation and Strategic Planning), and Barrister Olawale Dawodu (Secretary and Legal Adviser).

The President urged the Senate to confirm the nominees promptly, following the recent appointments of CEOs for both agencies: Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan for NUPRC and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed for NMDPRA.

President Tinubu charged all appointees to discharge their regulatory duties with professionalism to ensure effective oversight of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

VeryDarkMan announces Girlfriend amid alleged romance with Jojo of Lele

0

Popular Nigerian social media critic, VeryDarkMan, has publicly unveiled his girlfriend, putting to rest months of speculation linking him romantically with content creator Jojo of Lele.

The outspoken commentator shared photos of himself and the unidentified woman across his social media platforms, announcing both her arrival and a temporary break from the internet.

“She’s here. Bye, internet for now,” he wrote alongside the images.

The announcement comes nearly a year after rumours of a relationship between VeryDarkMan and Jojo of Lele gained traction online. Jojo had repeatedly referred to the critic as her husband and, at one point, publicly declared him as her partner.

Nigerian Newssphere  recalls that in February 2025, VeryDarkMan mentioned Jojo of Lele among women he accused media personality Nedu Wazobia of allegedly sleeping with in exchange for appearances on his platform. Jojo firmly denied the claim, insisting she had never been involved with Nedu.

Amid the controversy, VeryDarkMan later invited Jojo to dinner in Abuja. After the meeting, the content creator openly expressed her affection for him, stating online that she was in love with the social media critic.

VeryDarkMan’s latest revelation, however, appears to draw a clear line under the speculation surrounding his relationship status.

BREAKING: Man United sack Ruben Amorim

0

Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim has been sacked following his public criticism of the club’s leadership.

The decision comes after Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Leeds United, during which the Portuguese coach launched a scathing attack on the club hierarchy in a tense post-match press conference, urging them to “do their jobs.”

Amorim, 40, departs Old Trafford after a turbulent 14-month spell marked by inconsistent results and growing internal tensions.

United are currently sixth in the Premier League table after 20 matches, falling short of expectations set at the start of the season.

Trump: Sheikh Gumi denies claims of US plot to eliminate him

0

Controversial Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has rejected reports alleging that the United States had earmarked him for elimination, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Gumi clarified that he never stated or implied that he was a target of any U.S. action within Nigeria. He explained that the reports arose from a misinterpretation of a lecture he delivered at a mosque.

According to the cleric, he was only recounting an incident from August 2012, when he was informed that members of the Boko Haram insurgent group had planned to assassinate him. He said those allegedly sent to carry out the attack died after an explosive detonated prematurely near his residence.

“I never said I was targeted by the U.S., nor did I ever consider such a possibility,” Gumi wrote.

He added that he is living peacefully in his home with his family, without fear, intimidation, or apprehension.

Gumi described the circulating reports as “fake news” and urged media organizations that published them to retract the stories and issue public apologies.

Presidency dismisses AI claim of Tinubu–Kagame Paris photo

0

The Presidency has rejected claims that a photograph showing President Bola Tinubu with Rwandan President Paul Kagame, shared on the President’s official social media accounts, was generated using artificial intelligence.

In a statement released on Monday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, described the allegation as false and a distortion of facts.

Ajayi explained that President Tinubu and President Kagame met in Paris on Sunday, January 4, where they had a private lunch before later joining French President Emmanuel Macron for dinner.

President Tinubu had earlier shared the photo on X with the caption: “This afternoon, I had a private lunch with H. E. President Paul Kagame of Rwanda to discuss the current state of world affairs and advancing Africa in an ever-changing global landscape.”

Following the post, some social media users questioned the authenticity of the image, claiming it was AI-generated. A community note on X also suggested that although the meeting reportedly took place in Paris, the image “appears to be AI-generated given the GrokAI badge.”

Responding to the controversy, Ajayi said, “The narrative that the picture of Presidents Bola Tinubu and Paul Kagame taken in Paris yesterday was AI-generated is not correct.”

He maintained that reports and comments suggesting otherwise misrepresented the facts, stressing that the photograph was genuine.

Ajayi explained that the image was taken with a mobile phone and was initially of poor quality, adding that the photographer later used Grok to enhance the picture.

“The picture is real and not AI-generated as claimed,” he said, noting that image enhancement should not be confused with image generation.

Reaffirming the authenticity of the engagement, Ajayi stated that both leaders met and had lunch together in Paris before dining with President Macron later that evening.

2027: Nobody will stop me from stopping Fubara’s re-election in Rivers — Wike

Wike Minister of FCT

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will not be deterred from working against the re-election bid of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, ahead of the 2027 general election.

