The figure was disclosed by the National Bureau of Statistics in its Consumer Price Index (CPI) and inflation report for February released on Monday.

According to the statistics agency, the country’s headline inflation dropped by 0.04 percentage points on a year-on-year basis.

Despite the slight moderation in the general inflation rate, food inflation rose to 12.12 percent in February, up from 8.89 percent recorded in the previous month.

“In February 2026, the headline inflation rate eased to 15.06 percent, down from 15.10 percent in January 2026,” the bureau stated.

Nigerian singer Crayon has stirred controversy online after publicly criticizing the leadership of his record label in a series of posts on social media.

The artist, who is signed to Blowtime Entertainment, an imprint of Mavin Records, took to his X account to express frustration with the label and its management.

In one of the posts, Crayon appeared to take a swipe at the label’s founder, Don Jazzy, writing, “Don Jazzy na my boy!!!!!! Una dey maddddd!!?? Shayennnnn sharayyyyyy333.”

The singer also criticized Tega Oghenejobo, the Chief Operating Officer of Mavin Records, referring to him as the “highest criminal.”

Crayon further made a startling claim, alleging that he lost his mother because of the label, although he did not provide further details or context for the statement.

In another post that quickly drew attention online, the singer wrote, “Mavin is going down!!!!!!,” sparking speculation about a possible fallout between him and the record label.

The posts have since generated widespread reactions among fans and industry observers, many of whom are questioning the future of Crayon’s relationship with Mavin Records.

However, it remains unclear whether the singer’s X account may have been compromised, as he has continued posting normally on his Instagram page without suggesting that the account was hacked.

Meanwhile, Crayon recently shared details about what appears to be a new venture, Olodum Entertainment, including a new booking email address on his Instagram page.

The development has further fuelled rumors that the singer may be planning to part ways with Mavin Records, although neither Crayon nor the label has officially confirmed any split.

Crayon joined Blowtime Entertainment, a subsidiary of Mavin Records, in May 2019 and has since released several songs under the label.

Police counters FAAN over arrest of bandits in Ondo Airport

0

The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that bandits were arrested at the Akure Airport.

Nigerian Newssphere recalls that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria had on Sunday announced the arrest of four suspected bandits within the vicinity of the airport, a development that sparked concerns online.

However, reacting to the reports, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Abayomi Jimoh, described the claims as misleading.

According to him, no arrest of bandits took place at the airport, and there was no security breach at the facility.

Jimoh explained that the command actually received credible intelligence from a concerned resident about the activities of suspected kidnappers around the Eleyewo area of Akure.

Acting on the information, police operatives launched a targeted operation in the area, which led to the arrest of two suspects believed to be supplying logistics to kidnapping gangs operating in the state.

He said preliminary investigations showed that the suspects were involved in providing support for kidnap operations and had already made useful confessional statements aiding further investigations and efforts to apprehend other members of the criminal network.

The police spokesperson urged residents to disregard claims that bandits were arrested at the airport, describing such reports as false and capable of causing unnecessary panic.

He also reassured the public that security around critical infrastructure in the state, including the airport, remains intact and urged residents to continue their lawful activities while providing timely and credible information to security agencies.

Nigerian singer Chike has accused a social media user, Chioma Nneoma Ochibili, of allegedly defrauding him of $20,000.

The music star made the allegation in a series of posts shared on X on Monday morning.

According to the singer, he handed over $20,000 to Ochibili for a business deal but later realized that the agreement may have been fraudulent.

“Chioma Nneoma Ochibili, so you are a thief? That’s how they do. They will tell you they are doing certain business. Her business is to survive on your money,” he wrote.

Chike added that he only discovered much later that he might have been one of several victims.

“$50,000 in the air. $20,000 of my hard-earned money I didn’t see either. How do I find out this late that I’m just another person she has duped? Even me, I would laugh myself,” he said.

2026 World Cup Playoff: FIFA finally announces verdict for Nigeria vs DR Congo

0

The world football governing body, FIFA, has sanctioned both the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Congolese Football Association (CFA) for separate violations during their 2026 World Cup playoff match played in November 2025.

According to Sports Village Square, Nigeria was penalized for failing to maintain order and security during the match. The incident involved spectators throwing objects inside the stadium, an action considered a breach of FIFA’s match regulations.

Following the ruling, the NFF has been fined 1,000 Swiss francs by FIFA.

