BREAKING: Victory for ADC as Supreme Court upholds David Mark leadership

0

Victory for Opposition party as the Supreme Court of Nigeria has affirmed the leadership of the African Democratic Congress under former Senate President, David Mark.

The development was disclosed on Thursday by Paul Ibe, spokesperson to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, via a Facebook post.

The apex court, in a unanimous decision by a five-member panel headed by Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba, held that the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal acted beyond its jurisdiction by unilaterally issuing an order after it had already dismissed a case that was brought before it by one of the factions.

“The directive of the Court of Appeal to maintain status quo ante bellum is a preservatory order, wrongly made in this case,” the Supreme Court said in the judgment.

It held that the appeal that was filed before it by David Mark succeeded in part, even as it dismissed the aspect that challenged an ex parte order the Federal High Court made for service of processes in the suit filed by aggrieved members of the party.

The apex court directed the factions to return to the trial court for continuation of the hearing of the case.

Nigerian Newssphere reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had earlier derecognized the executives of the ADC led by David Mark, citing a court judgment by the Court of Appeal.

0

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as minister of power, pending confirmation by the Senate.

The nomination was disclosed on Thursday in a statement issued by the president’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the president has formally transmitted Tegbe’s name to the Senate for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional provisions.

Onanuga explained that the nomination follows the resignation of the former minister of power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.

He described Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, as a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience across both public and private sectors.

Tegbe previously served as senior partner and head of advisory services at KPMG Africa, where he spearheaded initiatives in fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation, and governance.

The statement added that he has advised key government institutions and private organizations on strategic reforms, regulatory frameworks, and investment structuring.

He currently serves as director general and global liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he oversees efforts to strengthen development cooperation between Nigeria and China.

Onanuga noted that the partnership also coordinates engagements with public sector stakeholders to drive economic and social development in line with the objectives of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Nigerian Newssphere reports that Adelabu had resigned to pursue his Oyo State gubernatorial ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Na frustration you see inherit from your papa- Davido slams T-Dot

0

Nigerian music star Davido has responded sharply to singer T-Dot after being labelled a “daddy’s boy” in the ongoing social media clash involving Wizkid’s disc jockey, DJ Tunez.

The drama began after DJ Tunez reposted Wizkid’s gym photo in an outfit similar to one earlier worn by Davido, captioning it, “Original, no be fake.” The post was widely perceived as a subtle jab at Davido.

Davido reacted angrily, referencing DJ Tunez’s recent altercation with Burna Boy. In a string of posts, he wrote, “You’re just a disgusting nasty fellow. Dem use boots to carry your steeze forever. Idiot, e wa woo! Look, he’s on the floor.”

T-Dot, however, came to DJ Tunez’s defense, insisting the DJ was not defeated and had shown courage despite being outnumbered. He also took a swipe at Davido, writing:

“Tunez can never lose his steeze for that. He was 1vs10 and punched your besty right in the mouth when he saw they meant him harm. Where I’m from, that shows heart. You never stood anywhere on this earth, 10 toes down, without your dad’s money, security, and your boys.”

In response, Davido dismissed the recurring criticism about his background and fired back at T-Dot, stating:

“Your daddy, your daddy, nah, the only thing Una knows … why ur papa no hustle … Shut up and slide for Tunez. Na frustration you see inherit from your papa e reach to dey vex.”

The heated exchange has further intensified tensions within Nigeria’s music scene, sparking widespread reactions across social media platforms.

Nigerians to face more hardship as NNPC increases petrol price

0

Nigerians are to face worsened economic hardship as Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) increased the pump price of premium motor spirit (petrol) following a fresh hike in gantry price by Dangote Refinery.

A market check in Abuja on Thursday showed that NNPCL filling stations across the city adjusted their pump price to N1,364 per litre, up from N1,295, indicating an increase of N69 per litre.

The new pricing has already taken effect in several locations, including Gwarimpa, Kubwa Expressway, Wuse Zone 6, and Zone 4.

