War: Canada officially reacts to US, Israeli military action against Iran

0

Canada has expressed support for the United States and Israel following the latest military action against Iran, as tensions escalate across the Middle East.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney made the country’s position known in an official statement addressing the unfolding conflict in the region.

The development comes after the United States and Israel launched coordinated military strikes on Iran. In response, the Iranian government carried out retaliatory attacks targeting US military bases in the Middle East, further heightening tensions and raising fears of a broader regional war.

Reacting to the situation, Carney reaffirmed Canada’s long-standing stance on Iran, describing the country as a destabilizing force in the region.

“Canada’s position remains clear: the Islamic Republic of Iran is the principal source of instability and terror throughout the Middle East, has one of the world’s worst human rights records, and must never be allowed to obtain or develop nuclear weapons.

Canada supports the United States acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and to prevent its regime from further threatening international peace and security,” the statement read in part.

Earlier reports indicated that the United Kingdom has also aligned with the US and Israel in the military action against Iran, signalling growing international involvement in the escalating conflict.

NSCDC: Tinubu ignores Tunji-Ojo’s opposition, approves tenure extension for Audi as CG

0

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a fresh five-year term, ignoring opposition by the country’s minister of interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the reappointment took effect from Friday, February 27, 2026.

Dr. Audi’s initial tenure, which began in 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, concluded last Friday.

Audi is expected to resume duties on Monday with a renewed mandate to strengthen the Corps’ operational capacity and national security role.

President Tinubu charged the NSCDC chief to reposition the service for greater impact, particularly as the Nigeria Police Force refocuses on its core mandate of protecting citizens from banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a new five-year term. The reappointment took effect from Friday, February 27”, the statement reads.

This comes amid reliable confirmation to DAILY POST that the Interior Minister, Tunji-Ojo, had opposed the reappointment of Audi.

War: Tension rises as UK joins US, Israel in military operations against Iran

0

The United Kingdom has formally aligned with the United States and Israel in the ongoing conflict involving Iran, escalating tensions across the Middle East.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer made the announcement in a nationwide broadcast on Saturday, confirming that British forces are actively participating in coordinated defensive operations.

“Our forces are active, and British planes are in the sky today as part of coordinated regional defensive operations to protect our people, our interests, and our allies,” Starmer said.

He called on Tehran to halt further aggression and abandon its weapons programmes, urging a return to diplomacy.

“Iran can end this now. They should restrain from further strikes. Give up their weapon programs and cease the appalling violence and repression against the Iranian people. This is the root to escalation and back to the negotiation table,” he added.

The development marks a significant expansion of the conflict, which has already drawn in the United States and Israel.

The situation intensified after US and Israeli forces reportedly launched strikes on Iranian targets. Iran responded with retaliatory attacks on US military bases across parts of the Middle East.

An Iranian missile was also reported to have struck areas in Israel, further heightening regional tensions. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has pledged to defend its sovereignty amid the escalating hostilities.

N100m gift: Seyi Tinubu finally speaks on VeryDarkMan, King Mitchy feud

0

Son of President Bola Tinubu, Seyi Tinubu, has dismissed allegations connecting him to the ongoing online dispute between controversial activist VeryDarkMan and content creator King Mitchy.

Nigerian Newssphere reports that King Mitchy recently renovated a public school within six days with financial support from Seyi Tinubu. She subsequently became involved in a heated online exchange with VeryDarkMan over allegations that she failed to properly account for public donations received since 2025.

Amid the controversy, VeryDarkMan accused Seyi Tinubu of sponsoring Mitchy’s charity work and further intensified the dispute. In a recent Instagram video, the activist also urged the public to hold both Seyi Tinubu and Mitchy responsible should anything happen to him.

Responding in a series of posts shared on his Instagram page, Seyi Tinubu described the claims and insinuations against him as “false,” stressing that his only interaction with King Mitchy occurred in a public setting where he provided financial support for her non-governmental organization.

“Over the past few days, my name has been deliberately drawn into an online dispute between VeryDarkMan (VDM) and King_Mitchy (‘Mitchy’),” he wrote.