Meanwhile, the Congolese federation received a heavier punishment after supporters of the Democratic Republic of the Congo national team were found to have used laser pointers and other electronic devices during the encounter.

FIFA said the action violates Article 17.2.d of its Disciplinary Code, resulting in a fine of 5,000 Swiss Francs for the CFA.

NOA, ICRC Sign MoU to enforce immediate treatment for gunshot victims

0

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch a nationwide sensitization campaign on the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act 2017.

The law mandates that hospitals provide immediate emergency medical treatment to gunshot victims without requiring prior police clearance or reports.

At the signing ceremony at the NOA headquarters in Abuja, the Deputy Head of Delegation for the ICRC in Nigeria, Mr. James Matthews, stated that despite the existence of the law, delays in medical care for gunshot victims persist in parts of the country.

These delays, he said, often stem from limited public awareness and hesitancy among healthcare providers in handling such emergencies.

Mr. Matthews stated that the collaboration with NOA would leverage the agency’s extensive outreach to ensure widespread knowledge of the Act.

He commended the partnership, noting, “Through NOA’s broad national reach, the ICRC will help ensure gunshot victims receive timely medical care. Improved awareness will save lives, particularly in remote or conflict-affected areas.”

Representing the Director General of the NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the agency’s Head of Health and Social Care, Dr. Femi Ayiola, emphasized the critical need for sensitization.

He explained that many lives have been lost historically due to requirements for police reports before treatment, which delayed urgent care.

The representative also affirmed that NOA would deploy its structures across all 774 Local Government Areas, alongside social media, community engagement, and other channels, to educate citizens on their rights.

“The agency will work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that no one is denied emergency medical care in the event of gunshot injuries,” the representative said, adding that the partnership would promote responsible behavior and contribute to saving lives through prompt access to treatment.” He said.

Both organizations expressed optimism that the initiative would enhance public understanding of the law enacted in 2017 to prioritize the sanctity of life and reduce preventable deaths from delayed care.

The MoU aligns with ongoing efforts to protect healthcare access and uphold humanitarian principles in emergency situations.

Bandits Abduct five foreign Nationals at Zamfara Gold mining site

0

Bandits have abducted at least five foreign nationals from Burkina Faso at a gold mining site near Arafa village in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The incident was disclosed in a post on X by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security analyst covering the Lake Chad region.

According to the report, the attack occurred around 11:15 a.m. on March 14 when a large group of bandits, believed to have been hiding between Arafa and Gidan Dankande villages, stormed the mining site and forcefully whisked away the workers to an unknown destination.

The attackers, who were heavily armed, reportedly fled into the surrounding forest before security personnel from a nearby Operation FANSAN YAMMA base could arrive at the scene.

By the time the troops got to the area, the bandits had already escaped into the bush with the abducted victims.

The source added that security operatives have begun efforts to trace the kidnappers and secure the safe release of the foreign workers, with forces currently combing the area for intelligence that could lead to their rescue.

The incident again highlights the growing link between illegal mining activities and armed banditry in Zamfara State.

Over the years, the Northwest’s rich mineral deposits—including gold, copper, and lithium—have attracted both legitimate investors and criminal groups, who often exploit the resources to fund violent operations.

Another Nigerian lawmaker, Dasuki defects to ADC

0

The lawmaker representing the Tambuwal/Kebbe Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, Abdussamad Dasuki, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Dasuki announced his resignation in a letter dated March 15, 2026, addressed to the PDP chairman of Dogon Daji/Salah Ward in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, formally ending his long-standing membership of the party.

In the letter, the federal lawmaker blamed his decision on the ongoing leadership crisis rocking the party, which he said has significantly weakened its effectiveness as a credible opposition platform.

According to him, “the persistent internal wrangling has weakened the party’s capacity to offer the credible and organized opposition required to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic system.”

Dasuki explained that his decision came after extensive consultations with political allies, constituents, and other stakeholders who share similar concerns about the current condition of the party and the nation.

Following his exit from the PDP, Dasuki announced that he has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), noting that the move would enable him to collaborate with individuals committed to tackling Nigeria’s prevailing socio-economic and political challenges.

He also appreciated members of the PDP for their support during his time in the party and reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the people of Tambuwal/Kebbe Federal Constituency, Sokoto State, and Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and courage.

The lawmaker further urged his supporters and constituents to remain steadfast as he begins a new political journey aimed at contributing to efforts to rebuild the country and promote a more prosperous and democratic Nigeria.
