Canada has expressed support for the United States and Israel following the latest military action against Iran, as tensions escalate across the Middle East.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney made the country’s position known in an official statement addressing the unfolding conflict in the region.
The development comes after the United States and Israel launched coordinated military strikes on Iran. In response, the Iranian government carried out retaliatory attacks targeting US military bases in the Middle East, further heightening tensions and raising fears of a broader regional war.
Reacting to the situation, Carney reaffirmed Canada’s long-standing stance on Iran, describing the country as a destabilizing force in the region.
“Canada’s position remains clear: the Islamic Republic of Iran is the principal source of instability and terror throughout the Middle East, has one of the world’s worst human rights records, and must never be allowed to obtain or develop nuclear weapons.
“Canada supports the United States acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and to prevent its regime from further threatening international peace and security,” the statement read in part.
Earlier reports indicated that the United Kingdom has also aligned with the US and Israel in the military action against Iran, signalling growing international involvement in the escalating conflict.
