Why are MTN, Glo, Airtel experiencing poor network problem in Nigeria- NCC

0
EVC NCC, Aminu Maida

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has acknowledged ongoing poor network quality challenges experienced by major telecommunications operators in the country, such as MTN Nigeria, Glo, and Airtel in Abuja and nationwide.

The Commission made this known in a statement by its Head of Public Affairs, Nnenna Ukoha, on Friday.

The Commission vowed to address the matter with immediate effect.

NCC explained that the disruptions stem from diesel supply issues impacting IHS Nigeria Limited—the colocation company powering several Airtel and MTN base stations in affected locations. Diesel shortages resulted from actions by the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which halted supplies and triggered outages at multiple telecom sites.

The NCC said it is working closely with stakeholders and service providers to restore stable network services, noting that reliable power is crucial for effective telecom operations. The Commission is also engaging relevant bodies to resolve the diesel supply bottlenecks and find long-term, sustainable solutions.

It appealed to all parties involved to cooperate and address the situation quickly to prevent further disruption to critical communication infrastructure.

Reaffirming its commitment to supporting a resilient telecom sector, the NCC said it has initiated dialogue between the affected operators and key stakeholders to ensure a swift resolution. The Commission promised to keep the public informed as efforts progress.

The NCC appreciated subscribers for their patience and assured them of its dedication to delivering quality telecommunications services nationwide.

I am 100% behind Tinubu – Lai Mohammed declares amid arrest of Chris Ngige

0

Lai Mohammed, former minister of information, says his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Bola Tinubu administration remains intact.

Delivering the 15th convocation lecture of Achievers University in Ondo state on Friday, the ex-minister said he deliberately chose to operate behind the scenes after years of being on the frontline of national politics.

“I am a very loyal member of the APC,” he said.

“I am 100% behind this administration. But I have played my role on the front line. Whatever I need to do now, I will pass it through the back channels.

This is coming hours after former Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige was arrested over allegations of financial misappropriation.

BREAKING: Supreme court sets aside Tinubu’s pardon, upholds death sentence for Maryam Sanda

0

The Supreme Court has nullified President Bola Tinubu’s decision to grant a pardon to Abuja housewife, Maryam Sanda, who was convicted in 2020 for the death of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello.

Sanda, originally sentenced to death by hanging, recently had her punishment reduced to 12 years’ imprisonment by President Tinubu on what the Presidency described as compassionate grounds.

However, in a split 4–1 judgment delivered on Friday, the Supreme Court affirmed the death sentence earlier upheld by the Court of Appeal in Abuja. The Appeal Court had maintained the ruling of the Federal Capital Territory High Court that convicted her.

The apex court dismissed Sanda’s appeal, resolving all issues against her. In the lead judgment, Justice Moore Adumein held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt and that the lower courts were right in affirming the conviction.

Former Anambra Governor, Ngige, remanded in Kuje Prison over alleged N2.2bn Fraud

0

A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of former Minister of Labour and Employment and ex-Governor of Anambra State, Chris Ngige, at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his bail application.

Justice Mariam Hassan issued the order on Friday after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Ngige on an eight-count charge bordering on alleged corruption involving N2.2 billion.

The court fixed Monday, December 15, for the hearing of the bail application.

During the proceedings, EFCC counsel Sylvanus Tahir requested a date for the commencement of trial and urged the court to remand the former governor in EFCC custody pending the bail hearing.

However, Ngige’s counsel objected, noting that the defendant had already been in EFCC detention for three days. He argued that Ngige is a well-known public figure who served in government until about 15 months ago and has no reason to evade trial. The defence further stated its readiness to meet any bail conditions, adding that the former minister was in poor health and required medical attention.

The Dangote Refinery has significantly reduced its ex-depot petrol price in a strategic move to gain a competitive edge over the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other fuel marketers across the country.

Data from Petroleumpriceng reviewed by Nigerian Newssphere  on Friday morning shows that the refinery’s ex-depot price has dropped to N699 per litre, down from N828 per litre—a sharp reduction of N129, or 15.58 percent.

This latest cut marks roughly the 20th price adjustment by the refinery this year and comes just weeks before the Christmas and New Year festive season.

The new price is being introduced shortly after NNPCL and other filling stations implemented at least two reductions within the past three weeks, bringing the pump price in Abuja to between N915 and N937 per litre.

In a petition dated October 13, 2025, signed by Bolaji Tunji, the minister’s special adviser on strategic communications and media relations, to the director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adelabu accused Ayodele of making false prophecies intended to malign his reputation after he rebuffed all efforts from the cleric, who allegedly demanded a huge sum of money and expensive spiritual items.

Most of his political and sports predictions tagged as prophecy have failed.

Nigerians without Tax ID face bank access restrictions from 2026- FG

0

The Federal Government has warned that taxable Nigerians who do not obtain a Tax Identification Number (TIN) or Tax ID may soon face difficulties accessing their bank accounts.

Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, disclosed this in an interview shared via his X account on Thursday.

According to him, beginning January 1, 2026, every taxable individual will be required to have a tax ID to operate a bank account in line with Section 4 of the Nigerian Tax Administration Act (NTAA). Although the requirement has existed since the Finance Act of 2020, the NTAA provides a clearer legal backing for full enforcement.

Oyedele clarified that the policy applies only to taxable persons—those who earn income from trade, business, or any form of economic activity. Students, dependents, and others without income are exempt.

He added that businesses and individuals who already have a TIN do not need to obtain a separate tax ID.

“Any taxable entity without a tax ID may have difficulty running their bank account in the near future,” he said.

The development has raised concerns among Nigerians over possible restrictions on accounts without a tax ID.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier signed new tax reform bills into law in June 2025, with implementation scheduled for January 2026.

Naira falls for fourth consecutive Day against US dollar

According to data from the Central Bank of Nigeria, the currency weakened further to N1,456.07 per dollar, compared to N1,455.38 traded on Wednesday. This reflects a day-to-day drop of 60 kobo and a cumulative decline of N4.21 over the past four trading days.

At the parallel (black) market, however, the Naira held steady at N1,490 per dollar, the same rate recorded on Wednesday.

The sustained pressure on the Naira comes despite a continued rise in Nigeria’s foreign reserves, which climbed to $45.41 billion as of November 10, 2025.

United States. Congressman Riley Moore said he is preparing a detailed report for President Donald Trump outlining a proposed partnership with the Nigerian government to address ongoing attacks against Christian communities in the country.

Moore disclosed this in a post on X on Thursday after concluding a visit to Nigeria, where he met with key government and religious leaders. His engagements included discussions with Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

During his visit to Benue State, Moore held meetings with Bishops Wilfred Anagbe and Isaac Dugu, as well as the Tor Tiv, and interacted with displaced Christian families who shared accounts of violent attacks in the Middle Belt allegedly carried out by armed groups.

The congressman said the testimonies he received underscore the urgency of coordinated international action.

“I am working on a report to @POTUS that will outline a path forward to work with the Nigerian government in a coordinated and cooperative manner to end the killing of innocent Christians in the Middle Belt and address the ongoing terrorist threat in the Northeast,” Moore wrote.

Recall that Moore said there are over 600,000 internally displaced persons in Benue state alone after his recent visit to Nigeria.
