Fuel price drop: Why Dangote Refinery fails to meet deadline to begin petrol distribution nationwide—IPMAN

0

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria has explained why Dangote Refinery has not begun its fuel distribution scheme despite fixing August 15, 2025, as the takeoff time.

IPMAN said that truck numbering is the reason Dangote Refinery is yet to begin its fuel and diesel distribution scheme on Friday, August 15th, 2025.

The National President of IPMAN, Abubakar Maigandi, disclosed this to DAILY POST in an interview on Friday.

Recall that Dangote Refinery had announced that it would begin petrol products distribution nationwide on August 15th, 2025. However, the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery is yet to begin the scheme, which the oil firm said would cost N1.07 trillion annually.

Meanwhile, Dangote Refinery had said it has received the supply of its N720 billion worth of compressed natural gas trucks.

Reacting to the development, Maigandi stressed that Dangote Refinery is currently numbering its trucks and would begin the scheme in a week’s time.

He reiterated that the scheme, when it kicks off, would further lead to a reduction in fuel price.

“I spoke with the management; right now they are doing the numbering of the trucks. Immediately they are done; in a week, they will begin the direct-to-customers fuel distribution scheme.

“The scheme will bring down the petrol price because petroleum marketers will no longer bear the logistics cost,” he stated.

However, the Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria (NOGASA) and the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria have kicked against the Dangote Refinery initiative, citing massive job losses.

Strike: Nigerian workers to shutdown economy as NLC gives FG seven days ultimatum

0

The Nigeria Labour Congress has issued a seven-day ultimatum to President Bola Tinubu’s government following the administration’s failure to constitute the governing board of the National Pension Commission.

This was contained in a communiqué issued by the President of the union, Joe Ajaero.

News Sphere recall that the Central Working Committee of the labour union met on Wednesday to deliberate on urgent issues bedeviling Nigerians, particularly workers and members of the trade union movement.

According to the communique, the union accused the federal government of diverting workers’ funds allegedly through the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund.

The government’s claim of ownership of the NLC National Headquarters is also part of the issues being looked upon by the union.

According to NLC president, the property is owned by the Nigerian workers and not the government.

Ajero also lamented what he termed as “cyber and media bullying of the trade unions and leadership, coupled with covert moves to amend the NSITF Act in a manner that would disenfranchise workers and give the government full control over the funds”.

“The NSITF must account for and return all diverted funds within seven working days from today.

“The PENCOM board must be properly constituted in full compliance with the law within seven working days from today.

“The Pension Commission must submit to the NLC a full status report of the funds within the same period.

“If at the end of these seven working days, nothing is done, the NLC will no longer guarantee industrial peace in the sector”, the NLC president warns.