“Let me be clear: the allegations and insinuations made about me are false.”

He explained that he met Mitchy once, alongside others, and offered financial assistance to support her NGO as part of his broader commitment to youth empowerment initiatives across Nigeria. According to him, a follow-up meeting was planned to review the impact of the donation but did not take place due to ill health.

“There has never been a private encounter, no secret arrangement, and no impropriety of any kind,” he stated.

Seyi Tinubu expressed concern that a feud he neither initiated nor participated in was being used to damage his reputation. He further alleged that VeryDarkMan “appears to have been looking for a trigger” to attack him and seized the situation as an opportunity.

“If my name generates attention, let us at least deal in facts. Supporting charitable causes is not a crime. Meeting someone publicly to support their NGO is not a scandal. Repeating falsehoods loudly does not transform them into truth,” he added.

He also condemned what he described as online bullying and harassment, warning that escalating attacks could have serious mental health implications.

“I will not be bullied, and I will not dignify fiction with panic,” he wrote. “No disagreement should descend into harassment that risks someone’s well-being or safety.”

Reaffirming his dedication to philanthropy, he noted that for over a decade, through his foundation and personal contributions, he has supported initiatives in education, enterprise, healthcare, and youth empowerment.

“Philanthropy and outreach must never be politicized or weaponized,” he said. “Nigeria needs builders, not bullies. We need responsible discourse, not sensationalism driven by speculation.”

He, however, firmly rejected the allegations and called for restraint, de-escalation, and a return to “truth and responsibility.”

“Noise will fade. Character and work endure. I remain committed to serving Nigerians, especially our youth, with integrity and transparency,” he concluded.

This comes amid alleged death rumors of King Mitchy.

However, Primecare Hospital dismissed claims that King Mitchy died in its hospital.

US, Israel bomb Iran as Trump confirms operation

0

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has announced that the United States, together with Israel, has commenced “major combat operations” against Iran.

Trump disclosed this in an eight-minute video address posted early Saturday on Truth Social.

“A short time ago, the United States military began major combat operations in Iran,” he said.

“Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime, a vicious group of very hard, terrible people.”

The US president accused Tehran of 47 years of sustained hostility toward America, referencing chants of “Death to America” and alleging campaigns of “bloodshed and mass murder” targeting American troops, bases, allies, and civilians globally.

He described the operation as defensive, saying it was a necessary move to neutralize threats arising from Iran’s “menacing activities.”

The announcement came after Israel earlier confirmed carrying out what it termed a “pre-emptive” strike aimed at removing threats to the State of Israel. Following the operation, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared a nationwide state of emergency.

Explosions were reported across central Tehran, with verified footage showing thick smoke rising over key government districts, including areas near the offices of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iranian state media reported multiple missile impacts in the Republic area and other parts of the capital, although official figures regarding casualties and the extent of damage have not yet been released.

US officials confirmed to several media outlets that American forces are actively participating in the joint operation, deploying air assets and potentially sea-based capabilities amid heightened military tensions in the region.

In Israel, major hospitals, including Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, Sheba Medical Center, and Rambam Health Care Campus, relocated patients to fortified underground units, discharged non-urgent cases, and prepared for possible mass casualties.

The national emergency service, Magen David Adom, also heightened coordination with military and health authorities.

Iranian airspace was shut down immediately amid indications that Tehran is preparing retaliatory action. An Iranian official warned of a “crushing” response, potentially involving missiles, drones, or allied forces operating across the region.

VDM, Seyi Tinubu clash: Nigerian Hospital speaks on King Mitchy’s Death

0

Primecare Hospital, Abuja, has dismissed reports circulating online alleging that popular content creator Mukoro Mitchelle, widely known as King Mitchy, died at its facility amid VeryDarkMan and Seyi Tinubu clash.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the hospital described the claim as false, clarifying that King Mitchy was neither admitted to nor treated at the hospital.

According to the management, the report linking her alleged death to its Abuja facility is entirely untrue.

