Money Laundering: EFCC Investigated Jerry Eze for Six Months- Olukoyede reveals outcome

0

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has revealed that the agency investigated Jerry Eze, lead pastor of Streams of Joy International, for six months over alleged money laundering but found no evidence of wrongdoing.

Olukoyede made the disclosure during the Jerry Eze Foundation Business Grant Award held in Abuja, noting that the investigation was triggered by intelligence reports and petitions received by the commission.

According to him, the probe focused on financial transactions involving foreign inflows from multiple countries, including Colombia, the United States, Sri Lanka, and Togo.

“There was an account where dollars and pounds were dropping like raindrops,” Olukoyede said, adding that despite the volume and pattern of transactions, the EFCC found nothing suspicious after a thorough investigation.

The EFCC boss used the opportunity to express concern over rising cases of fraud involving some religious leaders, revealing that several clerics are currently under investigation or have been convicted for financial crimes.

“Sometimes I wish we would change the words ‘church’ and ‘mosque’ and instead describe them as assemblies of righteous people,” he said, lamenting that both Christian and Islamic leaders have been implicated in fraudulent activities.

He, however, maintained that the case involving Pastor Eze ended without any adverse findings, effectively clearing him of the allegations.

Court bars INEC from recognizing ADC

0

The crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has deepened following a ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which restrained the party’s leadership under David Mark from conducting or recognizing state congresses.

Delivering judgment on Wednesday, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik held that only the party’s state executive committees are constitutionally empowered to organize state congresses, not the national leadership.

The court further affirmed that the four-year tenure of the ADC’s State Working Committees and State Executive Committees remains valid and subsisting until properly conducted congresses are held and a national convention is convened.

Justice Abdulmalik also ruled that neither the Nigerian Constitution nor the ADC’s constitution grants the caretaker or interim National Working Committee, led by Mark, the authority to appoint committees to oversee state congresses.

The judgment followed a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/581/2026, filed by Don Norman Obinna, Johnny Tovie Derek, Obah C. Ehigiator, Olona Yinka, Charles Idowu Omideji, Samuel Pam Gyang, and Obianyo Patrick. The plaintiffs instituted the case on behalf of themselves and all ADC state chairmen and executive committees.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has outlined his expectations ahead of his side’s UEFA Champions League semi-final first-leg clash against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.

The Gunners head into the high-stakes encounter on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League last weekend.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Arteta acknowledged the challenge posed by the Spanish side, highlighting their pedigree and experience in European competitions.

“A really tough match. They are a team with so much experience in the competition and fully deserve to be here because what they have achieved is remarkable,” he said.

The Arsenal boss, however, expressed confidence in his team’s ability, pointing to their consistency and strong performances across Europe this season.

“We understand the difficulty of the match, but we have shown in Europe, on any ground, what we are capable of. We have been very consistent, and tomorrow we must play with confidence, desire, and the will to win,” Arteta added.

Police allegedly shoot unarmed man dead in Delta

A disturbing video circulating online has triggered widespread outrage across Nigeria, with many expressing shock over what appears to be an alleged extrajudicial killing involving police officers.

The footage, reportedly linked to operatives from the Effurun Area Command of the Delta State Police Command, shows a man with his hands tied behind his back pleading for his life before being shot. The victim, whose identity remains unknown, was heard insisting on his innocence and begging officers to take him to Sapele, where he claimed he could help identify another ব্যক্তি connected to the case.

The incident, said to have occurred on Monday afternoon in a public setting, has intensified concerns about police conduct, accountability, and the use of force by security agencies. The graphic clip has since gone viral, sparking heated debates on social media over justice and human rights.

Reacting to the development, Nollywood actor Stanley Ontop publicly criticised the Delta State Police Command, alleging a pattern of extrajudicial actions in the state. In a post directed at the police authorities, he called for urgent action and accountability over the incident.

Similarly, human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu urged the Federal Government and relevant authorities to launch a thorough investigation. He described the video as deeply troubling, insisting that the circumstances surrounding the killing raise serious questions about due process and justice.

As reactions continue to pour in, the incident has reignited calls for comprehensive reforms within Nigeria’s policing system, particularly regarding adherence to human rights standards and the rule of law. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.

