Why are MTN, Glo, Airtel experiencing poor network problem in Nigeria- NCC

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has acknowledged ongoing poor network quality challenges experienced by major telecommunications operators in the country, such as MTN Nigeria, Glo, and Airtel in Abuja and nationwide.

The Commission made this known in a statement by its Head of Public Affairs, Nnenna Ukoha, on Friday.

The Commission vowed to address the matter with immediate effect.

NCC explained that the disruptions stem from diesel supply issues impacting IHS Nigeria Limited—the colocation company powering several Airtel and MTN base stations in affected locations. Diesel shortages resulted from actions by the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which halted supplies and triggered outages at multiple telecom sites.

The NCC said it is working closely with stakeholders and service providers to restore stable network services, noting that reliable power is crucial for effective telecom operations. The Commission is also engaging relevant bodies to resolve the diesel supply bottlenecks and find long-term, sustainable solutions.

It appealed to all parties involved to cooperate and address the situation quickly to prevent further disruption to critical communication infrastructure.

Reaffirming its commitment to supporting a resilient telecom sector, the NCC said it has initiated dialogue between the affected operators and key stakeholders to ensure a swift resolution. The Commission promised to keep the public informed as efforts progress.

The NCC appreciated subscribers for their patience and assured them of its dedication to delivering quality telecommunications services nationwide.