“The management of Prime Care Hospitals wishes to inform the public that the announcement of the alleged death of Miss Mukoro Mitchelle, popularly known as King Mitchy, at our facility in Abuja is FALSE. King Mitchy was never a patient in our hospital and did not pass away here. We are working with authorities to investigate the source of this misinformation and will take all necessary legal actions against those responsible,” the statement read.

The clarification comes amid widespread rumors on social media claiming that King Mitchy had passed away.

In a recent video on VDM had reacted to claim that King Mitchy drunk sniper.

The development is unfolding against the backdrop of an ongoing controversy involving social media critic VeryDarkMan and Seyi Tinubu.

VeryDarkMan had recently alleged that Seyi Tinubu and King Mitchy were threatening his life. In an earlier claim, he also accused Seyi Tinubu of gifting King Mitchy N100 million to renovate a school within six days—an allegation she subsequently denied.

Simi: Where should justice begin?

0

By Olalekan Moyosore Lalude

Human justice is very prolix and yet at times quite mediocre; divine justice is more concise and needs no information from the prosecution, no legal papers, no interrogation of witnesses, but makes the guilty one his own informer and helps him with eternity’s memory.—Søren –Søren Kierkegaard

The last several weeks have seen an explosion of public conversations around sexual abuse, vulnerability, false accusations, and accountability that do not attend to privilege over Nigerian singer Simisola Bolatito Kosoko, known as Simi.

Social media greatly facilitated these conversations. In all of these, the vulnerability of children became a major concern, particularly in environments such as daycare settings. The environment of a daycare setting, which is an environment where trust is key, is often fragile.

Much of the reason for the heightened level of scrutiny for many of the daycares was due to the re-emergence of older X (formerly Twitter) postings made by Simi.

Netizens charged her with pedophilia, based upon two of her earlier postings, both from 2012 and 2013. At the time of those postings, Simi had been helping at her mother’s daycare facility while she continued to build her music career. The controversy not only sparked renewed discussion as to whether individuals should be held accountable for their actions online but also generated debate regarding the extent of the legal liability that may arise out of the actions of advocates, the degree to which advocacy and morality are consistent, and the extent to which an advocate must be truthful in order to lead successful public moral campaigns.

The backlash against Simi started when she publicly denounced rape in response to a claim by a TikTok user that they were raped, a claim later withdrawn as false. The vocal support from many people for her strong stance, which was in line with previous comments like ‘almost every woman I know has been sexually assaulted,’ gave rise to both positive reactions and negative reactions from others. Netizens criticized Simi for being too measured in how she responded to those urging her to equally condemn the false accusations of others; this led them to find some of her older social media posts that showed her to be lighter in tone than most would expect. Some of those older posts were about a four-year-old boy, David, at the day care where Simi worked, and he said he had a crush on her. The tweets were light-hearted, showing Simi playing with the children, including a four-year-old boy placing his head on her lap, or ‘bothering’ her in a playful manner, along with Simi musing about hugging, kissing, and cuddling kids. Many critics felt Simi was sexualising minors, with one tweet alleged to have joked about giving a boy child a ‘chance’ in a suggestive manner. Simi quickly jumped to defend herself on X, stating that during that time she posted freely about her life and saw children as ‘cute and lovable,’ with no intention of being perverse. In addition to defending herself, she stated that at the time she was not famous, so she did not feel the same pressure regarding how her words could be interpreted.

Under Nigerian law, determining Simi’s liability would involve reviewing the laws related to child sex crimes and internet activities. The Child Rights Act of 2003, which was derived from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, makes it an offense to commit any form of sexual abuse or exploitation of children; offenders can be imprisoned for no more than 14 years under section 32. The Act also enforces the principle of protecting the best interests of the child and restricts the creation, distribution, sale, display, delivery, movement, issuance, or possession of harmful publications likely to corrupt minors. Furthermore, the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015, specifically section 23, prohibits the production, distribution, transmission, selling, or possession of materials containing sexually explicit images or videos of a minor, whether real or simulated, with a maximum penalty of ten years imprisonment or a fine of N20 million. Similarly, section 24 of the Cybercrimes Act addresses cyberstalking and harassment and potentially could include online content that poses a risk to a child’s safety.

The Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act of 2015 provides additional protection for individuals who are victims of sexual offenses, including those who are groomed or solicited. In Simi’s case, however, there is no evidence of the specific content she posted being explicit pornographic content or any other type of evidence of a crime being committed. Experts may argue that her posts, although they were written in a manner that was later deemed to be tasteless and insensitive, are more akin to a joke and therefore lack the level of lascivious exhibition required by the Cybercrimes Act. As yet, no formal charges have been laid. Even though the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons has begun an investigation, it appears unlikely that Simi will face legal consequences for her posts, at least based on how these types of posts have been interpreted by lawyers.

The real issue here is a larger moral issue; it is easy to downplay or dismiss potential problems when they interfere with your own story, especially during campaigns to stop sexual assault. Simi is outspoken. She has talked about Nigeria’s widespread sex crimes, but, by downplaying her old posts as just being funny youthfulness, she will likely damage her credibility. There are critics who feel if rapists are to be held accountable for their actions without making excuses, then there is the need to apply the same level of accountability to any content that could normalize child sex abuse, even if it was unintentional. Disregarding these fears as ‘faceless mob’ is ignoring the very real fear of possible depraved behavior in child care. According to UNICEF, one in four girls and one in ten boys in Nigeria have experienced sexual violence. The selective outrage, therefore, creates a double standard on morality.

Engaging in a moral campaign means one has to be honest; Simi’s story teaches this. People who speak to the public about issues, such as Simi does with consent and protecting children, shape society by influencing what we think about those subjects. For someone to come right, they need to demonstrate consistency, which could also be about admitting when they were wrong in the past, publicly changing, and putting as much effort into developing themselves as they do into defending their opinions against others. The fact that Simi refuses to regret her tweets defends her honor but also prevents her from growing as an advocate. Advocacy requires transparency and not defense, especially in a country trying to address unreported abuse at daycares. If Simi can use her tweets as a catalyst to develop programs to educate people, she can turn criticism into development, which will help establish that true advocacy occurs because of genuine authenticity, not because of being perfect.

Simi’s experience shows how important it is to recognize that once information has gone online, it is permanent. In Nigeria, where new laws are being enacted to regulate and limit the negative effects of using technology, there needs to be accountability in actions as well as words. While Simi’s experience is not one of proven guilt, it is a reminder that while advocating against the sexual molestation of children, one cannot ignore one’s own shadow. As conversations regarding accountability for sexual abuse continue, Simi’s experience can lead to greater protections for children and women, which will allow moral campaigns to be both credible and effective.

Seyi Tinubu, King Mitchy are threatening my life- VeryDarkMan alleges [Video]

0

Popular Nigerian influencer and social critic VeryDarkMan has alleged that his life is being threatened, allegedly by Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.

VeryDarkMan made the allegation in a viral video posted on his Instagram page on Friday afternoon.

The development comes amid an ongoing feud between him and popular content creator King Mitchy.

DAILY POST reports that King Mitchy recently renovated a public school within six days with financial backing from Seyi Tinubu. However, she subsequently engaged in a public exchange with VeryDarkMan, accusing him of failing to account for donations he allegedly received from the public since 2025.

In reaction, VeryDarkMan criticized Seyi Tinubu for sponsoring King Mitchy’s charity project.

In a fresh video shared on Friday, the influencer urged Nigerians to hold both Seyi Tinubu and King Mitchy responsible should anything happen to him, alleging that threats had been made against his life.

“Nigerians, in respect to what’s going on now, they’re beginning to threaten my life. Seyi Tinubu and King Mitchy are threatening my life. Last night, this is the chat King Mitchy sent to Kokopee, my friend. And this is part of the chat. She said, ‘Hold VDM ooo. Either we talk on the phone and settle this, or the matter will get serious. Seyi just called me now to explain everything. Talk to VDM because what I hear just now, hmmm, makes me fearful. He said I should suck Seyi.

