BREAKING: Pantami withdraws from APC Governorship Primaries

0

Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress, or APC, governorship primaries in Gombe State.

Pantami announced his decision on Tuesday in a statement issued by Barrister Ibrahim M. Attahir on behalf of the Pantamiyya Movement.

According to the statement, the former minister cited alleged violations of the Electoral Act of 2026 as the reason for stepping down from the race.

He also accused the APC leadership in Gombe State of failing to provide the necessary information required to ensure a transparent and credible primary election process.

The statement further revealed that letters sent by Pantami’s solicitors to party officials over concerns surrounding the conduct of the exercise were neither acknowledged nor responded to.

“In a democracy, the law must guide the process. Non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2026 and the party guidelines renders the exercise unsafe and illegitimate,” the statement read.

BREAKING: Southampton expelled from Championship Playoff Final, announces Middlesbrough as replacement

0

Southampton FC has been expelled from Saturday’s Championship play-off final after being found guilty of spying on a training session held by Middlesbrough FC ahead of their semi-final clash.

The Saints had originally been scheduled to face Hull City AFC for a place in next season’s Premier League. However, following the disciplinary ruling, Middlesbrough will now take Southampton’s place in the Wembley final against Hull.

The winner of Saturday’s encounter will secure promotion to the Premier League for the 2026-27 season.

In addition to their expulsion from the playoffs, Southampton have also been handed a four-point deduction for the upcoming Championship campaign.

An official statement from the English Football League said discussions are ongoing with the three clubs involved regarding the implications of the ruling.

“The EFL is now in discussion with all three clubs regarding the implications of today’s decision and will make a further announcement in due course. The commission’s full written reasons will also be published in due course,” the statement said.

They told Tinubu that my Borno attire was charmed to kill him—Shettima

0

Vice President Kashim Shettima has disclosed that some individuals from Borno State allegedly warned President Bola Tinubu against wearing traditional outfits he gifted him during the 2023 presidential campaign, claiming the clothes were spiritually manipulated and could lead to his death.

Shettima made the revelation on Tuesday during the public presentation of former Head of State Yakubu Gowon’s autobiography, My Life of Duty and Allegiance, held in Abuja.

According to the vice president, the incident occurred shortly after the inauguration of the Tinubu administration in 2023.

He explained that he had traveled to Beijing, China, in October 2023 to represent Tinubu at the 3rd Belt and Road Initiative Forum held between October 16 and 18.

Speaking at the event, Shettima recalled that upon his return from China, Tinubu informed him that some visitors had advised him to stop wearing the traditional Borno garments supplied by the vice president during the campaign period.

“When I returned from China, where I represented him at the Belt and Road Initiative Conference, he said, ‘Sit down. Your people came to me and said I should stop wearing those dresses you gave me. They claimed I had been charmed and that I was going to die so he could become president,’” Shettima recounted.

He said Tinubu dismissed the claims, insisting the allegation was illogical because both of them were merely presidential aspirants at the time the clothes were given.

According to Shettima, Tinubu responded, “Their story did not add up because when you gave me those dresses, I was an aspirant. I was not even the candidate, and neither were you the vice-presidential candidate.”

The vice president added that Tinubu deliberately continued wearing the outfits for a week to prove he was not influenced by superstition.

“For one week, to prove to them that he is not a fetish, he wore those dresses,” Shettima said.

He noted that the episode highlighted what he described as increasing suspicion within Nigeria’s political environment.

Shettima contrasted the situation with an earlier account by the Sultan of Sokoto, who recalled how Gowon regularly received gallons of fura from the Sultan’s family in Sokoto while serving as Head of State at Dodan Barracks in Lagos without suspicion.

“Suspicion smears our relationships, and it ought not to be. We are essentially one people tied to a common destiny,” Shettima stated.

BREAKING: 2027: PDP Clears Jonathan for Presidential Primary

0

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday cleared former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to participate in the party’s presidential primary after granting him a waiver.

The PDP screening committee, which sat in Akwa Ibom State and was chaired by Chief Eddy Olafeso, confirmed the development.

According to Olafeso, the party had officially approved Jonathan’s participation in the race.

“The party has already granted our presidential aspirant a waiver and cleared him as a candidate for the PDP presidential election, and that is former President Jonathan,” he said.

Nigerian Newssphere recalls that a faction of the PDP backed by Seyi Makinde had earlier announced that Jonathan would undergo screening as the party’s presidential aspirant on Tuesday.

Before the screening exercise, Jonathan, who was expected to submit his nomination form on Monday, reportedly did not

BREAKING: EFCC finally arrests ex-power minister Mamman after 75-year jail sentence for N33.8 fraud

0

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, who was recently convicted and sentenced by the Federal High Court, Abuja, for financial misappropriation while he served in that position.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede confirmed he was arrested at 3:30 am on Tuesday.

He was arrested in Kaduna, along with two others who were protecting him. The house where he was arrested is currently being investigated.

He served as minister of power from August 2019 to September 2021.

He was sworn in by President Muhammadu Buhari on 21 August 2019 after being nominated by Buhari and confirmed by the Senate.

On 1 September 2021, Mamman was sacked by Buhari and replaced by Minister of State for Works and Housing Abubakar Aliyu.

In May 2026, Saleh was convicted and sentenced to 75 years’ imprisonment for fraud and money laundering involving over N33.8 billion naira ($24.7 million) by the Federal High Court of Nigeria.

