Tension in North as US resumes surveillance in Sambisa forest after Sokoto ISIS strikes

The United States has reportedly resumed intelligence and surveillance operations in northern Nigeria, particularly Sambisa forest, targeting terrorists.

A terrorism tracker focused on the Sahel region, Brant Philip made this known while sharing flight-tracking data which indicated US military aircraft operating over Borno State.

According to reports, the aircraft was a Gulfstream V, a long-range business jet commonly used for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, ISR missions.

In an X post on Saturday, the terrorism tracker said the operations were focused on the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP.

ISWAP is reportedly the Nigerian affiliate of ISIS, camping mainly in the North-East and the Lake Chad basin.

“The United States resumed ISR operations today on ISWAP in the Sambisa forest, Borno state in northeast Nigeria, after a pause of one day following the strikes in Sokoto state,” he wrote on X.
