The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited, NIGCOMSAT Ltd., said nothing should stop Nigeria from reaching space.
The managing director and chief executive officer of NIGCOMSAT, Mrs. Jane Egerton-Idehen, disclosed this on Wednesday, insisting that there is no reason Nigeria cannot reach space when other nations have attained that feat.
Nigerian Newssphere reports that NIGCOMSAT has cried out over concerns such as the decade-long recruitment freeze, which has inevitably impacted innovation and operational capacity.
Other pressing matters highlighted include a shortage of critical technical personnel, the need for support in the rollout and execution of Project 774, and issues surrounding inadequate remuneration as some critical factors.
Receiving the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, Rafiu Adeladan, at the Ground Control Station located along Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Way, Abuja, on Wednesday, Egerton-Idehen said, “If other nations can reach space, there is no reason Nigeria cannot, she emphasised. NIGCOMSAT stands ready to lead that charge.
She urged the ministry to prioritise Project 774 and address structural challenges affecting the agency’s growth and efficiency.
On his part, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Adeladan, noted that “The Ministry regards NIGCOMSAT not merely as an implementing agency, but as a strategic partner in realising Nigeria’s aspirations in space technology, broadband access, and digital sovereignty.”
