Insecurity: Crush all bandits, terrorists- CDS Orders Troops

0

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, has directed troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to scale up ongoing operations against bandits and other criminal elements in the Northwest, stressing that national security must be guaranteed at all costs.

Oluyede gave the charge during an operational visit to the headquarters of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in Gusau, Zamfara State, where he assessed the troops’ readiness and addressed operational challenges.

The visit, aimed at boosting morale and strengthening the ongoing campaign to restore peace in the region, saw the CDS commend the troops for their courage, resilience, and sacrifices in the fight against insecurity.

He urged them to remain disciplined, professional, and resolute in confronting banditry and terrorism, insisting that the protection of citizens remains the military’s top priority.

“The safety of our citizens is our responsibility. You must remain steadfast and pursue these criminals until they are eliminated. We must ensure Nigeria’s safety at all costs,” he said.

Oluyede assured the troops of sustained support through improved welfare, enhanced training, and the provision of necessary operational equipment to boost their effectiveness.

He reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal groups until lasting peace is achieved across the Northwest and the country at large, while also highlighting the critical role of air support and improved inter-agency coordination in ongoing operations.

During the visit, the CDS also paid a courtesy call on Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, appreciating his continued support for military operations and commending residents for their cooperation. He further urged citizens to sustain collaboration with security agencies, particularly through timely and credible intelligence sharing.

NCC, CBN sign agreement on consumer safety, inaugurate committees for protection against fraud

0

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that both organizations said would safeguard consumers against fraud while opening opportunities for them to leverage the potential of the telecommunications and financial sectors.

In a statement on Monday by NCC’s spokesperson, Nnenna Ukoha, the MoU was signed as NCC and CBN inaugurated a Joint Committee on Payment Systems and Consumer Protection and a Joint Committee on Telecoms Identity Risk Management System (TIRMS) Portal.

The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, said the MoU provides a structured framework for cooperation in critical areas, including payment system integrity, fraud mitigation, digital inclusion, and the protection of consumers and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, which he noted will translate into practical outcomes that strengthen trust, deepen inclusion, and support a secure and resilient digital economy.

Dr. Maida described the signing of the MoU as an important milestone in “the regulatory stewardship” of Nigeria’s digital economy, which reflects a shared commitment to collaboration in strengthening financial system stability, advancing digital inclusion, and protecting consumers in an increasingly interconnected ecosystem.

He said, “The Commission places significant importance on collaboration. Indeed, many of the critical milestones we have achieved in addressing some of our industry’s challenges—and even in leapfrogging our sector—have been made possible through strategic partnerships and sustained collaboration. Our collaboration with the Central Bank is not new.

“Over the years, our two institutions have demonstrated the value of close regulatory coordination. A notable and recent example is our collective effort in resolving the long-standing USSD debt impasse—an intervention that restored confidence, preserved service continuity, and safeguarded the interests of consumers, telecom operators, and financial institutions alike. That experience reaffirmed a simple truth: that complex, cross-sector challenges are best addressed through structured collaboration.

“This MoU provides a clear framework for cooperation in critical areas such as payment system integrity, consumer protection, fraud mitigation, and the responsible use of digital infrastructure. In particular, it supports initiatives that promote secure digital payments, enhance trust in mobile-enabled financial services, and extend safe access to underserved populations and MSMEs.

“For the NCC, this MoU speaks directly to one of the critical pillars of our strategic focus: leveraging cross-sectoral innovation to deliver a safe, resilient, inclusive, and trusted digital ecosystem. As mobile numbers increasingly underpin identity, authentication, and financial access, collaboration with the CBN is essential to ensuring that innovation is matched with strong governance, system stability, and consumer safeguards,” Dr. Maida declared.

The EVC explained that the collaboration is designed “for the prevention of electronic fraud, which has become increasingly pervasive, with significant implications for the integrity of our digital economy. Through the Telecom Identity Risk Management System (TIRMS) Portal—which aggregates data on churned (recycled) phone numbers, as well as numbers flagged within your sector—the financial services industry will now have enhanced visibility into the status of phone numbers, one of the most widely utilized resources in your sector, although regulated by the NCC.

“This means that the financial institutions will be able to determine when a line is active, when it has been swapped, when it has been disconnected due to inactivity and reassigned to a new subscriber, and when it has been flagged for suspicious or fraudulent activity. This ensures that our financial services industry is better equipped with timely and relevant information to effectively combat e-fraud, particularly those perpetuated using phone numbers, in the country.

“The second area I want to highlight is an overarching one that both our institutions have consistently championed: it is the protection of Nigerian consumers. With this handshake, consumers who experience issues such as airtime recharges that do not deliver value can be assured of prompt resolution within the shortest possible time. The establishment of a platform for sustained engagement, coordinated policy responses, and joint action as new risks and opportunities emerge across the digital and financial landscape by this MoU positions our two institutions to remain proactive, aligned, and effective in fulfilling our respective mandates,” the EVC stated.

CBN Governor Mr. Olayemi Cardoso described the MoU as one that will strengthen coordination on approvals, technical standards, and innovation trials, including sandbox testing that supports market-led solutions while safeguarding stability.

He said, “Going forward, the Central Bank of Nigeria remains fully committed to working with the Nigerian Communications Commission to deliver a safer, more resilient, and more inclusive digital financial system—one that supports national productivity, protects consumers, and strengthens trust in Nigeria’s digital economy.”

Mr. Cardoso subsequently inaugurated the Joint Committee on Payment Systems and Consumer Protection and the Joint Committee on Telecoms Identity Risk Management System (TIRMS) Portal, which he said would put the protection of consumers of both sectors from fraud at the forefront.

Security sources told DAILY POST that the attack occurred around 3:00 a.m. on April 20, 2026. Troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by local vigilantes, reportedly engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle that lasted until about 5:00 a.m.

