NSCDC: Tinubu ignores Tunji-Ojo’s opposition, approves tenure extension for Audi as CG

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a fresh five-year term, ignoring opposition by the country’s minister of interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the reappointment took effect from Friday, February 27, 2026.

Dr. Audi’s initial tenure, which began in 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, concluded last Friday.

Audi is expected to resume duties on Monday with a renewed mandate to strengthen the Corps’ operational capacity and national security role.

President Tinubu charged the NSCDC chief to reposition the service for greater impact, particularly as the Nigeria Police Force refocuses on its core mandate of protecting citizens from banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a new five-year term. The reappointment took effect from Friday, February 27”, the statement reads.

This comes amid reliable confirmation to DAILY POST that the Interior Minister, Tunji-Ojo, had opposed the reappointment of Audi.
