Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has dismissed reports claiming he authored his own death notice.
His clarification comes amid circulating rumors on social media and WhatsApp platforms alleging that Obasanjo had written a final memoir announcing his impending death.
The viral article read, “Listen to and read former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s latest memoirs. (This is devoid of Obasanjo’s normal day-to-day jibes; no accusations, no abuses; it’s just like a final memoir about life).”
Speaking in Abeokuta on Wednesday, the former president refuted the claim and said the publication was fake.
“For my final note in this address, I want to point your attention to the work of some never-do-well,” he said.
“They publish and circulate a fake paper credited to me, claiming that I am writing and giving notice of my death, pafuka.”
Obasanjo maintained that the report reflected the wishes of its authors and not God’s plan for him.
“That is their wish and surely not God’s wish for me. God has assured me that He has more for me to do on earth, and He has given me the wherewithal to do it,” he said.
“And those who wish otherwise are going to be dealt with by God Himself. I dey kamp as usual. God bless.”
