I didn’t make mistake- Trump speaks after video depicting Barack, Michelle Obama as apes
United States President Donald Trump has dismissed criticism over a video he briefly shared on his official Truth Social account that depicted former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as apes.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force On Friday, Trump insisted he had done nothing wrong and said there was no need for an apology.
“I didn’t make a mistake,” the president said.
DHe explained that he had not watched the entire clip before it was shared. “I didn’t see the whole thing. I looked at the first part, and it was really about voter fraud in the machines, how crooked it is, and how disgusting it is. Then I gave it to the people,” Trump added.
When asked whether he condemned the content of the video, Trump replied, “Of course I do.”
The video, which was posted late Thursday, pushed a conspiracy theory about voting machines used in the 2020 U.S. presidential election and included a racist portrayal of the Obamas. It remained on Trump’s Truth Social account for about 12 hours before it was taken down on Friday morning following widespread condemnation from across the political spectrum and calls for its removal.
Earlier on Friday, Nigerian Newssphere reports that the White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the post in an emailed statement to reporters, describing it as “from an internet meme video depicting President Trump as the King of the Jungle and Democrats as characters from The Lion King.”
She added, “Please stop the fake outrage and report on something today that actually matters to the American public.”
The video was eventually deleted from Trump’s account several hours after the statement was issued.
