President Bola Tinubu is preparing to nominate former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, as the new Minister of Defence following the resignation of Badaru Abubakar on Monday.
Abubakar, 63, stepped down citing health concerns, a development that came just as President Tinubu declared a national security emergency.
According to a statement from the Presidency, Tinubu is expected to formally notify the Senate of his preferred replacement later this week.
Daily Nigerian reports that the president has already finalized plans to appoint Musa, amid growing internal pressure to bring an ex-military officer back into his cabinet.
General Musa had earlier visited President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Monday — his first public meeting with the president since his retirement on October 24, 2025.
