‘Igbo man with another person’s wife with 4 children’- Nollywood actress, Peggy Ovire to estranged Husband, Freddie Leonard

0

Nollywood actress Peggy Ovire has publicly accused her estranged husband, Freddie Leonard, of failing to appear in court for their divorce proceedings.

The actress made the allegations in a post shared via her Instagram Story on Tuesday, where she also posted a video showing Leonard alongside a woman she claimed is married.

In the post, Ovire described the pair as “shameless lots” and urged them not to miss the next court date scheduled for June 23.

“Married woman o, shameless lots, please don’t avoid coming to the customary court June 23rd for the second time,” she wrote.

She further alleged that Leonard had requested a divorce but failed to appear in court after being served with legal documents.

“You said you wanted a divorce, yet you didn’t show up when you were served. Please don’t avoid customary court for the 2nd time on June 23rd because I’m coming with receipts and let’s make this divorce done and dusted. So both of you can finally be together,” she stated.

Ovire also accused the actor of being involved with another man’s wife, claiming the woman has four children.

“So-called traditional Igbo man with another Igbo man’s wife with 4 children, you ran to a blogger that I was lying, but when you were served and saw details of my petition, you knew I had seen one out of many, yet refused to show up in court but sent your lawyer,” she added.

Neither Leonard nor the woman mentioned in the post had publicly responded to the allegations at the time of filing this report.

Why I celebrate Divorces — Comedian Bovi opens up on marital struggles

0

Popular Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi Ugboma has revealed that he celebrates when couples get divorced, stating that the end of a troubled marriage can bring relief to those involved.

Speaking during a recent episode of The Moraya Show, Bovi explained that he views divorce as a positive outcome when a relationship becomes unhealthy or unbearable for one or both partners.

According to the comedian, remaining in a toxic marriage is far worse than choosing to part ways.

“I celebrate when people get divorced because I feel it means one or both people were not breathing well in the marriage. I will not suffer anybody neither will I want anybody to suffer me,” he said.

Bovi stressed that his stance does not mean marriage is easy, noting that his own union has faced challenges over the years.

“That is not to say my marriage has been easy for 17 years. It has not. I got married at 29. I have been providing for 17 years nonstop,” he added.

The comedian’s comments have sparked discussions on marriage, divorce, and the importance of personal well-being in relationships.

2027: Don’t repeat LP mistake- Abure warns NDC over Peter Obi

0

Former National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, has cautioned the leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) against what he described as granting excessive influence to former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, and his supporters within the party.

Abure made the remarks in a statement issued on June 8, 2026, while reacting to reports of disagreements over the sharing of elective positions within the NDC.

The embattled Labour Party chieftain said the decision of the NDC leadership, led by Senator Seriake Dickson, not to concede all political positions demanded by Obi’s supporters was justified, citing the Labour Party’s experience during and after the 2023 general elections.

According to Abure, several politicians who secured elective offices on the Labour Party platform later turned against the party leadership instead of contributing to the party’s growth.

“They say history usually repeats itself. Senator Dickson and Co have seen their trajectory and learnt from what happened to us,” Abure stated.

He alleged that many office holders who benefited from the Labour Party’s platform eventually aligned with Obi and became involved in disputes over the party’s leadership structure.

Abure further claimed that the Labour Party leadership made significant sacrifices ahead of the 2023 elections by accommodating Obi’s supporters in the allocation of party tickets.

“We only looked at his body language and obliged most of his supporters with tickets. Most of the tickets were given for free because we believed we were investing in those persons,” he said.

The former LP chairman also accused some elected officials of supporting efforts to challenge the party leadership after winning elections on the party’s platform.

“All those elected under the party, Obi took them to fight the leadership of the party,” he alleged.

Abure argued that political parties must maintain a balance in the distribution of positions and influence to ensure internal stability and loyalty.

“It is very good for Seriake Dickson not to have given Obi supporters all they needed in the NDC. He needed to bring his own people so that when the chips are down, he will also have people that will speak and defend him,” he added.

He further accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of contributing to the leadership crisis that emerged within the Labour Party after the 2023 elections, alleging that some party leaders embraced claims that the tenure of the party’s executives had expired.

“The leaders, particularly Peter Obi and Alex Otti, decided to take over the leadership of the party,” Abure alleged.

He maintained that his comments were prompted by questions from members of the public regarding how the Labour Party managed its relationship with Obi and his supporters during the 2022/2023 election cycle.

