Eid-ul-Fitr: Nigerian govt declares holidays

The Federal Government has announced Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.

In a statement, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, said the declaration was made on behalf of the Federal Government by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The minister congratulated Muslims across the country on the successful completion of Ramadan, urging them to uphold the virtues of “love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice.”

He also called on all Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for “peace, unity, and continued progress in the country.”

Tunji-Ojo further encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and “extend kindness to the less privileged during the festivities.”
