The world football governing body, FIFA, has sanctioned both the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Congolese Football Association (CFA) for separate violations during their 2026 World Cup playoff match played in November 2025.
According to Sports Village Square, Nigeria was penalized for failing to maintain order and security during the match. The incident involved spectators throwing objects inside the stadium, an action considered a breach of FIFA’s match regulations.
Following the ruling, the NFF has been fined 1,000 Swiss francs by FIFA.
Meanwhile, the Congolese federation received a heavier punishment after supporters of the Democratic Republic of the Congo national team were found to have used laser pointers and other electronic devices during the encounter.
FIFA said the action violates Article 17.2.d of its Disciplinary Code, resulting in a fine of 5,000 Swiss Francs for the CFA.
