Several passengers have sustained injuries after a train travelling from Abuja to Kaduna derailed on Monday following a collision.
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Kayode Opeifa, confirmed the development.
According to him, the incident occurred near Asham during the journey.
Opeifa stated that although a number of passengers were injured in the accident, no fatalities had been recorded as of the time of filing this report. He added that the injured victims had been transported back to Idu Train Station in Abuja to receive medical attention.
He also disclosed that the corporation has commenced an investigation to determine the exact cause of the derailment.
“It is confirmed that our Abuja–Kaduna train had an incident at Asham. Passengers were injured while an investigation is ongoing into the exact cause of the incident,” Opeifa said.
