President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed all political appointees in his administration seeking elective positions in the 2027 general elections to resign their posts on or before March 31, 2026.

The directive affects a broad category of officials, including ministers, ministers of state, special advisers, senior special assistants, special assistants, and personal aides, as well as directors-general and chief executives of federal parastatals, agencies, commissions, and government-owned enterprises.

The order was communicated through a circular issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, in line with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of party primaries for the 2027 elections.

The circular, signed by Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume and released by Permanent Secretary Ibrahim Kana, stated that the directive applies to all presidential appointees intending to contest elective offices.

It read in part:

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed all political appointees under his administration who intend to contest elective offices in the forthcoming 2027 general elections to resign their appointments on or before March 31, 2026. The directive is pursuant to the provisions of Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, as well as the timetable issued by the INEC for party primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“In a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, CON, which was issued by the Permanent Secretary General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, mni, the resignation requirement applies to all categories of presidential political appointees who wish to participate in the forthcoming party primaries or seek nomination for any elective office, including Honourable Ministers, Ministers of State, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, Personal Assistants, Directors-General, and Chief Executive Officers of Federal Government Parastatals, Agencies, Commissions, and Government-owned Companies, as well as all other political appointees of the President.

“Accordingly, all affected officials are required to submit their formal resignation letters through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation not later than March 31, 2026.”

Tinubu said the decision is aimed at ensuring compliance with electoral laws, promoting transparency, and guaranteeing a level playing field for all aspirants ahead of the polls.

“President Tinubu emphasized that the measure is necessary to ensure full compliance with electoral laws, uphold transparency in the political process, and promote a level playing field for all aspirants ahead of the elections.

“He urged all concerned officials to take note of this directive and ensure strict compliance, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and promoting credible electoral processes in Nigeria,” the circular added.

Among those affected are Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, who is eyeing the Oyo State governorship; Minister of Health and Social Welfare Muhammad Pate; Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, both linked to Bauchi politics; and Minister of State for Labour Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, who is reportedly planning a return to the National Assembly.

The development comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections following the release of the election timetable by INEC.

Nigeria’s electoral laws require political appointees seeking elective positions to step down before participating in party primaries, a provision designed to prevent abuse of office and ensure fairness in the electoral process.

Iran: ‘A Good thing’ – Trump finally reacts to US Director of Counterterrorism Kant’s resignation, revelation

0

United States President Donald Trump has reacted dismissively to the resignation of Joe Kent as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, describing his departure as “a good thing.”

Speaking on Tuesday at the Oval Office alongside visiting Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin, Trump said although Kent appeared “like a pretty nice guy,” he was “weak on security.”

“I didn’t know him well, but I thought he seemed like a pretty nice guy,” Trump told reporters. “It’s a good thing he’s out, because he said that Iran was not a threat.”

The President reiterated his position that Iran remains a global threat, insisting that “every country realized” this but questioning whether others were willing to act on it.

Trump also criticized the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) for failing to provide military support in the ongoing Iran conflict, accusing the alliance of not matching the United States’ contributions.

“NATO is making a very foolish mistake… This is a good test,” he said, adding that he had long questioned whether the alliance would come to America’s aid if needed.

In his resignation letter, Kent, a Gold Star veteran with multiple combat deployments, argued that Americans had been misled into believing Iran posed an imminent threat. He further alleged that Israel influenced Washington’s decision to strike Iran, drawing parallels to the U.S. involvement in the Iraq War.

Kent warned against deploying ground troops, stating his opposition to “sending the next generation to fight and die in a war that serves no benefit to the American people.”

Reacting, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed Kent’s remarks as “false claims,” particularly his assertion that Iran posed no immediate danger.

In a post on X, Leavitt defended the administration’s actions, stating that Trump authorized military deployment because Iran sponsors terrorism, has killed Americans, and continued to threaten the United States up to the launch of Operation Epic Fury

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced that FIFA has dismissed its petition against the Democratic Republic of Congo over a 2026 World Cup-related matter.

The confirmation came on Tuesday from the NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi.

Despite the ruling by FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee, the football body expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome and revealed plans to challenge the decision.

