Armed bandits in the early hours of Monday launched a deadly attack on Kemanji village in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, leaving scores of residents and some soldiers dead.
Security sources told DAILY POST that the attack occurred around 3:00 a.m. on April 20, 2026. Troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by local vigilantes, reportedly engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle that lasted until about 5:00 a.m.
While the exact casualty figure remains unclear, sources confirmed that several soldiers were among those killed during the confrontation. The full extent of destruction caused by the нападение had yet to be determined as of press time.
The latest violence follows recent raids by bandits on Woro and Nuku communities, also in Kaiama LGA, where many residents were killed, houses set ablaze, and more than 100 people abducted, with victims still in captivity.
In a related development, suspected bandits on Sunday night attacked Ora Ayegbaju in Obbo-Ile, Ekiti Local Government Area, Kwara State. Three brothers—AbdulJareem Adamu, AbdulJareem Yunusa, and AbdulJareem Yusuf—sustained severe injuries during the attack, which occurred around 10:00 p.m., forcing other residents to flee.
The injured victims are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Osi town.
As of Monday, authorities had yet to issue official statements on the two incidents.