Wike made the statement on Sunday during a visit to Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State, accusing Governor Fubara of twice reneging on agreements reached between them. He insisted that the errors made during the 2023 political crisis would not be repeated.

According to the former Rivers State governor, attempts by some individuals to issue him instructions would not be entertained, stressing that no one has the authority to direct him on matters concerning Rivers State.

“I heard people saying they will call me and give me instructions. Let me tell you, there is nothing like instruction as far as Rivers State is concerned. Nobody will call me,” Wike said.

He added that after two failed agreements, there was no basis for further negotiations. “You had the first agreement, somebody reneged. The second agreement, he reneged. Which call will you accept again? We will not make that mistake again,” he stated.

Wike maintained that his stance was not driven by personal interest, noting that he was comfortable in his current position as FCT minister. Rather, he said his concern was about the people of Rivers State and the state’s political standing.

Reflecting on his tenure as governor, Wike said Rivers State commanded national respect and even successfully challenged the Federal Government on certain issues. He also questioned why calls to defend electoral mandates only emerged after the opposition had weakened.

Nigerian Newssphere reports that tensions between Wike and Fubara have recently resurfaced following the governor’s moves toward seeking re-election in 2027.

Akpabio, others missing as Adebayo, Al-Makura receive remains of Akwashiki from India

The remains of Senator representing Nasarawa North, Godiya Akwashiki, arrived in Nigeria on Monday from India, where he passed on Wednesday last week.

Nigerian Newssphere reports on the acting National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Prof. Sadiq Gombe; the former presidential candidate of the party, Adewole Adebayo; the former governor of Nasarawa State, Umaru Al-Makura; the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Solid Minerals, Jonathan Gaza Gbefwi; Labaran Makun, a former minister of information; and other politicians.

Meanwhile, the Senate President, Godwill Akpabio, and other Senate leaders were conspicuously absent at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Cargo terminal in Abuja.

Speaking, Prof. Gombe said the passing of Senator Akwashiki is a great loss to the nation.

“It is a great loss not only to his constituents but also to the SDP and Nigeria at large.

“When asked why no sitting senator is available to receive the late senator, he said, “You know the senators are in recess. “We feel devastated for the family,” he added.

Also Prince Adebayo said, “Many people who know Senator Godiya Akwashiki will know that he is a great man. It is a great loss. He is lost and has a negative impact on the entire state. To us, we do not have many senators, so his death is a great loss.”

Nigerian Newssphere recalls that Senator Akwashiki died Wednesday at a hospital in India at 52 years old.

Church checkbook is never in our possession — Pastor Paul Enenche

0

Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr. Paul Enenche, has pushed back strongly against claims that he uses church funds to support his personal lifestyle, describing such assumptions as “mumutiousness of sense.”

Speaking during a sermon, Enenche said neither he nor his family has had access to the church’s checkbook since the ministry began. He stressed that proceeds from church materials, including CDs and books, are not used for personal needs.

“Some people will see a suit or a watch and say, ‘church money.’ That is mumutiousness of sense,” he said. “From day one till now, the church checkbook is not in our possession.”

The cleric explained that despite being the author of a devotional, he has never used proceeds from the publication or CDs sold in church to buy clothing or accessories. “Not one naira of it has been used to buy a tie or socks, how much more church is offering?” he stated.

Enenche added that God directly supplies his needs, insisting he has no attachment to material possessions. He disclosed that several items given to him as gifts, including shoes, have remained unused for years, while many others were given out.

“I gave about 200-and-something suits out in one day. Go, it’s enough,” he said.

He concluded by urging believers to abandon materialism and focus on spiritual realities. “Let’s stop living for things and start living for God and the kingdom. When you do, the things people are chasing will start chasing you,” he said.

NNPCL cuts petrol price again

0

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has once again reduced the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

Checks by a Nigerian Newssphere correspondent across parts of Abuja on Monday morning showed that NNPCL retail outlets have lowered the price of petrol to N815 per litre, down from N835.

The latest adjustment represents N20 reduction and has already taken effect at NNPCL filling stations in Wuse Zones 6 and 4, Keffi–Abuja Road, and along the Kubwa Expressway.

An official of NNPCL, who spoke to DAILY POST on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the new price regime was implemented on Sunday evening.

Despite the reduction, the N815 per litre price remains N79 higher than the N739 per litre currently sold at MRS filling stations backed by the Dangote Refinery nationwide.

Nigerian Newssphere recalls that on December 19, 2025, NNPCL slashed its petrol price by N80 to N835 per litre, following intense competition in the downstream oil sector sparked by Dangote Refinery’s decision to cut its gantry price to N699 per litre.