World Cup 2026: His visa status won’t be changed- FIFA confirms US denied African referee entry

0

FIFA has confirmed that Somali referee Omar Artan will no longer officiate at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after he was denied entry into the United States.

The world football governing body disclosed this in a statement on Monday, explaining that Artan would be unable to participate in training activities or officiate matches following the decision of US immigration authorities.

“FIFA is not involved in host country immigration processes, including visa adjudications, and has been informed by authorities that Mr. Artan’s status will not be changed at present,” the statement said in part.

FIFA further noted that decisions regarding visa issuance and admission into a country rest solely with the host government.

Artan, who has been on FIFA’s international refereeing list since 2018, was reportedly denied entry into the United States despite holding a valid visa.

The Somali official is regarded as one of Africa’s leading referees, having officiated at the Africa Cup of Nations and earned recognition from the Confederation of African Football, CAF, for his performances in recent years.

His absence represents a setback for African representation among match officials at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

NCC appoints Emiko as Interim Board Chairman of Digital Bridge Institute

The Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has appointed Princess Oforitsenere Emiko as interim chairman of the governing board of the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), a move that anchors the Commission’s plan to reposition the Institute for the next era of Nigeria’s communications sector and digital economy.

The commission disclosed this in a statement on Monday by its director of public affairs, Nnenna Ukoha.

She will be joined on the board by Engr. Abraham Oshadami, Executive Commissioner, Technical Services, and Ms. Rimini Makama, Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management, who join as interim board members. The interim leadership will work alongside the president/CEO, Mr. David Daser, and the remaining board members whose tenures are unexpired to drive the institute’s transformation.

Established by the NCC in May 2004, DBI was created as a specialized center for training in telecommunications and information technology. In the two decades since, the sector it serves has grown from telecommunications into a broad, fast-moving digital economy, one where technology now advances quickly enough to demand continuous specialized training and where communications infrastructure has become a matter of national sovereignty and oversight. Securing and advancing the future of communications and the digital economy is now a clear national and economic priority.

That future also rests on Nigeria’s young population. With 70 percent of Nigerians under the age of 30, the DBI transformation is designed to empower young people, equip them with advanced technical skills, and close the capability gap that currently slows the pace of technology adoption across the communications sector and the wider digital economy.

The repositioned institute will concentrate on five areas: Education and Training, Research and Development, Innovation, Economic Impact and Growth, and Emerging Policy and Regulation. The strategy has been shaped through engagements beyond the NCC and the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, including consultations with the Federal Ministry of Education and TETFund, the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).

The Nigerian naira recorded a slight appreciation against the United States dollar at the official foreign exchange market on Monday.

Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, showed that the naira closed at N1,362.84 per dollar on Monday, compared to N1,363.48/$1 recorded on Friday.

The latest exchange rate represents a marginal gain of N0.64 for the local currency against the dollar on a day-to-day basis.

At the parallel market, however, the naira remained unchanged, trading at N1,395 per dollar, the same rate recorded at the close of trading last week.

The development comes amid a further increase in Nigeria’s foreign reserves, which rose to $50.12 billion as of June 5, 2026, according to figures released by the apex bank.

The naira had depreciated against the dollar on both Thursday and Friday at the official foreign exchange market before returning to appreciation at the start of the new week.

Insecurity: Suspected herdsmen behead health worker in Benue, flee with head

0

A health worker, identified as Ojoma Emie, has been killed in an attack by suspected herdsmen in Ikobi, Apa Local Government Area of Benue State.

The incident occurred on Monday morning along the Ikobi-Ugbokpo road as the victim was returning from Ugbokpo town, where he had reportedly gone to purchase medicine.

Sources told Journalists that Emie, a father of three who lived in Oloke, Ikobi, was ambushed at Ugbobi Junction, a section of the road residents have described as a frequent attack point for armed herders.

According to the sources, the attackers killed the victim and fled the scene, leaving his body behind. Residents later discovered the corpse and alerted the community.

Confirming the incident, Vice President of the Ikobi Progressive Forum, Dr. Edoh Ofugocho, said residents became concerned after hearing several gunshots from the area.

“Our people heard gunshots about 10 to 15 times. People immediately became apprehensive because they knew he was on his way to Ugbokpo to buy medicine. Later, it was discovered that he had been attacked and killed at Ugbobi Junction,” Ofugocho said.