“We have received the decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee on our petition, but we are not satisfied with the decision, which rejected our petition,” Sanusi said.

“I want to assure Nigerians that the NFF has immediately commenced the process of appealing the decision.”

In a statement, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, said the declaration was made on behalf of the Federal Government by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The minister congratulated Muslims across the country on the successful completion of Ramadan, urging them to uphold the virtues of “love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice.”

Oba of Benin declares Tiktoker, Peller wanted

0

The Benin Traditional Council, led by His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, has declared social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja, popularly known as “Peller,” wanted over his alleged unauthorized entry into the sacred Benin Palace on March 6, 2026.

The council described the incident as a serious breach of protocol and a violation of the centuries-old traditions of the Benin Kingdom.

In a statement signed by its secretary, Frank Irabor, the council stressed that the palace serves as the spiritual and cultural seat of the Oba of Benin and is not a place for casual visits or content creation.

It condemned Peller’s visit, noting that his presence, alongside an entourage, caused embarrassment and disrupted the peace within the palace premises.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations have led to disciplinary actions against those involved. A chief linked to the incident has been suspended indefinitely, while a palace staff member, identified as Omuemu, has been arrested and charged for facilitating the unauthorized access.

The council also disclosed that a queen seen in the footage is currently undergoing disciplinary proceedings, which could result in her removal from the palace in line with Benin customs.

It added that Peller was earlier invited to appear before a committee of chiefs to explain his actions but failed to honor the invitation.

The council has now directed him to present himself immediately and tender a written apology, warning that failure to comply could result in legal action, with security agencies already notified.

Reaffirming its role, the council stated that it remains the custodian of the kingdom’s traditions and possesses the authority to address violations and prevent future occurrences.

The statement concluded with appreciation to the public for their continued support in preserving the dignity and sanctity of the Benin throne.

Following a preliminary investigation, disciplinary measures have been taken against those involved. A chief connected to the incident has been suspended indefinitely, while a palace staff member, identified as Omuemu, has been arrested and charged for aiding the unauthorized entry.

“Additionally, a queen featured in the footage is undergoing disciplinary proceedings, which could result in her removal from the palace in accordance with Benin customs.

“The council stated that Peller was invited to appear before a committee of chiefs to provide his account of events but failed to comply.

“The council has now demanded that he present himself immediately and issue a written apology. Failure to do so, the council warned, could lead to legal action, with law enforcement already informed and ready to act.

“The Benin Traditional Council remains the guardian of our age-old customs and traditions,” the statement read.

2027: Peter Obi meets Abubakar Malami in Abuja hours after DSS release

0

The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Tuesday paid a visit to former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami at his residence in Abuja.

The meeting took place just hours after Malami regained freedom from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), where he had been held for months.

While the purpose of the visit has not been officially disclosed, it is believed to be connected to Malami’s ongoing legal issues involving the DSS and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Malami was reportedly granted bail on Monday.

Meanwhile, a viral video circulating online showed the former Minister of Justice reuniting emotionally with his family following his release from detention.

US Counterterrorism director Joe Kant resigns, exposes Trump’s top secret over Iran war

0

Joe Kant, Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, has resigned from his position, citing opposition to the United States’ involvement in the escalating Iran conflict under President Donald Trump.

Kant announced his decision in a resignation letter shared on his official X account on Tuesday, stating that he could no longer support the ongoing war.

According to him, Iran does not pose any immediate threat to the United States, adding that the conflict was driven by external pressure.

“After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today (Tuesday).

“I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.

“I support the values and the foreign policies that you campaigned on in 2016, 2020, and 2024, which you enacted in your first term. Until June of 2025, you understood that the wars in the Middle East were a trap that robbed America of the precious lives of our patriots and depleted the wealth and prosperity of our nation.

