President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law the 2026 Appropriation Bill, approving a total expenditure of N68.32 trillion for the fiscal year.

The president also assented to an amendment extending the implementation of the capital component of the 2025 budget from March 31, 2026, to June 30, 2026.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the 2026 budget allocates N4.799 trillion for statutory transfers and N15.8 trillion for debt servicing. Recurrent expenditure is projected at N15.4 trillion, while N32.2 trillion has been set aside for capital projects under the Development Fund.

The administration noted that capital expenditure accounts for nearly 50 percent of the budget, reflecting a strong focus on infrastructure development, national security, economic stability, and inclusive growth.

It added that the spending framework balances statutory obligations, debt commitments, and investments aimed at boosting productivity and improving citizens’ welfare.

On the extension of the 2025 budget, the government said the move would allow for the effective utilization of funds, particularly for ongoing infrastructure and development projects nearing completion nationwide.

The extension is also expected to enable Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to consolidate projects, improve completion rates, and ensure value for public spending.

With the 2026 budget taking effect from April 1, the federal government is set to begin full implementation in line with its Renewed Hope Agenda.

President Tinubu directed MDAs to ensure prudent, transparent, and efficient use of funds, stressing the need for accountability and timely project delivery.

He also commended the National Assembly for its swift consideration and passage of the budget, reaffirming the importance of continued cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government.

The President further assured Nigerians of his administration’s commitment to deepening fiscal reforms, boosting revenue generation, and prioritizing investments that will drive economic growth, job creation, and enhanced social protection.

2027: Not my fault You can’t read, attended school two years before establishment—Atiku slams Tinubu

Tinubu and Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of hypocrisy, distorting history, and acting out of political desperation.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described Tinubu’s recent comments as a “reckless tirade” that reveals “a troubling pattern of hypocrisy and historical amnesia.”

The response follows earlier remarks by Tinubu, who criticized Atiku over his credentials and his role in managing Nigeria’s economy while serving as vice president.

Reacting, Atiku said it was surprising that a president who has faced repeated scrutiny over his own academic records would attempt to discredit others with what he called well-documented public service histories.

“Atiku Abubakar’s attention has been drawn to the latest reckless tirade by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—a performance that exposes not just desperation, but a troubling pattern of hypocrisy and historical amnesia,” the statement read.

On the issue of privatization, Atiku’s camp argued that Tinubu’s criticisms do not hold up under scrutiny, noting that the president had previously opposed reforms he now appears to be implementing.

According to the statement, Atiku had long supported the privatization of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and the sale of refineries to credible private investors—positions Tinubu allegedly resisted at the time.

However, it claimed the current administration is now overseeing a system that has effectively commercialized the national oil company “in opacity—without clear valuation, without transparency, and with lingering questions about who truly benefits.”

“This is not reform; it is privatization without accountability,” Atiku stated.

“It is not our fault that the president does not and cannot read, because Bola Tinubu has a history of attending a school in Lagos two years before it was founded, upon which he claimed his crooked Chicago State University degree.

“If he were properly educated, he would have acquainted himself with the privatization records in the presidency or the painstaking account of these reforms as captured by Mallam Nasir El-Rufai in The Accidental Public Servant, where the privatization program was clearly documented as a bold and structured effort to dismantle inefficiency and drive private sector-led growth.”

The statement further maintained that Tinubu’s remarks reflect ignorance of facts already documented in public records and credible accounts.

“You cannot oppose reform when it demands courage and then execute a shadow version of it in power,” it added.

UCL, EPL: Vieira makes fresh predictions

0

Former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira has delivered a strong verdict on the ongoing title races in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

Vieira predicted that Arsenal will edge out Manchester City to win the Premier League and also progress to the final of the UEFA Champions League this season.

The Frenchman said Arsenal has the momentum heading into a crucial weekend clash against City, while also preparing for a Champions League semi-final showdown with Atletico Madrid later this month.

“I believe there is enough in that Arsenal team to go to the final of the Champions League and even win the Premier League,” Vieira told CBS Sports.

“They just need some really important players to drive the team. I think Gabriel Magalhães can be one of those players, and Declan Rice can be another.”

Vieira’s comments come as Mikel Arteta’s side continues its push for major honors on both domestic and European fronts.

President Tinbu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that he will not be deterred by pressure or intimidation in his efforts to deliver on his vision for Nigeria.

The president made this known while addressing the 36 state coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA) during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He charged the coordinators to uphold integrity and work collectively toward rebuilding the country, stressing the importance of inspiring hope among Nigerians, particularly among those entrusted with advancing his administration’s agenda.

“You must give them that hope, but try as much as possible, men and women of integrity that are here in this room, to build a Nigeria,” Tinubu said.

