Scores died and others were injured as an explosion struck travelers on Yar’Tasha-Dansadau Way in Maru Local Government in Zamfara State.
The incident led residents to run for safety.
A security journalist, known as Bakatsine, made this known on X on Saturday.
According to him, the blast is suspected to be an improvised explosive device planted by terrorist bandits.
“A moment ago, an explosion struck travelers on the Yar’Tasha–Dansadau way in Maru LGA, Zamfara State. The blast, suspected to be an IED planted by bandits, caused deaths and loss of property; casualties remain unconfirmed.
“Are security agencies investigating, and what measures are being taken to secure this route?” he wrote on X.
When Nigerian Newssphere called Suleiman Bala, the spokesperson of Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, he did not pick up his calls or reply to texts as of the filing of the report. However, the Nigeria Police Command in the State confirmed the incident.
“I can confirm that there was a blast in that area but the incident just happened. I can’t tell you details yet. I will update you later,” he said in a telephone interview”, Police Spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar said.
This comes days after an explosion hit the Offa area of Kwara State, Nigeria.
