0

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says troops deployed across various theatres of operation have killed scores of terrorists, rescued more than 170 kidnapped victims, and foiled oil theft valued at N241.2 million.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, made this known in a summary of military operations between July 10 and July 22, on Friday in Abuja.

In the North East, Kangye said the troops of Operation HADIN KAI conducted several offensive operations at Goniri, Madaganari, Amuda, Chenene, Tokumbere, and Lambawa-Kalari in Borno and Adamawa States.

He said that 13 terrorists were apprehended and three kidnapped victims rescued, while nine suspected collaborators were also apprehended during intelligence-led operations.

According to him, a large number of terrorists, along with their families, surrendered to troops as pressure mounted across the theatre.

In the North West, Kangye said the troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA conducted clearance operations in Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, Kano, and Niger States.

He said that the operations led to the rescue of 106 kidnapped victims in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara.

According to him, an additional 32 victims, including 27 women and five children, were released to a team from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) as part of non-kinetic engagements.

“Six terrorists were arrested during the operations with cache of weapons and ammunition also recovered.

“Security agencies also apprehended a notorious terrorist identified as Muhammadu Hamisu (alias Mamiyo) and five others during joint operations with the Department of State Services (DSS) in Zamfara and Sokoto States.

“Recovered items included arms, illicit drugs, motorcycles, and the sum of N192,300,” he said.

Uzodinma, Otti supremacy: Ex-NALDA boss backs additional state creation in South-East

0

Immediate-past Executive Secretary of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), Prince Paul Ikonne, has backed additional state creation in the south-east region of Nigeria.

He made this known in a statement released Thursday in Abuja by his media aide, Chiagoziem Enoch.

His stances come amid the separate views held by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma and Abia State Governor Alex Otti during the hearing on the 1999 Constitution review, held in Owerri on July 19th, 2025.

Uzodinma had backed additional state creation against his Abia State counterpart, Otti, who hinted that Nigeria does not need extra states since existing ones lack economic viability.

Reacting, Ikonne said, “But for those who know the Abia governor, that occasion afforded him the golden opportunity to express his deep resentment and vendetta against a section of Abia who must not be allowed the casual luxury of an innocuous boast of being the indigenes of Aba.”

He further stressed that the clear marginalisation of Ndi Igbo has continually provided the canvas upon which the agitation for a sovereign nation for Ndi Igbo has rested.

“It is therefore worrisome that Gov. Otti, who should be in the frontline with the likes of Senator Uzodinma in leading the agitation for the creation of an additional state for Abia to address this abnormality, is the one leading the gang to frustrate the actualisation of an additional state for the South East,” he stated.

The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited, NIGCOMSAT Ltd., said nothing should stop Nigeria from reaching space.

The managing director and chief executive officer of NIGCOMSAT, Mrs. Jane Egerton-Idehen, disclosed this on Wednesday, insisting that there is no reason Nigeria cannot reach space when other nations have attained that feat.

Nigerian Newssphere reports that NIGCOMSAT has cried out over concerns such as the decade-long recruitment freeze, which has inevitably impacted innovation and operational capacity.

Other pressing matters highlighted include a shortage of critical technical personnel, the need for support in the rollout and execution of Project 774, and issues surrounding inadequate remuneration as some critical factors.

Receiving the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, Rafiu Adeladan, at the Ground Control Station located along Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Way, Abuja, on Wednesday, Egerton-Idehen said, “If other nations can reach space, there is no reason Nigeria cannot, she emphasised. Land grabbing scandal: Suspend Wike like you did to Betta Edu—Timi Frank tells Tinubu

0

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has expressed deep concerns over the disturbing allegations of land grabbing, corruption, and gross abuse of office by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the deafening silence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the issue.

Frank, in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, said the allegations by Senator Ireti Kingibe have brought to light a series of atrocities and impunity being allegedly perpetrated under the leadership of the FCT Minister.

According to him, Wike’s alleged illegal allocation of lands to his family members, cronies, and political associates at the expense of genuine applicants “is a national scandal that demands urgent intervention.”

This comes as reports allege that Wike dishes out land on a daily basis to friends, family, and associates, while ordinary citizens and investors with genuine needs for both personal and commercial purposes are sidelined.

Reacting, Timi Frank said, “This blatant disregard for the rule of law will discourage local and foreign investors, leading to economic setbacks for the FCT and Nigeria as a whole.”

He condemned the seeming silence of President Tinubu and anti-corruption agencies on the matter.

Frank asked Tinubu to suspend Wike the same way he did to Beta Edu, former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

He said, “Mr. President, let me remind you that former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Betta Edu’s case was not as grievous compared to what Wike has done, yet you suspended her and sacked her,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, has dismissed claims that he allocated plots to his family members and other allegations.