Dismissing any suggestion that he could be frightened or forced to retreat, the president reaffirmed his resilience.

“Me? They want to scare me off? It’s a lie. I am Jagaban. I have been through this path before, and if I have to come back over and over again, I will do the same thing,” he declared.

Tinubu also emphasized that Nigeria remains the best place for its citizens, urging a shared sense of responsibility in shaping the nation’s future.

“There’s no better place than your own country, and no one can build it except you,” he added.

This administration will come to end—Gov Makinde finally speaks on impeachment

0

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Thursday reacted to rumors suggesting plans to impeach him, downplaying the speculation with a lighthearted remark.

Reports had earlier claimed that the speculation began on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, alleging that former Oyo State First Lady Florence Ajimobi held a meeting with the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adebowale Ogundoyin, over a purported plan to remove the governor.

Speaking during the inauguration of key committees set up to drive the state’s long-term tourism development and preparations for the 2026 International Tourism Summit, Makinde brushed off the claims.

“This administration will come to an end in one year and one month. So what will happen next? Well, that is if I am not impeached then…” he said jokingly.

The governor reiterated his commitment to governance, noting that his administration remains focused on development initiatives.

He announced the inauguration of two committees—the Organizing Committee for the International Tourism Summit Oyo State 2026, scheduled to be held from May 12 to 14, and the 25-Year Tourism Master Plan Committee.

According to him, the long-term committee is tasked with developing a framework that will guide investment decisions and sustain tourism growth beyond his administration.

Makinde urged members of both committees to dedicate themselves to the assignments, stressing that their work is crucial to advancing the state’s development and benefiting the people of Oyo State.

JAMB: Outrage in Ibadan as UTME candidate barred

Tension flared in Ibadan on Thursday after a candidate sitting for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) was initially denied entry into an examination center for wearing a hijab.

The incident occurred early in the day at the Esther Oshinkoya Computer-Based Test Centre located along Eleyele Road, where the nationwide examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) commenced.

Eyewitnesses said the candidate was stopped at the gate by an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), who allegedly insisted that she remove her hijab before being allowed to enter the premises.

The directive sparked a heated exchange between the candidate’s parents and officials at the center, with some describing the order as a violation of the student’s constitutional right to freedom of religion.

The situation reportedly caused brief disruption at the venue before calm was restored following the intervention of stakeholders.

A parent, who spoke anonymously, condemned the action, alleging that candidates wearing hijab were being compelled to remove it before sitting for the examination, contrary to JAMB’s guidelines.

However, JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, Fabian Benjamin, confirmed that the board had swiftly stepped in to address the issue. He stated that the candidate had been allowed to take the examination and that the officer involved had been cautioned.

Benjamin emphasized that JAMB does not tolerate discrimination, noting that candidates are permitted to dress in accordance with their religious beliefs without facing harassment.

He described the incident as a regrettable breach of protocol and suggested that directives may not have been properly communicated to some field officers.

President Tinbu

Tension in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, over an alleged plan by Boko Haram and ISWAP to bomb Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The development was contained in a viral internal security memo reportedly circulated within the Nigerian Customs, according to the Associated Press.

Other targeted facilities are the correctional facility in Abuja and a military detention center in neighboring Niger State.

The memo, dated April 13, indicated that the objective of the alleged attacks is to breach secured facilities, free detained insurgents, and inflict damage on critical national infrastructure, particularly aviation assets.

Security analysis in the document drew comparisons with recent coordinated militant attacks in Niger Republic, where air force installations were targeted in cities such as Niamey and Tahoua.

Recall that recently the US embassy announced the closure of its Abuja facility over heightened cases of insecurity, especially in Northern Nigeria.

Earlier in March, ISWAP attacked a military base in Borno, leading to the death of a brigadier general.

Also, a terrorist bomb killed over 50 persons in Borno.

However, the Nigerian military said it has succeeded in the latest onslaught against terrorists.

BREAKING: World Athletics rejects Favour Ofili’s switch to Turkey from Nigeria

0

The world athletics governing body, World Athletics, has turned down a request by Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili to change her sporting nationality to Turkey.

The decision deals a major setback to Ofili’s ambition to compete for the European nation at the 2028 Olympic Games.

In a document released on Thursday, the World Athletics Nationality Review Panel said it declined the application submitted by the Türkiye Athletics Federation after examining the details of the case.

According to the panel, approving the request would conflict with key rules and principles that guide athlete nationality transfers in international athletics.

“The application by the TAF for Favour Ofili (the ‘athlete’) to transfer allegiance from NGR to TUR is not approved,” the panel stated.

The review panel comprised Donna Raynor, Cydonie Motherskill, and Susanne van Waert.
