Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has outlined his expectations ahead of his side’s UEFA Champions League semi-final first-leg clash against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.
The Gunners head into the high-stakes encounter on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League last weekend.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Arteta acknowledged the challenge posed by the Spanish side, highlighting their pedigree and experience in European competitions.
“A really tough match. They are a team with so much experience in the competition and fully deserve to be here because what they have achieved is remarkable,” he said.
The Arsenal boss, however, expressed confidence in his team’s ability, pointing to their consistency and strong performances across Europe this season.
“We understand the difficulty of the match, but we have shown in Europe, on any ground, what we are capable of. We have been very consistent, and tomorrow we must play with confidence, desire, and the will to win,” Arteta added.