2027: Peter Obi, Kwankwaso Supporters Merge Structures, Unveil ‘OK Movement’ to unseat Tinubu

0

Supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso have merged their political structures ahead of the 2027 presidential election, forming a new platform known as the OK Movement.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Justin Ijeh, who said the coalition is driven by the belief that national renewal requires collective effort across ethnic and political lines.

According to the statement, the movement aims to unite Nigerians across divisions to tackle economic hardship, address insecurity, and promote accountable leadership.

“Nigeria stands at a defining crossroads. Today, as our people endure the weight of unprecedented economic hardship, the soaring cost of living, and the persistent shadow of insecurity, the Obi–Kwankwaso (OK) Movement formally announces the unveiling of its national and state structures.

“This is more than a political milestone; it is the birth of a coordinated, nationwide engine for systemic reform and national rebirth.

“We recognize the exhaustion felt in every Nigerian household. From the farmer unable to harvest in safety to the entrepreneur stifled by a volatile economy, the struggle is real. Yet, in this moment of darkness, the OK Movement stands as a beacon of resolute hope.

“Our mission is anchored in a singular, unwavering conviction: Nigeria will be OK. We do not offer mere rhetoric; we offer a structured, disciplined pathway towards a country that works, not for the few but for every citizen.”

The group also rejected what it described as divisive politics rooted in ethnicity, religion, and regional interests, insisting that unity remains key to national progress.

“The OK Movement is a home for all well-meaning Nigerians. We reject the tired politics of tribalism, regionalism, and religious sentiment that have long been used to keep our people divided while the nation falters.

“Our strength lies in our diversity, and our progress depends on our unity. We are mobilizing from the grassroots to the capital, fostering a shared identity built on integrity, competence, and the collective responsibility to rescue our future. We believe that national renewal is not the task of a single tribe but the duty of a united people.”

The statement further noted that the movement draws inspiration from the Nigerian national anthem, describing its vision as one focused on justice, peace, and shared prosperity.

“This is not merely a lyric; it is our blueprint. We seek to build a Nigeria where justice is a right, not a privilege; a nation where ‘plenty’ is shared through economic stability; and ‘peace’ is secured through decisive leadership.

“This is an open invitation to every Nigerian who believes that our current reality need not be our final destiny.

“Through solidarity, purposeful leadership, and the courage to demand better, we will prevail. The structures are set. The vision is clear. The movement is here. Together, we will make Nigeria OK.”

This comes amid heightened speculation on the Obi and Kwankwaso ticket ahead of ADC primaries.

Recall that Peter Obi visited Kano State with massive support from Kwankwaso’s supporters.

Entice Igbo youths with NNPCL, CBN jobs, not army—Ejimakor to Nigerian govt

0

Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has urged the Nigerian government to pass through the effort used to entice Igbo youths to join the Nigerian army and the government’s institutions such as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and the Central Bank of Nigeria.

In a post on X Sunday, Ejimakor alleged that Igbo youths continue to face systemic exclusion from key federal institutions in Nigeria.

He stressed that efforts to encourage reluctant Igbo youths to join the Nigerian Army should be extended to agencies, key federal agencies, which he claimed have “hardly recruited Igbos since the end of the war in 1970.”

He further referenced historical political tensions, asserting that “a government was violently overthrown in 1975 for appointing an Igbo as NNPC GM,” and added that “Igbos have institutional memory of the official redlines drawn against them in Nigeria.”

DAILY POST reports that the Nigerian Army had urged Igbo people not to shun the recruitment exercise.

EPL: It’s ridiculous you removed Arsenal’s best player Eze-Morgan slams Arteta on defeat to Man City

0

British broadcaster Piers Morgan has criticized Mikel Arteta for substituting Eberechi Eze during Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in their Premier League clash on Sunday.

The match at the Etihad Stadium saw Erling Haaland net the decisive goal in the second half to seal victory for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Arteta, however, drew criticism after replacing Eze—widely regarded as Arsenal’s standout performer—with Leandro Trossard in the 75th minute.

Reacting on X, Morgan questioned the decision, writing, “Eze off???? That’s ridiculous; he’s been our best player.”

The result leaves Arsenal three points behind Manchester City in the league standings, although the reigning champions still have a game in hand.

Mass Shooting: Worst Tragedy in History—US Mayor on killing of Eight Children

0

The mayor of a northwestern Louisiana city in the United States has described the killing of eight children in a mass shooting across two homes as possibly the most devastating tragedy the community has ever faced.

Tom Arceneaux made the statement on Sunday while reacting to the incident, according to the Associated Press.

Authorities in Shreveport confirmed that a gunman killed eight children in what investigators have classified as a domestic-related shooting.

A police spokesperson, Chris Bordelon, disclosed that 10 individuals, ranging in age from one to about 14 years old, were shot during the attack.

Bordelon added that the suspect later died after a police chase, during which officers opened fire. The gunman had allegedly stolen a vehicle while fleeing before being pursued by law enforcement.

While officials have yet to release the suspect’s identity, they confirmed he was an adult male.

Investigators said multiple locations connected to the shootings are being examined, including two homes and a third site located south of downtown Shreveport. Some of the victims are believed to have been related to the suspect.

“This is an extensive scene unlike anything most of us have ever seen,” Bordelon said.

At a press briefing outside one of the affected homes, officials appeared visibly shaken as they urged the public for patience and prayers while efforts continue to piece together the full circumstances.

“I just don’t know what to say; my heart is just taken aback,” said Wayne Smith. “I cannot begin to imagine how such an event could occur.”

Reacting further, Arceneaux said, “This is a tragic situation — maybe the worst tragic situation we’ve ever had. It’s a terrible morning.”