A member of the House of Representatives representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, James Faleke, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination forms on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The forms were officially presented on Tuesday in Abuja by the APC National OOrganizingSecretary, Suleiman Argungu, who also announced the commencement of the party’s nomination process.

Faleke, founder of the Tinubu Support Groups, received the documents on behalf of the Ppresident, signaling an early step toward Tinubu’s potential bid for a second term.

The nomination forms, reportedly valued at ₦100 million, are widely viewed as a formal indication of Tinubu’s intention to contest in the 2027 election.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for Saturday, January 16, 2027. Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are set for Saturday, February 6, 2027.

INEC also stated that party primaries, including the resolution of disputes, will hold between April 23 and May 30, 2026.

Campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections are expected to begin on August 19, 2026, while campaigns for governorship and state assembly elections will commence on September 9, 2026

2027: They don’t have numbers to defeat Tinubu—ADC exco speaks on Obi–Kwankwaso ticket

0

The Deputy National Financial Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Fabiyi Oladimeji, has ruled out the viability of a presidential ticket pairing Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 elections.

Oladimeji, who serves in the David Mark-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, argued that only a joint ticket involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Obi could muster the electoral strength needed to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, he maintained that voting patterns from the 2023 general election indicate that an Obi/Kwankwaso alliance would not generate sufficient support to secure victory.

According to him, “Even Kwankwaso and Obi cannot give us the numbers. The most viable option remains Atiku and Obi.

“The combined votes of the three candidates in the last election stood at about 14 to 15 million, while the president polled around eight million. If these forces unite, Nigerians will clearly see the impact.”

He added that Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, have already expressed readiness to support any consensus candidate that emerges.

Oladimeji said the ADC is also expecting a similar commitment from Peter Obi, stressing that the focus should be on national interest rather than individual ambition.

“This is not about personal ambition; it is about rescuing the country,” he stated.

“They shot him through the door twice”—mother of slained NYSC member in Abuja disputes Nigeriam Army

Habiba Abubakar, mother of Abdulsamad Jamiu, a 24-year-old National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member allegedly killed in Dei-Dei, Abuja, has recounted the painful and confusing moments that led to the discovery of her son’s death.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, Abubakar said she was out of town with her husband for a burial when a neighbor called around 2:30 a.m. to report gunshots in their area.

“I traveled on Thursday, hoping to return on Saturday to meet my son at home. Only to receive a call from my neighbor asking if everything was fine. She said she was hearing gunshots. Fear gripped me,” she said.

She explained that repeated attempts to reach her children failed, as one phone was switched off and another was unreachable. When she finally contacted her husband, he initially downplayed the situation.

“He didn’t tell me the truth at first. He said soldiers had taken Abdulsamad for interrogation. I kept asking why,” she said.

Abubakar said her suspicion grew when family members took her phone during the ordeal and could not return it when requested.

“That was when I knew my son was no longer alive,” she said.

Upon her return to Abuja, she was confronted with the reality of her son’s death. She insisted that he was inside his room when the incident occurred and questioned the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

“They shot him through the door. They fired at the door twice,” she alleged.

She further claimed that soldiers entered the compound by scaling the fence, accessed the house through the back, and went straight to her son’s room. According to her, they later asked vigilantes to clean the scene using items taken from her kitchen.

“They took cleaning materials and asked vigilantes to mop the blood. Why would they do that?” she asked.

Jamiu was killed in the early hours of April 25 at his family residence in Dei-Dei Shagari Quarters while his parents were away. His sister was reportedly at home during the incident.

The Nigerian Army, through the Headquarters Guards Brigade, had earlier stated that the corps member died after being caught in crossfire during a response to a distress call about an armed robbery.

Spokesperson Olawuyi Odunola said troops came under fire from fleeing suspects, leading to the fatal shooting.

However, the family has rejected the military’s account, describing it as misleading. They argued that the bullet trajectory suggests it was fired from outside through a closed door, contradicting claims of a crossfire.

They also said no weapons were recovered from the scene and that witnesses reported hearing only a single gunshot. The family further alleged that soldiers admitted the shooting was a mistake in the presence of a divisional police officer.

Calling for justice, the family demanded an independent investigation, the suspension and prosecution of those involved, a retraction of the military’s statement, and a formal apology.

“The Nigerian military is constitutionally mandated to protect citizens. On April 25, that mandate was catastrophically violated,” the family said.
