Biafra civil war: BRGIE counters IPOB on Sit-at-home in Southeast

0

Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, BRGIE, has countered the Indigenous People of Biafra on a date for sit-at-home in honour of slayed Biafran heroes of the 1967-1970 Civil War in Nigeria.

In a statement on Sunday by the Prime Minister of BRGIE, Simon Ekpa disclosed that sit-at-home in Biafra land commences from 29th to 31st May 2024.

Recall that IPOB declared sit-at-home for May 30, 2024.

However, BRGIE noted that sit-at-home will last for three days.

Ekpa said the sit-at-home is necessary to enable Biafrans to vote for the Libration of Biafra.

He explained that it would be worthless to honour sit-at-home without Igbos casting their votes for the Libration of Biafra.

He added that the Biafra Civil War only ended in the media, but the Nigerian government has been fighting Biafrans to date.

“There will be sit-at-home in Biafraland on the following dates to enable Biafrans to vote in the last phase of stage one self-referendum voting.

“29th May, 2024 sit at home and vote; 30th May, 2024 Biafra Day sit at home and vote; 31st May, 2024 sit at home vote.

“In addition, the Biafra Republic Government in Exile is not a political pressure group, unlike others who only agreed to sit at home on May 30. BRGIE is very proactive, and we channel all our efforts towards the Liberation of Biafra by every means necessary, so you are not just sitting at home on the 30th but using that to cast your vote.

“The civil only ended on pages of newspapers but have not ended physically, militarily, politically and structurally.

“Nigeria has been fighting Biafra from 1970 till date. So, it is not enough to observe the sit-at-home only to remember heroes while heroes continue to fall from Nigeria attacks in 2024. Since the war has not ended in reality, we will use this May remembrance to further the Liberation of Biafra by making sure Biafrans participate in the voting process. I urge Biafrans across Southeast, South-South to vote for Biafra Liberation.

“Biafra Self referendum has three stages. The last stage will end in November 2024 while the Declaration convention will start on 29th November and end on 3rd of December 2024”, he stated.

She added that the Hub has partnered with the Federal Government of Nigeria and Subnationals to develop Renewable Energy Policy documents.

“The recent electricity tariff hike has created parity between grid and renewable electricity. A friend said he spent N9,000,000 to migrate to solar energy completely. Our office building is completely solarized. There are a lot of business modules that have made solar energy affordable alternatives.

“We work with the industry, Renewable Energy Association, Mini-grid Association of Nigeria, Nigeria Alliance of Renewable Energy, and other key players to make solar energy affordable for Nigerians.

EVC NCC, Aminu Maida
The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has joined the world to mark the 2024 International Girls in ICT Day.
The Commission  emphasized the importance of increasing the participation of young women and girls in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector.
This annual event is observed on the fourth Thursday of April.
In a statement shared on its Official Facebook page, the NCC expressed solidarity with the global ICT community in wishing all girls a Happy International Girls in ICT Day.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Leadership,” highlighting the crucial role of strong female role models in STEM careers.
Despite women now occupying 40% of high-skill jobs worldwide, their representation in ICT-related fields remains disproportionately low.
Women are underrepresented in software, engineering, technology research, academia, leadership positions within the industry.
This gender gap is particularly pronounced in STEM fields, where women often face barriers to advancement and leadership roles.
To address these challenges and promote gender equality in STEM, it is essential to provide girls and young women with exposure to female leaders in the industry.
By fostering inspiration and breaking down barriers, the Girls in ICT Day 2024 theme aims to empower girls and encourage leadership development for a more inclusive future in STEM.

ICPC advocates Synergy between Armed Forces, Para-Military Agencies in Nigeria

0

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC has called for proper synergy among armed forces and para-military agencies to stem the tide of corruption in Nigeria.

The call was made by the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, Wednesday at the opening ceremony of a 3-day workshop on “21st Century Policing: Capacity Building Techniques and Brand Management for Security Image Makers” holding in Abuja.

Dr. Aliyu, who spoke through the Secretary to the Commission, Mr. Clifford Okwudiri Okparaodu, said the Commission was willing to work with other sister agencies in the security sector to prevent corruption through its system study and review, corruption risk assessment including capacity building through the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN).

In his words, “Undoubtedly, the war against corruption cannot be won in a swoop, neither can it be won by ICPC or any anti-corruption agency alone, but by series of efforts involving stakeholders like you. This is where your role as the image makers of your agencies comes to the fore.

“As public relations professionals and image makers for your organisations, you should not only report the right things about your organisation but be seen to be doing the right things. You are not expected to cover up acts of corruption in the name of projecting the image of your organisation.”

Earlier in his remarks, the Provost of ACAN, Prof. Olawale Babawale revealed that since its inception in 2014, the Academy has successfully trained over 24,000 participants, through hybrid methods, even across ECOWAS sub-region and the African Union.

He explained that given the strategic role of public relations practitioners as the image makers of their Organisations, they are expected to be the bastion of integrity and veritable partners in the war against corruption especially for the military, paramilitary, law enforcement, and registered private security organisations.

Prof. Babawale said, “The learning objectives have been formulated in such a way that participants are equipped with the knowledge and skills that would enable them to become viable partners in the anti-corruption war, while also carrying out their duties effectively, using contemporary strategies. This way, we believe that the foundation for a long-term sustainable assault on corruption is laid”.

Participants were drawn from the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigerian Army, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and Information officers from the Ministry of Interior.
