The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday officially recognized David Mark as the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The development was confirmed via an update on INEC’s portal seen by Nigerian Newssphere on Thursday.
The recognition follows a ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which set aside an earlier judgment of the Court of Appeal that had restrained the acknowledgment of Mark’s leadership of the party.
Earlier, on April 1, 2026, INEC had removed the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its official portal as National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC, respectively. The commission had also announced the suspension of recognition of all factions within the party and stated it would not monitor any conventions or congresses organized by groups linked to the affected leaders.
The latest update signals a shift in INEC’s position following the apex court’s decision, effectively restoring recognition of the party’s leadership under Mark.
