Fulani herdsmen go nowhere, Nigerians must learn to coexist with them—Sheikh Gumi

0

Controversial Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has urged Nigerians to learn how to live peacefully with Fulani herdsmen, insisting that they are an integral part of the country.

Gumi made the call in a video shared on X, where he stated that Fulani herdsmen are Nigerians and cannot be driven out of the country.

According to the cleric, herdsmen are neighbors and should not be treated as enemies, stressing that no group has the right to expel another from Nigeria.

He warned that turning herdsmen into enemies could have grave consequences for the nation, noting that such actions could be exploited by real adversaries.

Gumi, a retired army officer, explained that neighbors often know one another’s strengths and weaknesses, making hostility dangerous.

“They are going nowhere. They are part of us, and we are part of them. We must learn to live together and should never become enemies,” he said.

He added, “Your real enemy will use your neighbor against you. Nobody knows your secrets more than your neighbor—when you go out and when you return. We should never allow herdsmen to become our enemies.”

His comments come amid growing calls for his arrest by the Nigerian government over his utterances.

Recall that United States recently launched airstrikes on terrorists in Northwest Nigeria.

Women cheat more than men—Toke Makinwa

0

Nigerian actress and media personality Toke Makinwa has stirred conversation after sharing her views on infidelity, claiming that women cheat more than men but are far more discreet about it.

Makinwa made the remarks during a recent episode of her Toke Moments podcast, where she discussed changing perceptions around cheating and relationships. According to her, infidelity is often framed as a male issue, despite women being equally capable of cheating.

She argued that cheating is easier for women compared to men, who often have to invest significant time, money, and effort. This realization, she said, has influenced her stance on infidelity, making it less of a dealbreaker for her, though not without conditions.

“Cheating is not a dealbreaker for me, but it comes with a caveat,” Makinwa said. “When I say this, some people think I am encouraging cheating. No. As I grow older, I realize that it is not just men who can cheat. Why are we making these men feel so special as if it is only them?”

The media personality added that women often refrain from cheating not because they lack the opportunity, but because of self-control.

“Do you know how easy it is for a woman to cheat? It is even easier for us,” she said. “Men will spend money, effort, and time to cheat, but we are the ones receiving. A woman not cheating is not because she cannot cheat; it is probably because she has strength.”

Makinwa concluded by insisting that while women may cheat more, they are typically better at concealing it, noting, “Women cheat more, but they know how to hide it.”

AFCON is better than European leagues – Chelle

0

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle insisted that the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, is better than European leagues in terms of quality.

Chelle spoke at his pre-match interview ahead of Nigeria’s AFCON group stage match against Tunisia on Saturday night.

“We’ve to create our own identity. I speak about Africa – I don’t speak about only one nation,” Chelle said.

“We’ve to create our identity, we’ve to do something about our tournaments, about this AFCON.

“For me, this AFCON is better than the league in Europe. This is very important. We’ve to continue to improve for all of the coaches in Africa.

“This is great. After that, when all of the coaches improve very well, we can try to go to Europe or the World.”

Over 150 passengers in pain as Air Peace aircraft grounded

0

Flight operations at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, were disrupted on Friday after a ground handling accident involving a newly acquired Air Peace Embraer 195-E2 aircraft left more than 150 passengers stranded.

The aircraft, with registration number 5N-BYH, was scheduled to operate Flight P47750 from Lagos to Accra when a luggage conveyor belt truck operated by the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) struck one of its engines while on the ground.

The incident occurred shortly after passengers had completed boarding. The impact caused visible damage to the aircraft’s thrust reverser cowling, a component of the engine casing, prompting an immediate safety inspection and the grounding of the plane.

Consequently, about 150 passengers were asked to disembark, resulting in delays and the cancellation of several scheduled flights.

A source disclosed that the aircraft was billed to operate nine flight sectors for the day, all of which were affected by the incident, forcing passengers to be rebooked or left stranded.

Beyond passenger inconvenience, the source noted that the accident carries major financial implications, as engine-related repairs are typically costly. He recalled that a similar cowling damage earlier in the year reportedly cost an airline about $3.5 million to fix.

No injuries were recorded, and investigations have commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Efforts to obtain comments from NAHCO’s Assistant General Manager for Corporate Communications, Mr Tayo Ajakaye, were unsuccessful as he was unavailable at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Mr Michael Achimugu, confirmed that the incident disrupted Air Peace’s Lagos–Accra service.

In a post on X, Achimugu explained that passengers had already boarded when the ground handling equipment struck the aircraft, damaging the engine cover and necessitating their deboarding.

He said the affected aircraft was scheduled to operate nine flight legs, meaning passengers booked on those services would inevitably face delays or cancellations.