“Seyi will go far, ooo. Na me know wetin he tell me on the phone. Protect your bro. My life is being threatened. I just want to put it out there that if anything happens to me, it’s King Mitchy and Seyi. They both know what they’ve spoken on the phone, that King Mitchy is so scared that she wants to come and meet me so that we can quickly settle to appease Seyi because Seyi is so angry.

“Seyi Tinubu is so influential and powerful that he can command the IGP and DSS boss. Anything Seyi likes, he can do. I want Nigerians to know that it is because I’m speaking about the evil of this government that Seyi Tinubu is coming for me.

“A threat to my life has been issued. If anything should happen to me and my close ones, hold @seyitinubu and Mitchy responsible. THIS IS NOT A JOKE; I DON’T FEEL SAFE. Seyi Tinubu has the power and connections. I DON’T FEEL SAFE,” he said.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Seyi Tinubu nor King Mitchy has publicly responded to the allegations.

Popular Anambra native doctor, Okuko gets jail term, other punishments

0

A High Court in Anambra State has sentenced a popular native doctor, Mr. Chidozie Nwangwu, widely known as Akwa Okuko, to two years’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to multiple charges.

Nwangwu was arrested in February 2025 by operatives of the Agunechemba Security outfit over allegations bordering on aiding and abetting kidnapping and engaging in money rituals. He was apprehended alongside two other native doctors, Mr. Okocha, also known as Onyeze Jesus, and Mr. Ekene, popularly called Eke Hit.

The trio had been standing trial while remanded in the custody of the Agunechemba Security outfit. However, judgment was delivered on Friday by Justice Jude Obiorah after Nwangwu admitted guilt and entered into a plea bargain agreement with the Anambra State Government.

Delivering the judgment, Justice Obiorah stated that the defendant had earlier pleaded guilty to the charges and reached a plea bargain with the prosecution, a factor that influenced the court’s decision.

He explained that the two-year sentence on counts three, four, five, six, seven, and eight was handed down because the convict showed “reasonable remorse.” The judge, however, struck out counts one, two, and three of the charges.

Justice Obiorah noted that the conviction was based on provisions of both the Criminal Code and the Anambra Homeland Law.

He declared, “Under the law, anyone who claims to possess powers to heal or make one rich through certain magical means like Okeite is liable to two years imprisonment.

“Any person in the state who practices Okeite or ezenwanyi is liable to six years in prison.”

The court sentenced the native doctor to two years’ imprisonment on counts three, four, five, six, seven, and eight, ruling that the terms would run concurrently.

On counts one, five, and eight, the judge initially imposed a fine of N20 million each.

He said, “The total fine sums up to N60 million, but because of the remorse shown by the accused, the fine is now waived as such money in such a circumstance is not needed by the state.

“He has spent 13 months in detention already; the same will be computed into his sentence, so he will serve the 11 months of his sentence in Awka Correctional Centre, as against the plea by his counsel for him to serve in the Agunechemba facility. This is because the Agunechemba facility does not have correctional facilities.”

Beyond the custodial sentence, the court issued additional orders, which the judge described as measures of atonement.

According to Justice Obiorah: “The shrine of the defendant in Oba shall be destroyed; he shall, from the date of release, no longer practice Okeite and must make a public statement denouncing it. The statement shall be recorded in video.

“He will be made ambassador of youth reorientation and must make a public statement cautioning youths against seeking wealth through supernatural means.”

Judge withdraws from El-Rufai’s N1bn suit against ICPC

0

Justice Hussaini Belgore of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has stepped down from presiding over the fundamental human rights enforcement suit filed by former Kaduna StateGovernor Nasirr El-Rufai, citing his impending leave.

Following his withdrawal, the case file has been returned to the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court for reassignment to another judge.

El-Rufai had approached the court to challenge what he described as violations of his fundamental rights. The suit specifically references alleged actions by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), including a claimed unlawful invasion of his Abuja residence.

The case also involves other security and anti-graft agencies, such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS), in relation to ongoing legal matters concerning the former governor.

With Justice Belgore’s withdrawal, proceedings in the matter have been put on hold pending reassignment by the Chief Judge.