He described the deceased as a dedicated health worker, husband and father, whose death has left the community devastated.

Ofugocho alleged that communities in the area had continued to suffer attacks by suspected herdsmen despite repeated calls for improved security.

“We are deeply worried that this particular route has become a recurring ambush point. Our people can no longer travel freely on roads within their own communities,” he said.

He added that the victim had been buried and appealed to security agencies and government authorities to strengthen security in the area and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

Residents say fear remains high in the community amid concerns over recurring attacks along major routes in the local government area.

The Oyo State Government has commenced the demolition of a building allegedly used as a hideout by kidnappers of the sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons.

The victims were abducted last Wednesday and later rescued by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force on Saturday.

Nigerian Newssphere gathered that officials of the Oyo State Ministry of Public Works and Transportation, accompanied by police personnel, began the demolition exercise on Monday.

The property is located at Lakoun Estate, along Olomi Olojuoro Road in Oluyole Local Government Area of the state.

Sources told DAILY  POST that heavy equipment had earlier been moved to the site in preparation for the demolition.

The action follows the successful rescue of the victims during a police operation carried out over the weekend.

2027: He didn’t sell forms- Kwankwasiyya movement speaks on their leader dumping NDC

0

Supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement have rejected reports that the leadership of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has replaced some party candidates loyal to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in Kano State.

Reports had claimed that the NDC altered the list of candidates earlier submitted by the Kwankwasiyya faction following an alleged breach of a power-sharing arrangement within the party.

A document reportedly signed by the Kano State Chairman of the NDC, Hussaini Isah Mairiga, stated that the changes were made to align with an earlier agreement on the distribution of party positions and elective tickets between the party’s existing structure and the Kwankwasiyya bloc.

The document, which was reportedly copied to NDC National Leader Senator Seriake Dickson, Kwankwasiyya leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the party’s North-West Zonal Chairman, also contained adjustments to the list of candidates for federal and state legislative seats.

Reacting to the development, the National Spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Habib Mai-Lemo, dismissed the report and insisted that all aspirants from the Kwankwaso camp emerged through due process.

Speaking on Monday, Mai-Lemo said the movement was treating the report as a rumour pending official confirmation, noting that both the party leadership in the state and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) participated in the processes that produced the candidates.

He maintained that nomination forms were issued by the party and that candidates emerged either through consensus arrangements or primary elections conducted in line with party procedures.

According to him, no complaints were raised during the nomination and selection processes, and the movement had not received any official communication regarding the alleged changes.

Mai-Lemo added that the state party chairman was involved throughout the candidate selection process and that INEC representatives were present, making the reported alterations surprising to members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

“I also saw on social media that some candidates are being dropped a week after the primaries were conducted.

“It was not Kwankwaso that sold nomination forms, it was the party and as such processes were followed either through consensus or primary election.

“All our candidates participated in the processes from start to finish. While the processes were going on, we never received any complaints from anybody. We didn’t block anybody from buying forms because at the first place we didn’t sell the forms.

Insecurity: Why US military should takeover Mandara Borno- Senator Ndume

0

Senator Ali Ndume has called for the establishment of a United States military base in Borno State, arguing that it would help tackle Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria’s North-East region.

Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District in the Senate, made the appeal during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Sunday.

The lawmaker advocated a stronger US military presence in the region, suggesting that American forces establish a base in the Mandara Mountains, which he described as a strategic location for monitoring and disrupting insurgent activities.

According to him, the area could serve as a key operational point for tracking movements across the Mandara Mountains, Sambisa Forest and other areas where insurgents are known to operate.

“I am appealing. Let the Americans go to Gwoza and take over the Mandara Mountains. It will go a long way in reducing insecurity because they have the technology to monitor those areas,” Ndume said.

He stated that the geographical position of the Mandara Mountains would make it easier to monitor routes connecting Sambisa Forest, Lake Chad, Kaga, Buni Yadi and other locations frequently linked to insurgent movements.

Ndume argued that restricting access through these routes would weaken terrorist groups by disrupting their supply lines and support networks.

The senator, however, noted that military operations would also require adequate funding, equipment and personnel to achieve lasting results.

“The Nigerian Army needs the resources. You cannot effectively secure those areas without enough boots on the ground,” he said.

His remarks come amid ongoing security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States on counter-terrorism efforts in the North-East.