“In your first administration, you understood better than any modern president how to decisively apply military power without getting us drawn into never-ending wars. You demonstrated this by killing Qasam Solamani and by defeating ISIS. Early in this administration, high-ranking Israeli officials and influential members of the American media deployed a misinformation campaign that wholly undermined your America First platform and sowed pro-war sentiments to encourage a war with Iran. This echo chamber was used to deceive you into believing that Iran posed an imminent threat to the United States and that should you strike now, there was a clear path to a swift victory. This was a lie and is the same tactic the Israelis used to draw us into the disastrous Iraq War that cost our nation the lives of thousands of our best men and women. We cannot make this mistake again.

“As a veteran who deployed to combat 11 times and as a Gold Star husband who lost my beloved wife Shannon in a war manufactured by Israel, I cannot support sending the next generation off to fight and die in a war that serves no benefit to the American people nor justifies the cost of American lives.

“I pray that you will reflect upon what we are doing in Iran and who we are doing it for.

“The time for bold action is now. You can reverse course and chart a new path for our nation, or you can allow us to slip further toward decline and chaos. You hold the cards.

“It was an honor to serve in your administration and to serve our great nation,” he wrote.

The resignation comes as tensions in the Middle East continue to rise, with the Iran-US-Israel conflict now stretching beyond two weeks.

The crisis has already impacted global markets, with crude oil prices climbing above $100 per barrel amid uncertainty in the Gulf region.

Meanwhile, European leaders have pushed back against calls by President Donald Trump to deploy troops to secure the Strait of Hormuz, further highlighting divisions among Western allies over the escalating situation.

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State has revealed that no fewer than 100 native doctors linked to criminal activities are currently on the run following an ongoing government crackdown.

Speaking on Tuesday after taking the oath of office for a second term, Soludo said the state had intensified its efforts against native doctors allegedly involved in fraudulent practices, adding that several shrines used for such activities have been demolished.

“Hundreds of these dangerous native doctors are on the run. Their massive shrines have been destroyed,” the governor stated.

He explained that the move is part of a broader campaign by his administration aimed at restoring ethical values and promoting cultural rebirth across the state.

The development follows earlier actions by the Anambra State Government, which declared a clampdown on native doctors accused of aiding criminal activities, particularly internet fraud.

Security operatives recently arrested a Nnewi-based native doctor, Ikechukwu John Paul, popularly known as Aka Mmuo. He was accused of conducting rituals for suspected internet fraudsters, commonly referred to as Yahoo Boys.

The suspect had pleaded for leniency after being paraded by operatives of the state security outfit, Agunechemba, at his shrine last week.

“I’m hale, hearty”—Nigerian gospel singer Deborah Fasoyin reacts to death rumor

Veteran Nigerian gospel singer Deborah Fasoyin, widely known for her classic song Odun n lo sopin, has dismissed reports circulating online claiming she is dead.

Reports of the Christ Apostolic Church singer’s alleged death went viral across social media and some media platforms on Monday, sparking concern among fans and followers.

However, the 86-year-old singer has refuted the claims, describing them as false and misleading.

In a video shared on social media, Fasoyin reassured the public that she is alive and in good health.

“Great day to you everybody, I’m happy to tell you that I’m hale and hearty, and what you’ve seen on Facebook is fake. I know that I will finish strong with supernatural sound health,” she said.

She further expressed confidence about her longevity and peaceful passing.

“I will go to my father in peace, not in sickness, not in pain. And I will die at a good old age just like my father, Abraham. Thank you very much,” she added.

UCL: Six players to exit Real Madrid

0

Real Madrid are preparing for a significant squad overhaul this summer, with up to six players reportedly set to leave the club.

According to BILD, the LaLiga giants are keen to reshape their squad ahead of next season as they aim to return to top form.

Austrian defender David Alaba is said to be leading the list of potential departures, with his contract due to expire in June and no renewal currently planned.

Fellow defenders Antonio Rudiger and Dani Carvajal are also expected to leave when their contracts run out at the end of the season.

One of the more surprising names linked with a move is midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. The 23-year-old has attracted interest from several European clubs, and Madrid could consider offers starting from €50 million (£43.2m).

In addition, full-backs Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia are reportedly not part of the club’s long-term plans, having fallen down the pecking order behind Alvaro Carreras.

The expected departures signal a major rebuild at the Santiago Bernabéu as Madrid look to strengthen their squad for the upcoming campaign.
