The naira extended its gains against the US dollar on Friday, appreciating at both the official and parallel foreign exchange markets to end the week on a positive note.
Figures released by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, showed that the local currency strengthened to N1,362.09 per dollar on Friday from N1,367.76 recorded on Thursday.
The latest movement represents a N5.67 appreciation for the naira against the dollar on a day-to-day basis at the official market.
The parallel market also recorded a stronger naira, with the exchange rate improving by N10 to N1,410 per dollar on Friday from N1,420 the previous day, according to a Bureau de Change operator in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja.
On a week-on-week basis, the naira appreciated by N18.19 at the official foreign exchange market and N15 at the parallel market, reflecting sustained gains across both segments.
The continued appreciation of the Nigerian currency comes amid a steady rise in the country’s external reserves, which stood at $52.02 billion as of July 23, 2026, according to CBN data.