Court orders Globus Bank to Pay Abuja Firm N256m

0

An FCT High Court has ordered Globus Bank to pay a total of N256 million to Abuja-based Haril Global Solutions Ltd over breach of contract and wrongful deductions from the company’s accounts.

Justice Christopher Oba of the Federal Capital Territory High Court delivered the judgment in suit number FCT/HC/CV/1456/2026, filed by Haril Global Solutions Ltd against the bank.

The claimant had accused the bank of breaching a contractual agreement tied to an overdraft facility and making unlawful deductions running into millions of naira from its accounts.

In the suit, Haril Global Solutions Ltd was listed as claimant, while Globus Bank was the defendant and counter-claimant. Other parties named in the counter-claim included Chinedu Mba, Idris Olayiwola, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Justice Oba held that there was a valid and subsisting contract between both parties based on the letter of offer dated July 4, 2023, and the overdraft facility agreement executed on the same date.

The court declared that the bank wrongfully withdrew N109 million from the claimant’s debt service reserve account and transferred the funds into its overdraft account on December 29, 2023, contrary to the terms of the agreement.

The judge subsequently ordered the bank to refund the N109 million to the claimant.

The court also directed the bank to return N26.07 million deducted as interest from the claimant’s account on January 31, 2024, despite a post-no-debit restriction placed on the account, which allegedly prevented the company from conducting business operations.

In addition, the court ordered the refund of another N15 million withdrawn on February 6, 2024, as interest charges under similar circumstances.

Justice Oba further awarded N5 million as general damages for breach of contract and N1 million as cost of the suit against the bank.

The court held that the defendant breached the accepted overdraft facility agreement and declared that the contract had been discharged due to the bank’s actions.

Meanwhile, the court dismissed the counterclaim filed by Globus Bank, ruling that the bank failed to provide credible evidence to support allegations of fraud and unlawful interference against Haril Global Solutions Ltd.

The bank had alleged that the claimant manipulated its system by debiting other merchants to credit its own account.

However, the court ruled that no evidence was presented to identify any affected merchants or establish the alleged fraud.

Justice Oba also noted that a police investigation report tendered by the bank did not indict the claimant and contained figures inconsistent with the N2.5 billion sought in the counterclaim.

According to the court, the police report was merely investigative and not a judicial pronouncement capable of proving fraud.

The judge concluded that the bank failed to discharge the legal and evidential burden required by law and dismissed the counter-claim in its entirety for lacking

EPL: Arsenal to be confirmed champions after Bournemouth vs Man City clash

0

Arsenal moved to the verge of winning the Premier League title after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Burnley on Tuesday night.

A first-half header from Kai Havertz proved decisive as Mikel Arteta’s side claimed all three points in a tense encounter.

The win leaves Arsenal five points ahead of Manchester City with only an away fixture against Crystal Palace remaining this season.

Arsenal could officially be crowned Premier League champions as early as Wednesday night if Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City fail to defeat Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

Bournemouth are still battling for a European qualification spot, making the clash crucial for both sides.

Arteta’s men have now spent 556 nights at the top of the Premier League table since the start of the 2022-23 campaign — more than 200 nights ahead of any other club during that period, with Liverpool next on 355.

ADC presidential ticket: I’ll defeat you- Amaechi dares Atiku to primaries

0

Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has challenged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to face him in the presidential primaries of the African Democratic Congress, insisting that zoning should not determine the party’s candidate.

Amaechi made the remarks on Monday during an interview on Trust TV while speaking about his readiness for the party’s primary election.

The former Rivers State governor said Atiku had publicly stated that he does not support zoning, adding that the best option would be for all aspirants to test their popularity at the primaries.

“Atiku said he does not like zoning, so let’s go to the primaries,” Amaechi stated.

He also expressed hope that the former vice president would, for the first time, lose a primary election.

“I heard him say he has never failed in a primary before. I hope this will be the first time he fails the primaries,” he added.

Amaechi, however, argued that winning party primaries had not translated into electoral victory for Atiku in past presidential contests.

“That is not even the issue. The issue is that each time he won the primaries, he did not win the main election,” he said.

The ADC chieftain further urged politicians to avoid divisive regional politics, stressing that leadership should be driven by national interest rather than North-South considerations.

According to him, he has consistently rejected ethnic-based politics and would rather emulate former President Olusegun Obasanjo, whom he described as a nationalist.

“You may like him or not, but Obasanjo was a Nigerian president, not a Yoruba president,” Amaechi said.

Reacting to a question on the possibility of another aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, stepping down for Atiku, Amaechi simply wished

Debt: Nigerian Newborn already starts life owing N691,000—ActionAid

0

Non-governmental organization ActionAid Nigeria has expressed concern over Nigeria’s growing debt profile, stating that every child born in the country now begins life with an estimated debt burden of N691,000.

The country director of the organization, Andrew Mamedu, made the remark on Monday during an interview on Arise Television while discussing the nation’s rising debt despite the removal of the fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira.

According to him, borrowing itself is not a problem if it is done responsibly and tied to productive ventures.

“With Nigeria’s rising debt now, it means that a newborn baby already starts life owing about N691,000,” he said.

Mamedu noted that many countries across the world, including China and the United States, also rely on borrowing, sometimes beyond their annual budgets, but stressed that accountability and proper planning are essential.

He explained that borrowing should not be channelled towards consumption but should instead be tied to productive capital projects capable of generating returns and repaying the debt.

He further emphasized the need for transparency in the use of borrowed funds, adding that government borrowing should align with fiscal responsibility principles and follow a clearly defined fiscal plan.
