Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State has revealed that no fewer than 100 native doctors linked to criminal activities are currently on the run following an ongoing government crackdown.
Speaking on Tuesday after taking the oath of office for a second term, Soludo said the state had intensified its efforts against native doctors allegedly involved in fraudulent practices, adding that several shrines used for such activities have been demolished.
“Hundreds of these dangerous native doctors are on the run. Their massive shrines have been destroyed,” the governor stated.
He explained that the move is part of a broader campaign by his administration aimed at restoring ethical values and promoting cultural rebirth across the state.
The development follows earlier actions by the Anambra State Government, which declared a clampdown on native doctors accused of aiding criminal activities, particularly internet fraud.
Security operatives recently arrested a Nnewi-based native doctor, Ikechukwu John Paul, popularly known as Aka Mmuo. He was accused of conducting rituals for suspected internet fraudsters, commonly referred to as Yahoo Boys.
The suspect had pleaded for leniency after being paraded by operatives of the state security outfit, Agunechemba, at his shrine last week.