A fuel attendant at one of the outlets, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the adjustment, saying the new rate was implemented on Thursday morning.

“We changed the pump price to N1,364 per liter from N1,295 today,” the attendant said.

The development comes shortly after other retail outlets such as MRS and BOVAS adjusted their prices to between N1,365 and N1,370 per liter.

The latest increase follows a move by Dangote Refinery to raise its gantry price by N75, from N1,200 to N1,275 per liter, citing rising crude oil prices, which recently climbed above $115 per barrel.

He holds a degree in accounting from Bayero University Kano and is also an alumnus of Harvard Business School.

Pending Senate confirmation of his nomination, the most senior official within the NMDPRA will oversee the agency’s operations in an acting capacity.

Supreme Court announces date to rule on ADC, PDP leadership crises

Nigeria’s Supreme Court is set to deliver key judgments on Thursday, April 30, in separate cases arising from the internal crises rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Both matters have been listed for hearing on the apex court’s official schedule, according to Nigerian Newssphere.

Details show that the ADC case, marked SC/CV/180/2026, is fixed for 2 p.m., while the time for the PDP matter has not been specified.

The disputes stem from lingering leadership and structural disagreements within the two parties.

It would be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier nullified the leadership of David Mark in the ADC, citing a ruling of the Court of Appeal.

BREAKING: English FA bans Chelsea star Mudryk

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been handed a four-year suspension by the Football Association (FA) after breaching anti-doping regulations.

According to reports by the Daily Mail, the sanction represents the maximum penalty for the offense.

Mudryk has since moved to challenge the ruling, filing an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on February 25. However, a hearing date is yet to be fixed.

The 25-year-old has not played for Chelsea FC since November 28, 2024.

The Ukrainian international joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023 in a deal worth £88 million and remains under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2030.

2027: It’s time for Igbo presidency in Nigeria—El-Rufai

0

Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has advocated for Nigeria to produce what he described as a “pure-blood Igbo president.”

Bashir made the remark in a post on X, stating that the country must elect an Igbo president to address lingering historical grievances.

“It’s high time Nigeria had a pure-blood Igbo president. Until then, all these wounds of the past will persist to remain,” he wrote.

His comment comes amid longstanding conversations around political inclusion and power rotation in Nigeria, particularly calls for the Southeast to produce a president.

In the 2019 presidential election, Peter Obi, who is from the Southeast, contested as the running mate to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Ahead of the 2023 elections, Obi defected from the PDP to the Labour Party, where he ran for president. He finished third behind Atiku and the eventual winner, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The push for an Igbo presidency gained momentum in the lead-up to the 2023 polls, with many stakeholders in the Southeast insisting it was time for the region to occupy the nation’s highest office.

Money Laundering: EFCC Investigated Jerry Eze for Six Months- Olukoyede reveals outcome

0

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has revealed that the agency investigated Jerry Eze, lead pastor of Streams of Joy International, for six months over alleged money laundering but found no evidence of wrongdoing.

Olukoyede made the disclosure during the Jerry Eze Foundation Business Grant Award held in Abuja, noting that the investigation was triggered by intelligence reports and petitions received by the commission.

According to him, the probe focused on financial transactions involving foreign inflows from multiple countries, including Colombia, the United States, Sri Lanka, and Togo.

“There was an account where dollars and pounds were dropping like raindrops,” Olukoyede said, adding that despite the volume and pattern of transactions, the EFCC found nothing suspicious after a thorough investigation.

The EFCC boss used the opportunity to express concern over rising cases of fraud involving some religious leaders, revealing that several clerics are currently under investigation or have been convicted for financial crimes.

“Sometimes I wish we would change the words ‘church’ and ‘mosque’ and instead describe them as assemblies of righteous people,” he said, lamenting that both Christian and Islamic leaders have been implicated in fraudulent activities.

He, however, maintained that the case involving Pastor Eze ended without any adverse findings, effectively clearing him of the allegations.
