Christian genocide: US has got what they wanted in Nigeria—David Hundeyin on Trump, Moore

Investigative journalist David Hundeyin has claimed that the United States has finally achieved its long-standing objective of establishing a military base in Nigeria.

Hundeyin made the assertion in a post on his X account on Saturday while reacting to comments by a United States lawmaker representing West Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District.

The lawmaker, Moore, had issued a clarification following claims that he was pushing a US agenda to secretly divide Nigeria under the guise of alleged “Christian genocide” in the country.

In his statement, Moore reaffirmed his commitment to protecting Christians in Nigeria, noting that the United States and Nigeria had recently entered into a security cooperation agreement. He described the pact as a significant step toward addressing violence in the country.

Responding, Hundeyin argued that Moore’s remarks supported his long-held position that the US had obtained what it wanted from the Nigerian government.

According to him, the key message was contained in the final part of Moore’s statement.

“The last paragraph is the real point of the five paragraphs of waffle,” Hundeyin wrote. “They have finally got their long-desired US military base in Nigeria, so job done.”

Nigerian Newssphere reports that the head of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), Dagvin Anderson, recently confirmed the deployment of US troops to Nigeria.

However, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, clarified that the American troops in the country are not engaged in combat operations.

Relations between Nigeria and the United States had earlier deteriorated after US President Donald Trump, in October 2025, designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern.

In December, Trump also announced that the US military carried out a strike on a terrorist enclave in Sokoto State, Northwest Nigeria.

In recent weeks, however, diplomatic ties between both countries have improved, with Nigeria and the United States strengthening military cooperation and strategic partnerships.
