The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the declaration in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the public holidays underscore the Federal Government’s respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Muslims in Nigeria joining the global Islamic community to observe the sacred festival.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful in Nigeria and across the diaspora, describing Eid-ul-Adha as a celebration that reflects the values of sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for humanity.
He urged Nigerians to use the festive period to pray and reflect on the nation’s progress, while seeking divine guidance for sustained peace, security, and prosperity.
“It is in the spirit of brotherhood, shared humanity, and national unity that the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, blessed and joyous celebration,” the statement added.