According to him, Air Peace would face compensation claims, refund obligations and reputational backlash for a disruption that was not of its making, while also incurring significant foreign exchange costs to repair the damage.

Achimugu referenced a previous bird strike incident that reportedly cost the airline over $3 million to resolve, noting that it took nearly a month for a replacement engine cowling to arrive from the manufacturer.

He added that the damaged aircraft was one of Air Peace’s newly delivered E2 jets and had been fully booked until January 15, 2026, meaning future passengers scheduled on its operations would also be affected.

The NCAA spokesperson stressed that airlines often cite “technical” or “operational” reasons for disruptions rather than publicly attributing fault to service providers, even when the airline is not responsible.

He argued that poorly trained ground handling personnel should be held accountable for incidents that inflict heavy financial, technical and reputational losses on airlines.

Achimugu further disclosed that the NCAA is considering tougher regulatory measures, including stricter sanctions for service providers found culpable in similar incidents.

He urged passengers to be honestly informed about the true causes of flight disruptions and appealed for understanding from those affected, noting that while Air Peace has standby aircraft, they were already deployed to address other operational challenges and also have lower seating capacity than the damaged E2 jet.

“These behind-the-scenes realities often make airlines appear culpable when they are not,” he said.

US lawmaker confirms 12 Tomahawk missile strikes destroy terrorists in Nigeria

0

A United States lawmaker, Rep. Riley Moore, has confirmed that the US military launched about 12 Tomahawk missiles against terrorist targets in Sokoto State, Nigeria.

Nigerian Newssphere reports that the operation took place on Christmas night, with US forces working alongside Nigerian security agencies to neutralize terrorists responsible for attacks in parts of the country.

Initial reactions from some security analysts suggested the strikes may have missed their targets, claiming the missiles landed in areas without known terrorist hideouts. However, fresh details that emerged on Friday night indicated that several terrorists were killed during the joint operation involving the US and Nigerian militaries.

Speaking during an interview on Fox News on Friday, Rep. Moore, who represents Virginia’s Second District, described the operation as successful and aimed at curbing extremist violence in Nigeria.

“For the past two Christmases, Christians have been murdered in Nigeria,” Moore said. “This year, thanks to President Trump, radical Islamic terrorists were on the receiving end of 12 Tomahawk missiles as a present.

“The successful strikes on ISIS, in coordination with the Nigerian government, are just the first step to secure the country and end the slaughter of our brothers and sisters in Christ.”

2026 World Cup: FIFA rules on Nigeria’s appeal against DR Congo

0

World football governing body FIFA has reportedly thrown out Nigeria’s appeal challenging the eligibility of players fielded by the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), effectively ending the Super Eagles’ hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, DW Africa reports.

Nigeria had lodged a formal complaint following their dramatic defeat to the DRC in the CAF playoff final held in Rabat on November 16. The encounter ended 1–1 after regulation time, with Victor Osimhen putting the Super Eagles ahead before Cedric Bakambu drew the Congolese level. The DRC eventually triumphed 4–3 on penalties.

After the loss, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) protested the result, alleging that some DRC players, including Aaron Wan-Bissaka, violated FIFA’s dual-nationality eligibility rules.

However, according to reports, FIFA dismissed the petition, citing a lack of sufficient evidence to support Nigeria’s claims. The decision confirms the DRC’s qualification and brings an end to Nigeria’s campaign for a place at the 2026

Anywhere Wike goes, I go, Makinde is a ‘small boy’ in Nigerian politics—Fayose

0

Former Ekiti governor Ayodele Fayose reaffirmed his allegiance to Federal Capital Territory minister Nyesom Wike and dismissed Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde as inexperienced in the country’s political scene.

He accused Makinde of weakening the Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West.

In a TVC interview monitored by Nigerian Newssphere, Fayose said Makinde had grabbed prime plots across Oyo State, asserting that the governor “took over all the choice lands in the state” and pushed away many who backed his rise.

He added that “almost everybody who worked for his ascension has been driven away.”

Fayose went on to blame Makinde for dismantling the party’s foundations in the region, saying, “Makinde has destroyed all PDP structures in the South-West.”

He also questioned how the party ran its affairs in Osun, alleging that “a candidate who did not even obtain a PDP form eventually became the candidate.”Recalling a personal incident, Fayose accused Makinde of staging violence against him in Osun, claiming, “Makinde organized an attack on me in Osun,” and again labeled the Oyo governor “a small boy” politically.

Describing his own standing, Fayose called himself an “elder statesman,” stressing that he governed Ekiti without outside control: “I fought my governorship without a godfather,” he said.

He reiterated his loyalty to Wike— “I’m a Wike person. Anywhere Wike is, that is where I am.” — and vowed party fidelity: “I will never join the APC.”
